I've been researching breast reconstruction options for over a year now.. I initially chose implants and expanders were put in place immediately after my real breast were removed. The BRAVA procedure is still considered new yet effective..
Would anyone be interested in watching a video of my journey with this procedure? Step by step, appointment after appointment? I wish I had a video to watch of an actual person going through this specific procedure so I knew what to expect..
The BRAVA procedure is what I'll be doing so, let me know if anyone's interested in watching the procedure on me and I'll figure out a way to keep everyone posted.
Also, Feel free to ask me any question's on the procedure, I've became very knowledgeable on this topic.

Yes! I would love to! I never heard of BRAVA until I saw it mentioned on this site last week. Thank you for the brilliant idea to share your journey. What is a good site for me to learn about BRAVA?

Sounds great Jennifer! And yes, this is a fantastic site on real people going through hundreds of different procedures. It's a little better than just hearing doctors explain procedures. Once I learned of the procedure I started doing research and came across this site as well.

***removed 3rd party link*** the above link is the BRAVA website. Check it out. The link below is the Doctor who invented the BRAVA procedure. Watch the video on the link below ***removed 3rd party link***

Thank you for sharing! I do have implants...and have already gone through expansion process. But I am very intrigued for new patients. I will mention this to my plastic surgeon when I see him. I also have a lot of restriction from radiation, and i'm thinking this might be a way to 'stretch' out my radiated side. I am going to contact Dr. Khouri and ask him what he thinks. Bless you for being so brave! you go girl!

Thank you! You've done the BRAVA procedure? With fat injections? If so, Could I ask you a few questions??
November 24, 2014
Yes, I used Brava domes off and on for a year. Sure, ask away. My surgeon is Dr Khouri at the Miami Breast Center

You're awesome thank you! 1. When you're expanders were removed did the surgeon do a fat graft immediately following? 2. how much fat was removed during you're time period of reconstruction? Sizes in pants change? any idea how much fat was removed? 3. Would you be comfortable showing before and after pictures? I'm so curious to see a final result with a radiated breast. ( like mine) Thank you!Thank you!

I was (and still am) overweight at 5'8 and 213 at the time of my mastectomy and was a very saggy C/D. I had almost 3 pounds of breast tissue removed by the mastectomy. I have just finished my 4th grafting session and have had about 800 ml total placed on each side. Roughly 200 cc each side each time. Almost all of it has stayed on the left but I had a seroma form once on the right and a hematoma this last time so I am probably about 150 cc smaller on the right. The scar on my right side was much tighter and hard to release as well. Dr. Khouri likes to use fat from areas where you do not lose it easily because it seems to have more staying power after transfer. I was wearing size 16 (snug) or 18 JC Penny's Worthington Curvy Fit pants and now wear the same style but 14's keep sliding down on me and 12's are still too tight. To be fair my weight is also down to 190 so that it is not just because of the lipo. The lipo won't give you results like weight loss will, but it definitely helps with contouring. Previously my shape was honestly more like a box than curvy whereas now I definitely have an hourglass shape emerging. I have sent you a private message with how to view my photos. Although I did not have radiation several friends of mine did and you can view their results as well.

Hello again and hoping you had a lovel Thanksgiving! So... I went on the site you told me about and found it someone difficult to navigate around it. I found you, but I'm restricted from seeing a lot of your information.I went through the 3 steps but still found it difficult to see you info/pictures. I guess I'm not really a fan of the website for now.. I've gotten frustrated the last 2 times I've logged in and messed round on the site. I like to think I'm pretty internet savvy! lol

You might want to give that site a try again. The host was ill and far behind in adding new members and photos, has recently done an update which makes it a little easier to use ( but still not great in my opinion). I you persevere you will find a wealth of info there.

i am 58 years old,and had a bilateral masterctomy, I only had cancer in one breast, but I told my surgeon to take them both, as I never wanted to go thru this again.i do not regret my decision. I finished chemo a month and a half ago, and with all thats been done to my body in the last 9 months, I am still "on the fence" about having reconstruction, at the moment, I am wearing the silicone prosthetics, which I look good in (dressed), but still am shocked when I happen to catch a glimse of my body as I walk by the bathroom mirror. I would very much be interested in seeing your video of your journey, as I have just kept my journey in writing in a big book. Thank you for your bravery, you are an inspiration. Good luck and God bless,,, Tina in Maine

Yes I'm interested. I have had two surgeries and they are still not right. I don't know what to do anymore or where to go!

Change of Direction....

Latissimus Dorsi Flap what the direction I had to go.
After many consults with many doctors.... I didn't have two years to offer my reconstruction process.
Which is what I had to do if I wanted to do the BRAVA Procedure.
Here were my last thoughts before making my decision.

1. I fight Insurance for the next two years after they start denying my fat graft sessions and getting to a possible B cup and being at about 70% of needing an implant after all the grafting....
2. I get the implant now, and then do a few fat grafting sessions after the implant. Save 2 years of stress and finally get some breast.
(They'll usually approve 3 sessions and then the war on Insurance .vs. Patient begins.

I went with option 2. I had my Latissimus Dorsi flap and implants put in January 6th.
I'm still recovering but feeling alright overall.
It does however, feel GREAT to have my expanders out. I actually slept on my side a few times at night. Implants are so much lighter than expanders.

I meet with my MD again next week and will be talking about the fat grafting procedures and timeline.

Glad you are doing well! I went with TE's to implants, but was told radiation means I may have to go to a lat flap down the line for my radiated side. Hoping recovery continues to go well for you. Be healthy & thanks for sharing!
