I was given all the proper materials to read through to make a sound decision. I also asked several questions that were answered fully. My experience the day of the surgery was very comforting. All that worked with me were very professional and thoughtful. Very caring. Dr. Shehadi came in an explained all that was going to happen and what I could expect after the surgery and for the few days to follow before the follow up appointment.
I was extremely pleased with my reconstructive surgery by Dr. Ramzi Shehadi at Dean West in Madison, WI. I had the Mohs surgery done the day before at UW Hospital and Clinics to remove skin cancer on my nose. The Mohs surgery left a nickel size hole on my nostril at the end of my nose. I was very concerned with how the repair was going to look to maintain the proper shape of my nostril and nose because of the Mohs defect. I was originally scheduled to have the repair done at different hospital, however I decided to get a second opinion because I was concerned about their approach that included a forehead flap, ear cartilage and two surgeries. I went to Dr. Ramzi Shehadi and he was able to use a more advance technique that did NOT require a forehead flap, ear cartilage and two surgeries. Dr. Shehadi did a terrific job of repairing the Mohs defect utilizing flaps from the surrounding skin. My stitches were out in one week and my nose is looking terrific. Dr. Shehadi and his entire staff were tremendous to work with. Updated on 20 Feb 2015:
I've been researching breast reconstruction options for over a year now.. I initially chose implants and expanders were put in place immediately after my real breast were removed. The BRAVA procedure is still considered new yet effective.. Would anyone be interested in watching a video of my journey with this procedure? Step by step, appointment after appointment? I wish I had a video to watch of an actual person going through this specific procedure so I knew what to expect.. The BRAVA procedure is what I'll be doing so, let me know if anyone's interested in watching the procedure on me and I'll figure out a way to keep everyone posted. Also, Feel free to ask me any question's on the procedure, I've became very knowledgeable on this topic. Updated on 23 Jan 2015: Latissimus Dorsi Flap what the direction I had to go. After many consults with many doctors.... I didn't have two years to offer my reconstruction process. Which is what I had to do if I wanted to do the BRAVA Procedure. Here were my last thoughts before making my decision. 1. I fight Insurance for the next two years after they start denying my fat graft sessions and getting to a possible B cup and being at about 70% of needing an implant after all the grafting.... 2. I get the implant now, and then do a few fat grafting sessions after the implant. Save 2 years of stress and finally get some breast. (They'll usually approve 3 sessions and then the war on Insurance .vs. Patient begins. I went with option 2. I had my Latissimus Dorsi flap and implants put in January 6th. I'm still recovering but feeling alright overall. It does however, feel GREAT to have my expanders out. I actually slept on my side a few times at night. Implants are so much lighter than expanders. I meet with my MD again next week and will be talking about the fat grafting procedures and timeline.
You should not expect to look like Aliaa but your nose can be made thinner and more fine. you should see a Dr that can show you what can be done, what the limitations of the surgery are and define your expectations between what is realistic and what is not.
My advise is to be patient and wait at least 6 months after your Rhinoplasty before you decide what you need. You might find out that you are totally satisfied and need nothing. The nose tip and base stay swollen the longest.
