If I Could Give 0 Stars, I Would.
Let me start by saying that I'm a breast cancer survivor. In the past 3 1/2 years I've had 7 reconstructive surgeries, with 3 different cosmetic surgeons, and I have to say, the experience I had with Dr. Cox is by far the worst I've ever had. If I could give zero stars, I absolutely would. Three of my reconstructive surgeries (prior to Dr. Cox) included fat transfers from my legs to my breasts which left some "ruts" in my legs. I went to Dr. Cox in the summer of 2018 to see about having them fixed. He told me that the best thing to do was to treat it as a purely cosmetic procedure (instead of a medical revision covered by insurance) and pay out-of-pocket to get my legs "fixed" correctly. I took his advice and scheduled surgery. The morning of the surgery, as he was marking me up and showing me what my legs would probably look like after surgery, I noticed that my upper hip area would have then looked out of proportion with my legs, so I asked if I could have him do my hips as well to keep everything in proportion. He said sure, so I wrote another check right then and there for another $700 to add my hips to the procedure. After the procedure, everything was swollen for several weeks, but I could tell that my hips still looked the same as before the surgery. At my follow-up appointment I asked Dr. Cox about this, and he said that he thought I wanted my back done, so that's what he did. I reminded him about our conversation the morning of the surgery and told him I'd been concerned about my hips, not my back. He reassured me and said that if I wasn't happy with my hips, he would take care of them during my next surgery (another breast reconstruction revision) which was scheduled for December of 2018. I felt much better knowing that he would take care of my hips during my next surgery. Well the breast revision surgery was scheduled to take place on December 26th, 2018, so during my pre-op appointment I once again asked Dr. Cox about fixing my hips, however he said that since my breast surgery was going to be covered by insurance, he couldn't combine a cosmetic procedure with a medical procedure. When I expressed my dissappointment in his not being able to fix my hips as promised, he then suggested a "plan" that he said he'd be willing to do for me. His plan was to (in the middle of my breast surgery) turn and ask the OR nurse to get a large syringe so that he could remove some fat from my hips to put into my breasts. He said that if he did it that way, insurance would cover it. I thought about his "offer" for a couple of hours after I got home, and decided that was not the way I wanted to go about having my hips fixed. Not only did it sound unethical, but it also didn't sound like the best way to lipo my hip area. I sent him a text that afternoon telling him that I did not want to have that done during my procedure and that I'd wait for him to do my hips during a future cosmetic procedure, if I ever had another one. Well let me tell you.... the care I received from Dr. Cox after the December surgery was so bad that I've since decided I'll not be having any more surgeries with him. Dr. Cox cancelled 3 of my follow-up appointments in a row and then was a no-show at the 4th appointment that I'd scheduled. He never even saw me for a follow-up to my December surgery. Not once. Additionally, he didn't return phone calls. As he now practices in both Houston AND Dallas weekly, he's rarely in Houston to do follow-ups and doesn't even have his own office any more. Instead, he sees his patients in a room at a "Low T" office. After the poor after-care I received from Dr. Cox, I decided that I didn't want to have any more surgeries with him, and I requested a refund of the $700 I paid for him to do my hips. He refused. I've sent two certified letters requesting a refund, but I've yet to hear a word. Because of this experience, I decided that I would post what my legs and hips look like after I paid $7000 to get then "fixed" by Dr. Cox.
