Only Dr. Hamwi
I rarely write reviews… I mean rarely. I am only writing this review because of the professionalism as well as the caring and kind heart Dr. Hamwi and his nurse Chelsea. This review is long so I will start with, My arms look BEAUTIFUL! Thank you Dr. Hamwi! I highly recommend Only Dr. Hamwi at Artistic Lipo. If you want to know more of my experience, keep reading.
I had been so down and depressed because of the size of my arms. They were abnormal. There was what is described as Lipedema, where my shirt size would have to be 2-3XL but in tank tops M-L. I haven’t gone sleeveless in nearly 30 years. I was a cheerleader in High School and College, a professional Polynesian dancer and Salsa dancer. I have been thick and thin… My arms, have just been thick even when the rest of me was thin. When I danced, every costume or uniform had to have some sort of sleeve. My wedding dress Had to have sleeves. I didn’t want anyone to see my arms, not even my husband who loves all my imperfections. When he would touch my arms, to me I would see his hands so sprawled out, that it looked to me that it was like holding a football. I Never wore sweaters. I couldn’t wear certain types of shirts because of my arms… I would just feel so Round and abnormal… even Deformed.
So I wanted to research again for the 50th time over the years about liposuction and came across videos of Dr. Su and Dr. Gruber doing what they call Celebrity Arms. I watched Every video they have and have seen Every picture. I then showed my husband and he watched most of the videos and some of the before and after’s. What attracted me to Artistic Lipo was that they do the circumference of the arm. Regular lipo only does the bottom. At Artistic Lipo, they help create shape to your arm and take out up 80% of the fat.
I live in another state so I called to get an online assessment. The Price is VERY HIGH in my opinion if I went with Dr. Su or Dr. Gruber. Dr. Hamwi was the newest member of the team at that time, even though he had been there a year and a half. Choosing Dr, Hamwi and the allowance of photos, allowed for a few discounts which was helpful since my husband and I had to fly in from across the country.
The process. So I sent in pictures according to their requirements. Dr. Gruber and Hamwi drew on them to show what my arms may look like after surgery and emailed them back to me. Seeing that alone made me cry. My husband saw how much I needed this for myself and just how sad my arms made me and how I hated seeing myself in the mirror. It was NOT CHEAP… But my husband made it happen. We had to use Care Credit. I’m glad that was an option. There were loads of paperwork to read through and sign. Did that, and we were a go.
Dr. Hamwi called to speak with me a few times before we flew out there and went over any and all concerns with me. He has been nothing but kind and concerned through the entire process.
We flew in on a Thursday and arrived in the evening. My surgery was on a Friday morning, follow up was Sat morning and we flew home Sunday (which I do not recommend doing).
When we arrived, the staff in the front office were kind. Next we met Chelsea, Dr, Hamwi’s nurse who was also very kind. Finally, we met Dr. Hamwi. What I love about Dr. Hamwi is that when he first met me, he didn’t make me feel like I was fat and disgusting and needed A LOT of work done. He made me feel hopeful and like all I needed was a little tweak and everything was going to be just fine.
The surgery. (Sigh) It wasn’t bad… but it certainly wasn’t fun. It didn’t hurt, it was just awkward feeling and uncomfortable at times. I am sensitive to meds which made me a bit sick. I ended up throwing up afterwards and feeling dizzy. The staff took care of me until I felt able to walk out and go to the hotel and rest.
During the surgery I was able to sit up and see the difference immediately. After surgery, when I looked into the mirror, I couldn’t believe that my arms were My Arms. I also had my buffalo hump reduced… it was Super flat after surgery… it’s not as flat as it was, after everything settled, but still a huge difference and I can now wear my hair up without feeling like the hunch back or Norte Dame… I wasn’t That bad, but it was enough for me to always hide it. Dr. Hamwi also allowed some extra fat from my back to get into the suction path… for that I am grateful… I wish I would have been able to get my back fat completely taken out but it’s ok… I can work on that with weight loss. It is better than it was that’s for sure.
Also, after surgery Dr. Gruber decided to do an “innovative” technique, folding and taping the extra skin on my arms which was a last minute decision. That didn’t workout so well at all.
After Surgery. Dr. Hamwi met me the next morning for a checkup. He was kind and caring and made sure I had everything I needed for success.
After arriving home and taking off the tape from my arms… well, let’s say I was back to being depressed because the folds made my arms look like I was in a horrible accident. I sent in pictures… Dr. Hamwi was with me all the way. He didn’t avoid me… he never left my side so to speak. He offered to give me a brachioplasty to remedy the problem. I was so nervous because I didn’t want another surgery because I don’t like to be put under And, we had to fly across country, which was Very expensive… especially since we are still paying on the first surgery and travel.
So, around 6-7 months after the first surgery, we went out for the second. During the 6-7 months, Dr. Hamwi was just incredible when it came to checking in on me, answering my calls and was genuinely concerned. We stayed 2 extra days this time because traveling after a fresh surgery was horrible the last time. In order to finagle the cost, we flew into Orlando and drove to Tampa, stayed they night so we could be close to next day check up and then went back to Orlando.
The Brachioplasty. I met with Dr. Hamwi the day before surgery. He and Chelsea welcomed us with such kindness, as if we were all friends. He and Chelsea made sure all my questions and concerns were answered. Dr. Hamwi marked the areas that he needed to the day before, gave instructions and met me early the next day. He made sure I had the correct meds and was comfortable with everything. I had to have this surgery at a surgery center. He didn’t hide away until surgery like many Dr.’s do. He made sure I knew he was there with me… That was indeed special to us and made me feel less nervous. Everyone there was kind as well. He along with a nurse wheeled me into the operation room… He was telling me a story about one of his surgeries but I am sure I fell asleep before he could finish because I had been given anesthesia.
I believe the first person I saw when I woke up was my husband who gave me a quick comforting kiss… funny enough, I was so sleepy that I was reaching out to hold anyone’s hand that would hold mine apparently and puckering my lips for a kiss… Thankfully my husband was there. Thankfully, my nurse was too busy to notice, though she never refused to hold my hand even if for a couple seconds before walking away. I hope she was the only only stranger I was trying to hold hands and kiss (oh my goodness!) :D. I had no clue who anyone was male or female… my eyes where closed and they were trying to wake me… I think I thought I was reaching for my hubby. I would have never known if my husband didn’t tell me.
The next day was check up day and Dr. Hamwi gave me everything I needed to get started to heal and reduce scaring. Chelsea was there to help.
I have had dealings with all three doctors at Artistic Lipo. Let me just say, if I lived closer and could afford other procedures, I would only go back there as long as Dr. Hamwi was there. I’ve never met a Dr. who was as caring, comforting and considerate, and without arrogance as Dr. Hamwi. You don’t come across genuine people let alone doctors who are like he is hardly at all if ever. Plus, he did a great job on my arms. He strategically placed my incisions in the perfect spot. You would have to look close to notice them. They are fading away nicely as well. I am able to wear sweaters and tank tops now! I can hardly believe it!
