1 Month Post Op

It’s been awhile. Had my follow up with Dr. Frank on day 5. He removed my foams. For the next week or so I was extremely uncomfortable. The zippers on the sides of my faja really irritated me and dug into the more sore part of my body. I ended up developing hard nots on both sides right under the zippers. I ordered a new faja (highly recommend Marina) and some new foams. Those helped a lot. I am still somewhat sore one month out, mostly when I’m laying down trying to roll over in bed. Throughout the day I feel mostly fine.

Ongoing care has been lymphatic massage once or twice a week staring at two weeks out. I do nightly massages on myself. Dr. Frank says I only have to wear the faja for a month, but I think I’m going to order a stage 2 faja just to be on the safe side. I low how my back side is looking. Dr. Frank told me I would likely have some skin cobbling on the front, but I feel like I’m looking a little lumpy. Hopefully that continues to settle down. I took the weekend off from the faja, so I may be some swollen in my 1 month photos.

Shop Around

I debated between a tummy tuck and lipo 360 for quite some time. One of the things I didn’t like was the distinct line of fat across my lower abdomen. A tummy tuck scar would leave me with another line. I also am typically not a fan of how belly buttons look after a tummy tuck. I like a more natural look for me. I poured over the work of various physicians and found that I consistently liked Dr. Frank’s liposuction results. I scheduled a consult with Dr. Frank and drove four hours to meet him. I know there are good doctors closer to me, but I liked his work. Dr. Frank’s office is pleasant, but it is not a fancy spa. (I don’t want to pay for my doctor’s new laser or posh interior designer.) The office staff are very kind and responsive, especially Lisa at the front desk.

Dr. Frank was so warm and real with me. I asked him about lipo to my chin. He said nope. It would not be good for me. I sincerely appreciate that. I also asked about my arms. He said maybe just try to tone them up for a better outcome. He did say that I was a good candidate for liposuction to my abdomen, flanks and back. He said that the skin on my stomach is somewhat cobbled and lipo would not fix that. He also said he probably would not be able to completely remove the fat fold on my back. I’m all about having realistic expectations, so this really helped to build trust in him. I decided to book surgery with him for October 6th.

I wish I could have done the pre-op appointment virtually. It took 8 hours driving round trip, and the only thing that I had to be physically be there for was pictures. They gave me post op instructions, took my payment, and I was out the door.

I arrived at the surgery center at 8am and signed consent forms and paid the surgery center. After 15 minutes or so I was taken back. I answered lots of questions and was given aftercare instructions again and changed into a gown and compression tights. I met with the nurses and anesthesiologist. When Dr. Frank came in he asked if everyone was nice to me (they were) and drew me up.

They wheeled me back and it was lights out for me. When I woke up I was informed that I was fighting off the nurses and had to be held down. If I had strange bruises it was from that. I was wearing a compression garment that stopped just above my knees and compression hose that covered part of the garment.

The ride home was fine. I only had pain in my left hip area. It persisted even after pain meds. I put a shower curtain in the couch and covered it with a waterproof blanket. I leaked fluid off and on all night. I was not a fan of that at all. I was instructed not to take the compression garment off until I see Dr. Frank again, so knowing that dried fluid is still on my skin and garment is grossing me out. I’m hydrating a lot to reduce bloating which causes me to make frequent trips to the bathroom. That’s not a bad thing as I was encouraged to get up and move around.

Day 2
Friday I was sore. Friday night I was REALLY sore. Getting up from a seated position caused the most pain. Rolling over in bed was super sore.

Day 3
I was told by the nurse that day 3 would likely be the hardest, but I’m happy to report that Saturday was better than Friday. I rested all day, hydrated and tried to eat healthy foods. I took pain medication before bed at 8 pm and slept soundly.

Day 4
I haven’t had pain meds since day 3. I’m still sore, but I’m moving around much better than before. Once I’m up I do not really hurt. I’m resting, hydrating and eating well. I would really love a shower. I go to see Dr. Frank for a follow up appointment tomorrow. I’m not looking forward to being in the car all day, but I am excited to get a first peek at my results.
