The Super Cuts of Plastic Surgery

CG Cosmetics

Overview

I wanted to write a full summary of my experience, not only with CG cosmetics but also the surgery and recovery itself. If you don’t have the time then my bullet points would be:

- CG cosmetics is the Super Cuts of cosmetic surgery. They do the job well enough but the service level is basic and limited
- My surgery was performed professionally and well. I have no issues with my results so far
- Dr Loessin is competent and did a great job. I didn’t find him particularly friendly or have the best bedside manner but this is just his way and not an indicator of his experience or results
- They do try get money from you at every stage of the process
- Prepare yourself for a language barrier if you don’t speak Spanish
- They forget that they do this every day but this is YOUR first time with invasive surgery
- Once you have paid or been checked out, they rarely respond to your emails or questions
- They advertise as being suitable for out of town visitors but I had issues getting help as an out of town patience
- I think they should increase the cost by $500 and just include a massage and faja so you feel taken care of and not forced into spending more money with them. It leaves a bad taste in your mouth

Full summary

Pre op

I am from the UK but live in the pan handle of Florida. I saw that CG had a good offer on for breast augmentation and 360 lipo and so my husband and I decided to make a holiday out of the whole thing.
.
After speaking to the initial consultant, I was told that I could have the surgery on a Thursday but would have to wait until the Monday to have my post op and so we decided to leave on the Monday. This meant we would need to stay for 10 days in Miami, which can be very expensive.

The sales process is quite intense. You are told you have to book quickly before the slots fill up and you are told that nearly everything is possible and you will be fine. They were VERY responsive in this part of the process and called you frequently whilst waiting for a decision and deposit. We decided to go ahead with it and booked the surgery. I was reasonably confident we would be fine as the worst reviews are about getting your money back and not about the procedure.

During this process, I did tell them that I wouldn’t be able to get my full medical history unless I spoke to my UK doctor. I was told this is fine.
When I checked again, I was told I would need it but they wouldn’t accept it from overseas (is then not out of town friendly).
After panicking (because of the reviews about getting a refund) I was told I would just need to get the tests done locally and all signed off by my local practitioner. This is something that was confusing for me to figure out with it being my first time having to do something like this in the US. CG cosmetics were not particularly helpful in explaining how I got about this and I had to get all the details from my insurance.

I needed an additional echo done and I made sure to ask 3 times if the cardiologist signing this off would be fine, I was told yes. The day of my pre op, this was questioned again and they had to call someone else to confirm. Where were the notes on my case? Why does no one have the same information?
What would have happened if they only did the tests that day, which is an option at an additional $500?

As I was already spending money on the surgery, the travel and the hotel, I was mindful of the cost and did my research on everything you would need post surgery and bought themahead of time online to save on costs - more on this later.

I was confident in my research of it all, at first and will say that I found videos from Dr Miami on Youtube way more helpful than any pre op information I received from the clinic.

Sadly, I only found Dr Miami on our way to Miami but one of the main things he says is not to drink alcohol 2 weeks before the surgery, I think this is information CG should DEFINITELY include because of the impacts it has on your blood and recovery. I was planning on and had been enjoying my social life and Miami up until days before.

All this is to say that on the day of the pre op, I was slightly more panicked about the surgery going well altogether and was hoping to walk into kind faces and polite customer service to put me at ease.

My husband and I had read a review from another lady saying to take snacks and drinks because the wait time can be quite long. Luckily, we were seen pretty quickly but you definitely feel like an inconvenience to the ladies behind the counter instead of a patient/someone paying them for their services. The tone and customer service is particularly indifferent and not the welcome you want 1 day before extreme surgery.

You go to the first lady to sign the invoice and then you are sent back out wait for the next lady. I didn’t bother taking my husband to this 2nd one as I thought it would be the same sort of thing and this is when you HAVE to pay for blood and covid tests (if this out of town friendly, what happens if I had covid and was asymptomatic?).

No, this wasn’t just paying and having a blood test, I was suddenly taken into a small room to meet my surgeon. All of which is very sudden and no one person in the tests leading up to that had a smile on their face or any particular care for you being there. This is a major decision for some people. Be kind.

I explained to my surgeon that one of my breasts is larger than the other, so much so that my husband and I make a joke about them. The lady working with my surgeon asked me to bend over and told me it was just the angle, which I found to be hilarious and a very quick way to dismiss my concerns at the breast augmentation making this more significant.

IMAGINE telling someone who LIVES WITH THEIR OWN BODY EVERYDAY, that what you see everyday is wrong when you have looked at me for less than 2 minutes? And in such a matter of fact way?
And because they do not facilitate you having 2 different sizes.
Dr Loessin met with me for approx 7 minutes and decided what size I would have, told me they were fine and let me leave.

I would have liked the space to be able to call my husband in and discuss the sizes etc a little more but also have him talk me through the surgery itself.
Whilst you can read and read lots of different information on the internet, I think that your own surgeon talking you through the leaking, the massages, the time to heal etc is much more comforting than reading several articles from google.

For example, the surgery makes it sound as though the massages are nice to have and you should buy it from them. Well, given their reviews on refunds, taking money at every chance and constantly upselling and the inflated price points, you can see why some people would consider going elsewhere or assume they can go without. NO, the lymphatic massages are essential to recovery, so much so that they should include the first one, the day after surgery in the price. Just add the cost on! Let me think it’s included in the price.

I had a 2nd massage with an external lady who I found an offer with and then a 3rd massage on the Monday we left with CG because we had to go anyway. My husband then did them for me after that with guidance from Dr Miami and from what I had already had.

Day of surgery

I don’t have too much to say about the day of the surgery. We had already read that it was a different entrance but the security guard was nice enough to give us directions.
Yes, the nurses are doing their jobs quickly and moving around quickly and don’t have much bedside manner but I can accept this more due to the nature of their jobs.

I agreed to do a social media video for the surgery and made a real effort to speak highly of the it all and did this all in good faith of expecting excellent service even after I had left.

The anesthesiologist was lovely. She was the best person I came across in the whole process in terms of talking, putting you at ease and treating you like a person being nervous about surgery instead of another body they are just putting through the motions.

My husband was called as soon as I woke up and I was out of there within 30 mins. We knew there wouldn’t be any waiting around. They gave me a plastic bowl and off I went!

It was then I was told my pre op was in fact the next day and not the Monday! Unexpected as we had been told the whole time it was 3 days later. This is why we spent the extra money on staying in Miami.
Again, why doesn’t everyone have the same information? The nurses looked shocked that I was even told that in the first place because the standard IS that you go in the day after for your pre op and massage.

GIVE EVERYONE THE SAME INFORMATION

I was ok enough that we didn’t travel home immediately but we could have gone home on Saturday and saved $200.

The night of my surgery was rough. I threw up 3 times and just slept. I knew to build a nest in the house and get plenty of food and fluids from Dr Miami but BE PREPARED for how achey your whole body is, not just the surgery area. Be prepared to have not been prepared for how you feel and the extent of the recovery. Yes, I felt better soon enough but only within 5-7 days. Not the 2-4 that you are told.

Post op appointment

Probably where my biggest issues were.
Firstly, they are not consistent with who is allowed into the waiting room. There is a security guard on the door (why?) also, this is another room in a different part of the building but you are directed there easily enough.
My husband is OBVIOUSLY with me, helping me get there etc and is told at the door that he can’t come in. Fine. He goes to find somewhere to sit which is not the couches and waiting area outside the elevator, why? Yet, other ladies either had friends or their husbands sit with them who came later. Why couldn’t my husband come in with me?

Don’t worry though, when I needed his credit card because they couldn’t take my UK card, they let him up and stay. They also let him in with me on the Monday without anyone questioning anything. Who does the training? Why doesn’t everyone get the same information?

The social media guy I had filmed with was there and asked if I could do a follow up which was fine but meant I lost my spot in the queue and I had to double check I was still booked in to be seen at all. Not ideal as I was so uncomfortable and doing them a favour.

I was then taken to the back and put on a bed. I was told I HAVE To have a massage and it would be $100 odd. OK. Fine, I am in shock, pain and too uncomfortable to really think about it and also so aware of wanting to do the best thing possible for this surgery I have just put my body through.

This is the moment that the follow up doctor decided to tell me all these important after care instructions to include how long you can/cannot move for, drinking alcohol, having sex etc.
At this same time, a lady was undressing me and I had liquid running out of every hole they had made in me. I don’t think that is really the appropriate time to take in all that information.
I would consider having this on paper or sending via email.

Whilst the lady who gave me the massage IS lovely, I think her name was Evelyn, she is also upselling a different faja to me because the one that I didn’t buy from them wasn’t appropriate (what a coincidence). I do think she was right but I was not told where the fat would come from and that I needed compression at the top of my back or the importance of this.
I ended up buying a $135 new faja because, again, you are vulnerable, you don’t know what the best thing to do is and you want to make the most of the money and pain you just went through.
In the end, I don’t think the new faja even compressed that part of me and they should do a better job of explaining how, why and where you need the compression.

It was then that they try upsell you an IV treatment and so many other things.
Please, CG cosmetics, understand that you are taking advantage of someone in a very vulnerable state.
Most of the CG team speak in broken English which makes the barrier to understanding and sparking fear in your patients that much stronger.
I think the IV is a nice to have, if you can afford the $200 plus extra that you are pushed to do on the day. They should not scare you into having it.

Follow up questions

Since the surgery, I have text and emailed CG cosmetics 6 times to ask if I need a breast band and to massage my breasts. I was asked to send photos and then radio silence.

I have also asked how to know when you should stop wearing your foams because everything I read online says to ask your surgeon. It doesn’t seem as though CG even offer this as an option so you are left to figure it out alone.

If they ask me to send in my follow up photos to complete the social media video that I went out of my to do, speak highly of them on and ask if/where they want me to complete. I will respond in the same way, silence.

Take away for CG cosmetics

- Train your staff to be more pleasant and welcoming. I have hispanic family and understand some of this is cultural but your patients are about to put themselves through some pretty major surgery and you are the faces they see. Make an effort to be welcoming and helpful
- Remember that this might our first time doing this
- Figure out a way to ease the language barrier
- STOP UP SELLING EVERYWHERE. You would get better reviews if you included some of the items in your final price. Stop conning people out of more and more money. Don’t you get paid enough?
- Be consistent - everyone from security to the nurses should have the same information

Take away for new patients

- I did get the results I wanted and without the hefty price tag I see elsewhere. I do not doubt Dr Loessin’s skills
- If you keep your expectations on the service level low and are aware of the upselling and have the money then CG cosmetics is as good a place to go as any
- If you are local to Miami then this is probably a great local place
- Understand the DO’s and DON’T’s of preparing for surgery and the recovery (see Dr Miami on You Tube). Wearing compression garments in the heat of the US is uncomfortable and it’s hard to find something to wear that doesn’t make you look like a barrel
- Massages for liposuction are necessary and do help, budget accordingly but you can also do them at home if you are confident enough following Youtube videos (after getting at least the first 3 done professionally)
