UPDATE 2023

Hi all...
I've struggled to write or update because I am dealing with major depression and PTSD. It's tough when you are triggered by your own face.
It's been a year and a half since surgery. The swelling is gone which has only made the huge hole between my lips larger. There is a 10 mm gap between my lips now. My philtrum is still 6mm.
I have lost so many basic human functions because of Dr. Masochist ... dang autocorrect. I mean Dr. Mascaro.
I still can't rub my lips together or pucker or drink from a straw or bend over without drooling.
I cant scuba dive because I can't form a tight seal with my mouth.
I dove into a pool and all the water rushed into my lungs because I was unable to close my lips to keep water out. Lips really need to form a tight seal for so many reasons and I'm still in shock that I would have to explain this to a doctor and that he would perform such an aggressive procedure. It makes no sense.
If you are considering this procedure. Please consider the risks as well.
Eventually I may post more pictures after some time and therapy.
But the main reason I posted in the first place was to help others make informed decisions.
So I may not respond to comments because it's all so triggering still.
I appreciate all the kindness and empathy from so many of you. It means more than I am able to express individually but please know that many of you and your comments have gotten me through really dark days, and literally saved me at times. You have made me feel less alone. If there is one silver lining to this, it is that I have seen the power of healing in the kindness of strangers. Words matter. Kindness matters. You are all so appreciated and wonderful EXACTLY as you are!
I hope this new year brings all of you peace and joy and radical self love and acceptance.

MATH- surgical records

Pre-Op I measured 16.5 mm.
He says that he "removed 5.4 from under each ala, 5.6 from the center. ( FY I never agreed to even that amount btw)
But if he had only removed that I would have a nearly 11mm philtrum...
16.5 - 5.6 10.9 mm
My philtrum is 6mm!
When I asked how there is such a huge disparity between what I currently measure (6ish mm) and the simple math equation above. His response was, "surgical measurements are done supine in anatomic position whereas the length is done sitting up." and due to "swelling up"
It’s physically impossible that he only removed 5.6-5.9 mm. Since I have a 8mm gap between lips in repose.
Many other patients of dr Mascaro have also reached out privately and told me that he didn’t even know how much he removed on them and they had to figure it out themselves.
His entire surgical plan seemed to be a reference I made to a model with pouty lips. I specifically stated that I did not want her philtrum length but more the proportion of her lips. (A 1:1 ratio) 12 mm philtrum. We discussed bringing up the sides more than the center.

2 months

Here is a two month update. Thank you to all the kind messages. I’m sorry I haven’t responded individually but I truly appreciate the support and love most of you have shown me.
Pictures presented without comment so that people don’t tell me I’m committed to “my narrative that in botched”. You all can decide whether this is a good lip lift or not.
Hope you all have a happy Sunday!
