Hi Real Self readers....I wasn't going to write a review, but a couple things changed my mind. The first being my age, at 57 I'm in a minority. The second thing that had me wanting to write a review is the Doctor and his staff that performed the surgery. The basics are I am 57 and have always been a 32A, except for the brief time when I nursed my two daughters. I am 5'1", if I stand REAL tall, and weigh about 98 lbs. I'm one that wanted to look like a woman for once in my life, but I didn't want to go too big. My surgery was performed June 24th, 2014. I had Smooth Natrelle style 20 with 300 cc's placed under the muscle with the incision under the breast. My doctor assured me it would give me a nice natural look, with a little "wow" factor. He was so right!
You can well imagine that after all this time, having any sort of breast is quite the new experience. I never imagined I wouldn't be able to reach across and scrub my back the way I have for my entire life. Oh believe me, I am not complaining, it's just that for you women that have had a B cup or above, you'll never understand all the new things I am discovering with my new breasts. I love them and each and every new discovery.
The surgery went great and it only took a couple days of meds to deal with the pain and discomfort. My surgeon put me in a post surgical bra which had an elastic band attached to the top portion. He had me wear it for a couple of weeks and then cut the top band off. I'm now about 2 1/2 months post surgery, I've been wearing a soft comfy sports bra and for the past month I've been sleeping without one on. Yesterday I saw my doctor for a follow up and was told I could now wear whatever I wanted. My left breast has not dropped like the right, but there are a couple of factors that contribute to that from what Nurse Nancy told me. The first, being right handed, the muscle has received a bigger work out, which with the implants being under the muscle, the are massaged whenever that muscle moves. The second reason might possibly be because at two weeks post op I was involved in a slight fender bender and my seat belt sits on top of my left breast, but right across the right one. It could be that the sudden jolt with the seatbelt tightening upon impact forced the right one down a bit. Doc said it wasn't anything unusual for the breast to drop at different rates.
A few last thoughts....If you're anywhere around my age and are considering a BA, please don't hesitate. I so wish I'd of done this 20 years ago, but I'm glad I finally did it. I like the way my clothes fit and I just feel better having a womanly shape over the teeny bopper one I've had most of my life. Please research your Surgeon and be completely comfortable and confident with him and his staff. Dr Thellman, Lawrence, KS and his nurse Nancy are the absolute BEST! I'm going to be sad when the follow up visits come to an end, because I will miss them. They are kind, considerate, professional, thoughtful and they have a wonderful sense of humor, which carries throughout the office. It was just an overall amazing experience. Nancy and Dr Thellman took the time to help me with the sizing and have been encouraging and helpful. I called them bright and early the morning after my car accident and they got me right it. I was an emotional mess, worried about the new breasts and extremely ruffled from the whole accident experience, which was my first by the way. They showed real concern and took the time to ask about the accident and assured me that all was well with the implants.
I want to THANK each and every one of you on this site for sharing your experience, the highs, the lows, the facts and the broad spectrum of emotion that goes along with the decision. The support, encouragement, information and pictures have been and continue to be so valuable. Bless you all!

Hello!! I was so happy to see a post by someone my age!! I turn 57 in Sept. and I'm thinking of getting BA. I'm 5'3 and 140. I would love to hear more about your experiences with your new breasts and how you are adjusting! Thank you!!

Hi! First of all I'd like to thank you for reading my review and sending a message. I've had such an amazing experience so far that I want everyone to experience it. I'm not sure what questions you have or what you'd like to know, but I'm willing to share. I'll give you a little background first. I've always been a small 32A, truth been known, probably a AA. I've lived most of my life in a small rural town and didn't give a lot of thought to having implants. I was raising two girls and the extra money was always needed for something. I moved to Topeka to help my daughter out and all of a sudden I was seeing shapely women in a new light. I became obsessed. I started doing research, reading everything I could and asking a lot of questions. This site was the most helpful thing I found. At the age of 57, I wanted curves, I wanted to look nice in a tank top, t shirt or dress. I mentioned it to my two sisters and my two daughters, all of whom by the way are atleast C cups or above. They sort of snickered and said that it was a waste of money. I let it deter me for awhile and then I decided that for once in my life I was going to do something for myself. I found the most wonderful doctor with an amazing staff and the rest is history. My girls came around once they knew I was going to have it done with or without their approval and both of them went with me and took care of me immediately after the procedure. I had no problems with the surgery at all and minimal pain the two days following. The hardest part for me was not being able to pick up my Grandchildren. Let me know if you have specific concerns or questions and I'd be happy to address them. I'm walking around on a cloud and would love to share the feeling!

Hi! And thank you so much for responding! My story is similar in that I grew up in small towns and all of my relatives have large breasts...All of them! I remember when all of the other girls came back from summer vacation in 7th & 8th grade and they had grown boobs over the summer. Me, I just got a little fullness but no real size. I did make it to a barely-34B and even after gaining and losing 100lbs twice (not proud, just giving a visual) and breast feeding one of my children for 2 solid years, my boobies stayed the same. I did lose some volume but same size. I never did and to this day cannot pass the pencil test, hahaha, do you remember that test? I am type A, perfectionistic, and research everything to death. My shoulders and hips are narrow, however I have a not-so-toned J-lo type bottom and smaller waist typical pear but with bubble bottom, hahah! My fears start with the anesthesia and wondering if they take extra precautions with older gals? I'm healthy, work out 6 days a week, no meds other than bio-identical hormones and supplements. I am also worried about the silicone rupturing...read horror stories of health issues. I've heard that saline is hard and silicone is similar to real. I worry about how to choose size and most of all I worry about them looking even, nipples not pointing downward. I'm wondering how long it takes to get used to being larger after having been teenie tiny my whole life. I love what you said about the new things you are learning like reaching around to wash your back, lol!!! I wonder about nipple sensitivity because in my case nipples are 50% or more of the whole sexual experience and if I knew that there was a high chance of losing feeling there, I would not have the BA;-) I'm still in beginning stages and just booked my first consult...Where I live there are not that many to choose from unless I travel 3 hours to Denver. I liked that you quit the pain killers after a few days, and wondering if you were fine with just Ibuprophin or Tylenol after that. Have you shown any before and after pictures? Are you happy with your chosen size or do you wish that you would have gone larger? Thanks again for posting your experience!!

@Older Gal, I just sent you a PM with information on how to start your own review. We would love to follow and support your journey. Hope you can also join in on the "women in their 50's getting BA" forum too!

Our stories are very similar. I'd had a hysterectomy, gall bladder removal and surgery on a broken ankle, so I was not concerned about the anesthesia at all. The anesthesiologist comes and talks to you before your surgery and all the ones I've had went over everything in detail. Whatever concerns you might have, I would be sure and voice to your surgeon. I've not had a problem at all with the nipple sensitivity, in fact, my have become hyper sensitive. I have heard of women losing sensation, but I've not had a problem with it. Dr. Thellman did put mine under the muscle, due to being thin and not a lot of breast tissue. That combined with the incision being under the breast and not around the areola may have something to do with it, but that's just my opinion. I went with the silicone, there again my doctor suggested it due to lack of breast tissue. I'm pretty health conscious, but the risk seemed worth it. I'll always follow up with annual breast examines and an MRI every three years. I'm extremely happy with my 300cc's. I feel it's about all my frame will support and I didn't want anything that looked out of proportion with the rest of me. I feel like the surgeon is the key to a successful result. If your small breasts are symmetrical and the nipples face forward, then that's how the end result should look only larger. Please research your surgeon thoroughly. Ask for pictures of previous patients and ask lots of questions. Don't rush into it until all your questions are answered and your satisfied with those answers. I'm working at getting some pictures taken so I can post them. It may seem silly, but my arms are short, just like the rest of me and I'm not having a lot of luck taking selfies, but be sure and check back in couple days. I hope I've answered all of your questions, but if not....Ask again and please feel free to continue to ask and express you're concerns. I have heard and read the horror stories of some women and my heart goes out to them.

Thank you Beth, being new to the site I didn't know how to go about that. I do tend to be long winded and I didn't even know there was a 50's BA group. I'll be sure to go there!
August 16, 2014
Yay! so happy to talk to you and I will watch for all of your posts! I'm going to go and figure out how to make my own story thing-of-ma-jig on real self as suggested by Beth above. Can't wait to see your pictures! Did you say what size your bra is now? :-)
August 16, 2014
Good Morning! I haven't been official sized, but with what I've tried, I'm guessing right around a 32C, which is exactly where I wanted to be. I'm waiting for another couple weeks to see if the left breast will drop a little more before I go get correctly sized. I'll be sure and let you know.

Good Morning! I'm so excited to keep up with your progress! Made me laugh about your short arms and the selfies!! Jackets, blazers, long sleeve blouses, they Rarely fit me right....my arms are short too, hahah! Have a great day!

Congratulations liltlq! It's so great to hear from women your age. In fact, I recently started a forum for women in their 50's getting breast augmentation. Feel free to click here and join in! Just curious, what type and and size implants did you end up getting to achieve your new look? Glad you were okay after your car accident!
August 15, 2014
Thank you Beth! I was so concerned about the implants, because the accident happened only 2 wks after surgery. My seatbelt gave my right implant quite the jolt, but it didn't displace it or damage it. Thank you for asking! I chose the Natrelle style 20 silicone, which I think is high profile and went with 300 cc's. I haven't gone to VS yet to be sized, but I'm thinking close to 32C, which is right where I wanted to be. I can't tell you how much I appreciate this site and all the support it provides. I'll be sure to check out the new 50t web site.

Everyone on this site knows it's all about the boobs, so I am braving it and posting a couple pictures of the new set. I'd also like to make a correction, Dr Thellman's nurse is Karen, not Nancy and she's the best!

Wow!! love your pictures!! I'm so glad to see your pic's and can't believe the difference! I look at photo's of women who are conservative with size and think that they are quite large. Wondering if the pic's look much larger than they are in person? Your 300cc's look so good on your frame and to me seem good sized and big! I have a bit larger areola's (hahah, something I never imagined I would be typing), it seems so many women have teeny tiny ones, lol! Wish my tummy was pretty like yours. I don't have stretch marks but do have some loose skin due to big weight losses. I'm thinking of Tummy tuck down the line but going with new boobies first!! Thanks again for posting your pictures!!
