Overall rating

As I shopped around for a plastic surgeon to give my breast implants, I was very concerned about safety (ruptured implant, etc) and loss of nipple sensitivity. I filled out a contact form on Dr. Mofid's website explaining my concerns (including a bad experience my mom had with her implants 30 years ago). Dr. Mofid personally called me at my house the following day (which was a Saturday)!!!! I was blown away...we talked about all the concerns in my email in depth. He told me about Ideal Implants which bring together the best of both saline (safety) and silicone (realistic feeling breasts). And he said he had pioneered research on loss of nipple sensitivity in breast implant patients and could advise me on the best approach to reduce that risk. I met him 2 days later for a consultation in his office. His staff is awesome--super friendly, fun, discreet, caring, patient. But Dr. M was even better! He went line-by-line with me through some items in his contract and ended up spending probably a full hour with me just patiently, happily answering, explaining, and advising. Ultimately, I decided on the Ideal Implants placed through my arm pits (transaxillary) with 280 cc on the left and 300 cc on the slightly smaller right. He was able to recommend an amazing nurse who took me home after surgery and cared for me the first 24 hours (we're still friends!). The nurse is also a patient of his, and she could not stop singing his praises. Because she does after-care for several plastic surgeons, that really spoke volumes because she knows first-hand. On surgery day, I was *very* nervous about going under the anesthesia because it was my first surgery & I've never so much as been drunk before (natural child birth, etc). Dr. M's whole team--including the nurse & anesthesiologist were just perfect. They made me feel very comfortable. I had zero nausea after surgery & did not need the Percoset painkillers (just used over-the-counter meds). I just had my 2 month check-up appointment today, and not only are my breasts truly perfect (nipples pointing in the right direction, completely symmetrical, perfectly proportioned 45:55, soft), but my arm pit incisions already at just 7 weeks are practically invisible (and supposedly it takes a full year for them to completely heal). Dr. M answered questions/concerns for me over the phone in this last 7 weeks after-hours on his personal time with a completely friendly demeanor--he never seemed put out or annoyed by some of the minutia I asked about. Likewise, he was on vacation one week, and I called his office with a question. Their first reaction was, "When can you stop by so the nurse can take a look at you." Within 2 hours, I was being examined just because I'd called with a simple question (at no charge--all included for the initial surgery fee). A lot of things Dr. M told me went against some of the advice I had read on Real Self, but he was always happy to explain why. It became very apparent very quickly that he really is a leader in his field who stays on top of the latest developments, technologies, research, etc. (Some of his competitors I called had never even heard of Ideal Implants and apparently they have been available for 10 years). He has not just gotten complacent, coasting through patients with 20-year-old medical school knowledge as quite obviously some of his local competitors have. I genuinely believe Dr. Mark Mofid is the best San Diego plastic surgeon, and if you have any doubts of any kind...just go meet with him. Consultations are free--nothing to lose :-)
