Posterior Upper Arm Liposculpture

This a review for the upper posterior arm liposculpture procedure that Dr. Douglas Wu performed for me approximately two months ago. I am extremely happy with the results, and I highly recommend Dr. Wu for anyone who is a candidate for this procedure.

I am a relatively fit, 30-year-old asian female, 5’4”, with a weight that has fluctuated between 118-123 pounds for well over 10 years. At first glance, most people would describe me as thin and petite. However, I was cursed with disproportionately large upper arms that were essentially blobs of fat, which made me look much heavier than I actually was. This arm fat was the bane of my existence, until I connected with Dr. Wu. I’ve attached a “before” photo, taken at a very unflattering side angle.

My liposculpture procedure performed back in January 2016 was minimally invasive, fast, and relatively pain-free. I was comfortably back at work after a few days. Dr. Wu suctioned 150cc of fat from each upper arm, and the procedure itself took approximately 2 hours. I’d say the most uncomfortable aspect of the procedure (but quite tolerable for me) was when the tumescent anesthetic was being injected – it felt like multiple little wasp stings. There’s the option of having IV sedation to reduce anxiety and discomfort, but I chose to forgo that.

For the first 24 hours after surgery, I experienced significant drainage from the incision sites, which were circular and approximately 2mm (1/16 of an inch) in diameter (3 on each arm). This was mostly drainage of residual tumescent anesthetic solution that had been injected. I wore a compression garment for 2 weeks after the surgery. I had quite a bit of swelling for the first several weeks, and this contributed to my skin being extremely sensitive to touch. Most of the swelling subsided at approximately the 4-week mark, and now that I’m almost 2-months post-op, I’d say that both the swelling and skin sensitivity have 95% resolved. I’m attaching an “after” photo at the 2-month mark.

In summary, I am so pleased with my decision to have Liposculpture performed by Dr. Wu. He is an amazing person and surgeon, and he has my respect and my highest recommendation.

Dr. Wu is a caring, skilled, meticulous dermatologic surgeon and artist. He also has excellent bedside manner and would put anyone at ease. He’s professional, calm, and confident, yet also has quite a sense of humor and much wit. Some of his comments were subtle, but hilarious, and I still find myself occasionally laughing uncontrollably when I randomly remember something he had said. I am so pleased with my decision to have Liposculpture performed by Dr. Wu. He is an amazing person and surgeon, and he has my respect and my highest recommendation.
