to start off, i’m 21 f 5ft about 106lb. i started looking into kybella after seeing all weight gain go straight to my face. after seeing good feedback i decided to book a consultation.
my injections are scheduled on 11/2 and i begin taking arnica two days geforce as instructed. i’m numbed about an hour before then injected with two vials mixed with lidocaine. the process was very pain free and everything felt fine. she massaged me arnicare gel and iced the area. i’ve been continuing this aftercare at home.
today is now 11/16 and i’m starting to worry. i noticed a few days ago my neck got worse after looking like it was getting better. the area is incredibly tender and huge. i woke up this morning feeling very uncomfortable. even having my blanket brush over the area felt just a little painful i suppose. i’m not sure how to describe the feeling. it kind of feels like slight zaps. even as i’m writing this i can feel it. this is a new sensation to me and i’m noticing it’s mostly coming from the bottom area.
based on other experiences i’ve read, im very aware that it’s too soon to see results. i’m more concerned about how the area changed for the worse within a week or so. i went from bullfrog to less swelling to painful bullfrog. is this normal ? also i haven’t seen much people complain about pain. i was painless until today. i’m getting a bit paranoid reading these horror stories of those whose face permanently look like mine after kybella due to nerve damage. looking to see what others have to say before reaching out to the injector since it’s only been two weeks. will keep posted.

I had one kybella injection in August and I still have a sensitive area under my chin. It’s November.
November 20, 2019
Omg please tell me that by now your swelling is gone even though you still feel sensitive under your chin?
November 20, 2019
The swelling lasted a while. It got worse before it got better. It felt numb, itchy just very uncomfortable. They said it would last a few weeks but mine lasted way longer than that. The spot underneath my chin is probably about the size of a half dollar that is still a little uncomfortable. Where as the area that was uncomfortable were where all the injections were. It’s unfortunate because I don’t see a significant difference. Don’t worry the swelling will go down. The uncomfortableness will go away but it takes a while and it’s annoying. Like I said it’s been over three months for me and I’m still not 100%.

i'm sorry that this experience has been so negative. from what i read, that much of a recovery time doesn't seem normal. did you express these concerns to your injector ?
November 20, 2019
Hi, I had my kybella done six weeks ago. You will see the results it just take time.
I experienced alot of swelling and sensitivity , i felt like sometimes i was feeling numbness as well.. good thing it was starting to get colder outside so i could wear a scarf to hide my swelling.. i also massaged my chin b/c i felt like i was getting a knot, the messaging helped... oh and i experienced a little crooked smile. This scared me .. i started looking thing up on the internet. Make the long story short the swelling , sensitivity, numbness, went away and my crooked smile is even..
November 21, 2019
thank u for sharing your experience! i do feel more relaxed now as the knot has gone down a bit. out of curiosity, how many vials did you do and do you plan on going back for another treatment ?
November 22, 2019
1 treatment, 2 vials.. yes, if i feel like i need to get another treatmenr..
November 22, 2019
the injector said i might need another treatment as well to get rid of all the fat. though i'm not sure if its worth going through this again. hope you recover faster if you decide to do another round :)

looks like it's gone down just a bit but still very tender. massages help a bunch. i really can't wait for it to go away! wonder if it’ll be less noticeable by Thanksgiving.

Sorry but I don't see a difference with Kybella. I did lipo and my chin looks worse per fam & friends feedback.
December 5, 2019
Ohhh no!!You had Lipo and your friends and family thinks your chin looks worse now? Every single light the picture that I've seen looks incredible I'm so sorry. Hopefully it will get better and maybe you're just swelling right now.

people need to understand there are two separate problems:
1. you've got too much fat
2. the fat has stretched your skin out, possibly over decades depending on your age
Kybella will *definitely* solve #1, as will lipo. But #2 could remain a problem for a long time, especially if you are older. Everyone's skin is different, and Kybella's skin-tightening is only temporary. So anyone having Kybella should talk to their provider about how long it may take for the skin to recover, and what can be done to aid that?

i'm 21 and didn't have too much fat to begin with. i'm now 3 or 4 months post kybella and still have a lump that is going down, just very very slowly. i was told swelling is only about a month which is so not true. not much else you can do afterwards but ice (immediately after) and then massage. other than that you just have to be patient. if i was aware it would've taken so long for such minor results, i wouldn't have gone it done

hi eastbayarea, I'm sorry, my comment was actually aimed at Friendly3076 and just readers at large. I must have clicked on the wrong Reply link. I know you are much younger and I wasn't addressing your issue. You hadn't posted since Thanksgiving so I thought maybe the problem already went away and you were inactive.
So now that I know you are still out there, let me just say that 3-4 months and still having a lump is concerning. I find it especially concerning that you say the swelling went down a bit and then came back. Put those two things together, and it doesn't sound like a Kybella problem to me. It could be a side-effect of the procedure (accidentally punctured thyoid?) or it could even be something completely unrelated, that appeared at the same time by coincidence.
I would probably go to my regular doctor and ask him or her to examine my larynx and thryoid and/or do a general checkup and see if there could be some other problem that by coincidence arose as the kybella swelling was going down. At your age, your metabolism and circulation should be much better than mine, and my bullfrogs went down in only one weekend in each of three separate treatments.Slow metabolism can be caused by hypothyroidism, which can be ruled out with one blood test and by your doctor asking you a series of questions. I'm not a doctor but I have two siblings with thryoid issues so I have learned a fair amount through osmosis. Hypothyroidism is not the end of the world, it is treatable by taking a pill in many cases.
So that's what I would do.I would go see my regular doctor and let him or her check me out to rule out other issues. There is some reason your swelling is still there after 3-4 months and mine was gone in 3-4 days. I would use my regular doctor to try to figure out why.

I forgot to say I'm sorry you've had such an unusual experience and I hope it's nothing. Kybella for me has been just as advertised. But my injector happened to mention last time that she's not allowed to go anywhere near my larynx or my thryoid. I hope yours was as well trained.

thanks for the response. very informative and confirms my own thoughts. i reached out to my provider and was told that it's normal to still have the lump. i was planning on going in for another vial or two but this experience has definitely taken that thought out of the picture. i'm going to take your advice and see my medical doctor. thank you!!

feeling much better! i’ve been massaging it 2x day with arnicare, morning & night. i’ve noticed that if i massage right before bed i wake up a lot less bullfroggy. definitely been helping.
the lump is still there but less noticeable. if looking straight, i can barely notice the mass under my chin. my side profile is another story.. slowly but surely. :)

thanks for letting me know! has the swelling completely gone down from first treatment yet for you? i was thinking about another but i'm still indecisive on whether it's worth going through a month+ of this again lol
December 2, 2019
So the swelling is almost gone but i have about 5 inches across and 1.5inches wide of a hard mass. Thats making me look swollen still. I wish it would go away already. Lol
December 15, 2019
hey! just wondering if that hard lump has gone down for you yet? it seems like it hasn't gone down much changing in these past weeks and my patience is reallyyy shrinking lol
December 17, 2019

Too late now it was only for the holidays.. i go to be clinical in san ramon, ca.
June 17, 2020
Hi- would you mind posting an update? I’m considering going to this clinic.
June 17, 2020
hello - sorry for lack of update! my area doesn’t look much different from this picture, just less noticeable towards my neck. i thought the mass would disappear but it just went from solid to flab. based on my personal results, im pretty disappointed... the staff was/is friendly though.
