Kybella - My Experience

UPDATED FROM CougrGroomr

Long overdue update!

WORTH IT$1,440
It’s been a couple of years since my kybella procedure and I never got around to posting a truly final result. The funny thing is, you really don’t realize just how long the swelling truly takes to go down, nor that it can take about a year to see the difference.

Doctor Smart is fantastic. As I’ve stated in other reviews of procedures he’s done for me, he’s great to work with and very knowledgeable . His staff is compassionate and every outcome has been what I imagined it would be. Highly recommend!

Thank you for sharing its about a month since I had 2 injections for Kybella..I was getting discouraged, when will I see my results.
Honestly, I'd give it AT LEAST a year. It really does take that long to truly see permanent results, depending on how fast your body metabolizes the destroyed fat cells, AND the swelling. Don't be discouraged!
Do you have any side by side profile pics? I'm thinking about kybella but there are so many negative reviews. It's hard to tell from your pics but you look great in the 2020 one!
Did you have any loose skin prior to it and if so, did that become more noticeable in any way after the fat was gone?
Yes
Run don’t do it
Really? Did it make yours worse?
I’m about 16 weeks from my injections and I feel like I’m still very swollen. She told me to be patient, but never said it could be a year before I saw results. You look great!
How many vials did you have in that treatment?
Tomorrow is going to be 1 month for me and I haven't seen a difference, in fact I think it's more noticeable than before I got it done :(
The swelling took 3 weeks for me. Never expected it. Your chin looks great. I love my results and I only did it once. I did it the minute I gained 1 pound so you can see it in my neck now I don’t see it at all

Day Two — Ugh

Day two. I’m definitely more swollen and kind of uncomfortable. The neck pain is different now and feels like it’s radiating into my jaw and upper chest, as well as causing tightness in the back of my neck. Overall, I feel like I have a sore throat and am achy, similarly to when you’re sick, and have a dull headache. It’s really odd.
When I woke up this morning, the whole area felt very stiff and I couldn’t elevate my chin more than about 30 degrees without experiencing discomfort. The area is also very numb, yet tender to the touch.
You can see from the photos that the area is much more swollen today. Hopefully, it’ll dissipate a bit by Christmas!

How are you feeling? I had mine on Tuesday dec 19
Feeling better, but still very sore. Lots of swelling still present. The tightness in my neck isn’t as bad though, but it still doesn’t feel “normal”. How about you?
Still bruised and swollen and now I jiggle in front of my find pipe . Went to a party last nite and kept scarf around it.
How do I add my pic ?
hmm, I don’t know if you can on a comment thread. I think you can only add them on your own review. :(
How is it now? I got mine yesterday... so crazy swollen today... HA!
when did you notice the swelling and redness o down? I’m on day 4 and my neck is very red and swollen
I just finished my 3rd treatment. the first time it swelled nd bruised 2 weeks. 2nd time not so bad. this time, it’s only been 2 days nd swelling going down quickly , good luck
ORIGINAL POST

Kybella - My Experience

I’ve always had a genetically fuller chin and cheeks. Despite my weight, it’s never really been very defined—even at my thinnest (128lbs 5’8). I’ve hated my profile in pictures and have struggled to feel confident enough not to “pose” in every picture, in attempts to hide my chin.
I decided to give Kybella a shot today. Went in for my consult and my doc explained all the details. He felt I was a good candidate as my skin has enough elasticity to bounce back, once the fat has dissolved. He also believes the procedure can create subtle skin tightening, in some patients with slightly loose skin, as the “trauma” to the area creates tightening effect of its own.
I was given a great deal of numbing to the area, which was a combo of lidocaine and epinephrine—the epinephrine causes blood vessels to constrict to lessen bleeding/bruising during and after the procedure. If you’ve ever had a lidocaine shot prior to an IV being placed, that’s what it felt like, about 10 times in various areas of the neck and chin. The numbness felt very strange and left me with a sensation of having cotton in my throat. It quickly dissipated though.
The Kybella injections themselves were very quick. Despite having a grid of 20-30 dots (in my opinion) on my chin, he went thru the injection process much quicker than the time spent for numbing. While the injections didn’t really hurt, per se, the medication itself does burn. I’d be lying if I told you I felt nothing. Unfortunately, I’ve never experienced a comparable sensation, because along with burning, it felt like my neck/chin muscles were on the verge of spasming, but it would go away before it would actually happen—maybe 20-25 seconds long. That’s the most accurate description I can come up with.
The procedure itself took about 20-25 min (give or take) and I was provided with a chin compression wrap and a soft gel cold pack. That really helped with the immediate after-burn. Kybella only burns, post injection, for about 20 min. By then you can remove your ice and use it as needed, for swelling.
The swelling happened almost immediately, by the way. By the time I paid and walked to my car, it was there. It’s been steady at about 3 times the size of my normal fullness....squishy and giggly, when I walk or hit a bump in the road, when driving. It’s also uncomfortable to look over my shoulder when driving. The feeling of the skin stretching is an odd sensation. It doesn’t really hurt, it’s just strangely tight—I assume because of the swelling.
Anyway, that’s where I’m at, on day one, within 6 hrs of my procedure. I’ll post more pics as I progress. Feel free to ask any questions!

How did it turn out for you? How long did the swelling last? I’m doing it today for jowls and feeling nervous.
Oh nevermind- I see that you just posted this!
No worries! Will letcha know. So far, I can’t tell if I feel really cruddy because of the procedure or because I’m coming down with something. My son has the flu so for the first time in my life, I’m hoping it’s flu and not some weird complication!
Hope your procedure went smoothly!
Thank you for sharing this experience! I also have the same problem and hate taking profile pictures.. I am looking into getting this done but I wanted an honest review of the cost so I can start to prepare for it. If you don’t mind me asking how much is the cost per session?
Kybella is sold per vial, like Botox and fillers, and averages between $600-800 p/ vial. My doc charges $600, but was having a 20% holiday sale, so my procedure, including the 3 vials, was $1440. If I need a second session, he said I’d probably only need 1 vial, but likes to wait a minimum of 6 weeks, until all the swelling subsides. The manufacturer recommends 4 weeks between sessions, but he finds the swelling hasn’t completely resolved and you end up injecting more than you might need to, had you waited longer to see results from the first one.
Okay thank you for the info!!
How long does the kybella last? Is this something that needs to be done every 3-6 months
It’s supposed to be permanent, like lipo. It destroys the fat cells entirely.
Awesome, thank you for replying!
Thank you for sharing! I’ll be following your updates as I have wanted this for years!!!!!
