Kybella at 24—My double chin is definitely a product of my poor lifestyle choices.

To start off, I was at a stable weight all my life. I sat at 120-138 lbs from highschool up to college and was able to maintain that weight for most of my adult life. I’m 24 now and leading up to that, I gained some serious and I mean SERIOUS weight. This is a mixture of my post-college lifestyle, my poor diet and probably because my fiancé fed me all the time. The only thing with that is his metabolism breaks down how much we eat and he’s lost weight in the process of our relationship.

With that in mind, I want back track and let anyone know reading this that I used to be a health nut. I was always in the gym, drinking water and watching what I ate. My double chin is definitely a product of my poor lifestyle choices. It wasn’t hereditary and I’ve never really had that much of a double chin before.

Fast forward a little, my boyfriend becomes my fiancé and we want to look good for our wedding. Of course I could workout but I’m a creature of bad habit and love spending money on things that intrigue my interest.

I did research for 2-3 months (and also tried going to the gym during that time) on ways to lose my double chin. This included liposuction, neck massages, cardio, neck straps?, CoolSculpting, investing in Facetune. Lol, you name it.

I came across a few dermatology clinics in my area since I also wanted to invest in skin procedures. After making a few calls and talking to my fiancé about the cost, we said no. Instead I thought about getting fillers which leads me to the clinic I went with MNWCare.

They were hands down the sweetest clinic. I met with an injection specialist, Melissa, who took care of all my questions from the consultation to the actual procedure. She was so honest and genuine from the start and told me that it would be an investment but that there is a special during Late April that is buy one get one half off. She reassured me that it’s my body and if I didn’t want to go through with it, she would still be happy to sit down and answer any questions I had. She also provided me with before and after photos of clients she has done Kybella on. Additionally, I showed her REAL reviews on REALSELF of Kybella horror stories and she explained that if an injector isn’t knowledgeable about the depth or the amount they’re putting into a client, it can do damage/not show any results/the acid will sit in the wrong layer and not target the fat.

So I wasn’t sure if she was lying or not but I jumped on the wagon and scheduled an appointment with her. She was pretty quick and did the whole procedure in 10-11 minutes (I have it all recorded). She talked to me the whole time and made sure that I was feeling okay.

The staff there were so sweet and answered all of my continuous calls. I feel really taken care of, to be honest.

How many vials did you have?

Melissa recommended 4 vials in one session. So 8mL total.

Cost?

$400/each. I paid a total of $1,600.

Does this clinic take CareCredit?

Yes but I paid in full.

Was I a good candidate?

Uhm.. I would like to think so? My skin elasticity is pretty decent still since I’m fairly young so she said it would bounce back. Also, I do have a lot of sebaceous fat? Sitting under chin from all the weight gain.

Pros?

The clinic answered all my calls and Melissa did a great job answering all my concerns. I still keep in touch with her.

Kybella also HURT. Melissa explained to me that Asian skin are more sensitive since the nerves or sensory feelings are closer to the skin. But after the first initial injections, everything went numb so I couldn’t feel much anymore lol.

Cons?

I’m still kind of swollen below. I BRUISED so bad. I thought the downtime would be quicker but it’s honestly not. Fortunately for me, the biggest swelling went down in 3-4 days. Now I just look bloated all the time, haha.

Are you scheduled for a second session?

No. Melissa and I talked about getting results with just one session since I don’t want to continuously go in. We’ll see how I heal up though.

Would you recommend this to your friends?

Honestly, it’s so expensive. It is an investment. And the likelihood of having to get multiple sessions done before seeing drastic results is high since results vary for everyone. I would reference results from the Kybella site since they also display how many mL were used to get those results.

Thank you for sharing! I've considered this procedure myself, for pretty much the same reasons, so I appreciate hearing all of the pros and cons. Finding the right provider is half the battle with any procedure so I'm glad you found someone you're comfortable with too.

Please keep posting photos! I look forward to following your progress.

Day 16 Recovery Update

MPYa
There is still small lump under my chin but overall the swelling has gone away. My chin hasn’t gone back to the regular size from before Kybella so I’m hoping it’s just a few more weeks until I see actual results.

For the most part, most of the tenderness has gone away. It’s still a bit numb in the central area of the lump but it’s nothing that bothers me.

Overall, the recovery process after week 1 is pretty stable. I can do everything like I used to. It just looks like I gained some extra weight.

Week 3

Literally just a photo update of 3 weeks post Kybella.

The lump is pretty much almost gone. The tenderness is minimal unless I massage for a long period of time. And it’s still a little numb in the most central area of the Kybella shots.

There’s still a few more weeks until the final result. Overall, it looks like it went back to its normal state.

**please note the change in lighting and posing for the comparison photos**
