My story pre Dr. Hall: I am 63 years old, not young but not old by any means. I have undergone breast reconstruction of the left breast-twice over a period of two years and 7 surgeries. I wish I had found Dr. Jason Hall sooner because my family and I WOULD HAVE BEEN SPARED worry, suffering and pain. I had DCIS that had returned in the left breast after 21 years, therefore a mastectomy was advised. The first plastic surgeon I chose had been highly recommended. When a woman chooses a plastic surgeon there are so many factors that lead into this decision, the biggest one being trust, the second, knowing the surgeon is listening to you. After being expanded to 450 cc by my first surgeon, I woke up with a 680 cc silicone implant. It was way too big, way too wide, misplaced in the weak, unsupported pocket and way too heavy. As a result, I ask my first surgeon to be replace the implant with a smaller one because I could not sleep. The 680 cc implant had laterally shifted under my armpit as well as dropped to my 4th rib. The first surgeon agreed to replace it. I begged for a 350 cc implant but when I awoke I had a 495 cc implant. I was devastated. As time passed I began to feel the definite sensation of someone poking me on the front of this implant as if a stick was passing through my body from front to back. I had had a latissimus flap procedure by the first surgeon also. The latissimus would also cramp up at night as if it was in a knot. The 495 cc implant was on the move again also. Still not in the correct place, it moved laterally again and also dropped as did the first implant. I never knew that a misplaced implant could definitely color the outcome of a reconstruction; mine certainly did. Thus, I decided, with the encouragement of a dear friend who had also had reconstruction, to go seek second and third opinions and I am so glad I did. Enter brilliant Dr. Jason Hall. He LISTENS, he CARES, and he loves puzzles and challenges. After many appointments and getting to know this marvelously gifted surgeon, I would never go anywhere else. Dr. Hall came up with solutions and carried through with his plan expertly. My first operation combatted the latissimus nerve problem. He went in and severed the nerve, thus giving me instant relief. I no longer felt as if a poker was being thrust through my breast to the back of me. Personally, I believe that latissimus nerve should be severed immediately during the flap procedure. (I am no medical doctor so this is only my opinion). Second, after a three month wait, Dr. Hall tackled the silicone implant problem. He had said I had no inner mammary fold. This is the crease under a woman’s breast. I had none; I did not have much of any support under that implant. He aimed to give me one back by sewing a piece of alloderm/strattice ( a scaffolding type support) to my rib cage muscles. (I had had another PS offer an opinion before I went to Dr. Hall but no hope was offered in correcting the problem). Dr. Hall also did liposuction during the prior latissimus nerve severing operation on a small portion under my breast. This was to be completed later when dealing with the implant replacement. The final blessed results: During my final operation, Dr. Hall did indeed accomplish all he had aimed to do and I had full knowledge of what he was going to do concerning my problem. I had come to trust him completely. He did find an alloderm/strattice material inside me when he opened me up but it was not sewn to support my implant as it should have been. Dr. Hall took this alloderm/strattice and sewed it to my rib muscles from under my arm, so the implant would never laterally move again. He sewed it over to my sternum giving it a hammock effect so the implant would be secure and strongly held in place permanently to avoid any dropping down. The new implant now in its proper place was perfect! I now have an inner-mammary fold that is in line and even with the right breast; I have a reconstructed breast that is a kissing- cousin to my natural breast, I have strong support of the implant and a much needed severed latissimus nerve. I also have had two renown medical doctors who personally know me well say Dr. Hall did an absolutely BEAUTIFUL job. And I AM GRATEFUL TO HIM BEYOND ALL WORDS. My reconstructed breast will never feel like my natural breast did. And reconstruction is not for the faint of heart nor the 'whinner.' Throughout the past two years, I have tried to retain a positive attitude not wishing to worry my family, my friends or myself. Dr. Jason Hall, through his patience, his listening, and his remarkably superb surgical skills is solely responsible for me now going forward with my life in comfort with the confidence and the optimism I have always had. THANK YOU! My Dr. Jason Hall.
