Here goes - a little about me. 34 year old mother of two young ones. I've had gappy front teeth since I can remember. Previous dentists have advised it is because I still have a baby canine in the line up and should the adult tooth have come down properly the gaps would have been closed. But anyway - so a baby canine still there and the adult tooth erupted behind it about 6 years ago now. I have had a few opinions on the best way to have everything fixed - from pulling both out and replacing with an implant and putting veneers on to "close the gaps" to leaving as it is as it's "too hard" (yep I left that office after a few minutes). I've been reading about Invisalign for a while now, but decided now is the time to make it happen!

I had the impressions done early last week, so they are expected back in the next couple of weeks. But in the meantime I am waiting for my referral to have the baby tooth pulled before we start. The Ortho said although the baby tooth has a good root system, he doesn't believe it will hold on too well with all the shifting that will be happening and if it's out the way it will allow the one behind to shift into place without having to worry about when to get it out. So i'll be extra gappy for a little while. Unfortunately the tooth needs rotation too (see piccies) but the Ortho is confident it's "easy as" (it helps that he is super enthusiastic lol).

Trying to patiently await for them to arrive, reading up on everyone's experiences and advice to ensure i'm ready to go! Will be asking him about acceledent as well next time I visit. He hasn't said how long treatment will be, he said he has to wait until he speaks with the people about the treatment plan before he will know. GAH hate waiting!!

I'll try and upload some piccies - eep! I NEVER show my teeth in pictures so this is really hard to do - but here goes! Look forward to sharing everyone's journey towards their beautiful teeth!

Hi! I just started my invisalign about two weeks ago with acceledent and I could not recommend it more! The waiting was the worst part for me too. Because I was working away, I had my initial consult in mid August, got impression done in mid September and wasn't able to actually start til the end of October. I have two teeth that require a fair bit of rotation, but my clincheck shows them moving in line so we'll see... Back to acceledent - if you've got the cash, I'd so do it! My treatment time is planned to take less than 4 months (without refinements) because of it. Even with refinements, I should be done within six months so should be able to still sell it and recover some of the costs. It helps with the pain in the first few days and being able to change trays weekly is a bonus! Good luck, can't wait to read more reviews.

Thanks Carmelagrace! Im definately looking into acceledent for sure. Ill have a chat to the Ortho at my next appointment. Anything to speed up the process. I was looking at the procedure where they drill into the bone too to reduce the density making them easier to move, but think im too chicken for that :) Did you post your clincheck vid up? I might see if I can see to look at the rotation.

Hello and welcome to the community!!!  :)

I see you already met CarmelaGrace, and you mention that you've looked around, so I won't inundate you with other reviews to check out unless you want me to :D.

AcceleDent is super-popular in AU--not sure why, but loooots of our Aussies have AcceleDent.  For a short course it may be a bit expensive, but for a really long course, it can make such a difference.  Your case is kind of ambiguous to me--you have the one tooth that's way out of place, and that will take a while to move.  But the rest of our teeth are really quite straight!  Just small diastemas that shouldn't even take a year to close.  So I'm really curious how everything will add up in the treatment plan!  Do you have any bite issues other than the cross-bite over by the misplaced canine?

Do let me know if you'd like me to give you other reviews to check out, but you seem to've already gotten the hang of this place.  If you have any questions about the site, don't hesitate to ask--I'm here to help!

Hi TwoPlusOne - thanks for the welcome! The orth said apart from the gaps and the canine issue my teeth are quite good. I think that is why he didn't want to give me any indication of how long it would take - as he really isn't too sure at this stage. No bite issues either. I'm soooo looking forward to moving the canine - i'm sick of catching my tongue on it and its quite pointy :( I've also been stalking the teeth whitening forums as after this is all done, i'm going to treat myself (hubby doesn't know it yet lol - but i'm sure I can hide the expense somewhere) ;)

Seriously consider just using an at-home whitening gel like Opalescence in your Invisalign trays.  You can even do it during treatment, even with the attachments on!  It doesn't leave dark spots under the attachments.  It's way cheaper, and you're stuck in treatment anyway.  And there's no risk of zingers or anything.  I've had fantastic results from my whitening and I used Opalescence.  There's nothing special about that brand, either.  There are lots of fantastic brands out there.  Just ask your doctor which he'd recommend--that's what I did and my doctor happened to sell this one (at enormous markup, by the way,) so I bought it.  Amazon had it waaaay cheaper.

Awesome thanks! There are so many products on the market for this - it's quite overwhelming and you don't want to keep spending $$s for it to not work. I think #1 thing is I have to stop drinking so much coffee. Poor people at work lol.

LOL!!!!!  Yeah, I don't drink any coffee or tea or red wine or anything like that, so my results last a looooong time.  But once you start using the syringes at home, you can touch-up whenever you need to.

oh YAY just went onto the Ortho's website and he promotes acceledent usage! Might drop him an email to see how much it costs.

Sorry, just saw this now. I tried posting the vid but it cut off the last bit so I deleted it. Will try uploading again.

Quick Question

I'm due for my annual clean - but they have taken the impressions already. Should I still get it done, or just wait and ask the orth? i'd hate to have it done and it affects the aligners (not that I have heaps of build up - but you never know).

Getting a cleaning should not affect anything.  In fact, you will continue to have your regular cleanings even while you do your treatment.  The only thing that might be an issue is if you need to get a crown or something.  They don't always fit.  But then it's best to do that ASAP and keep in close contact with your ortho as well.

So being the impatient me I emailed my orthodontist and asked him what the progress was on the trays/aligners. He said they were at least another 10-12 days away - bugger :( He told me there are 34 trays in total - but warned that there might be more to finalise everything. Acceledent has definitely gone onto my Christmas wish list!

3-4 weeks in all, then.  That's not bad in terms of wait-time.  That's how long I waited and I'm in the US! :D

I know - i'm just impatient lol. I keep thinking that's time I could have them in and starting the process. I asked about acceledent and he said $100 per month - so i'm not sure if that's a payment plan or what - just waiting to hear back from him.

The price ranges tremendously, but you might want to check on eBay AU because a lot of Aussies sell these units and buying a new mouthpiece is only like $100.  You could pay anywhere from just under AU$1000-1750 I think for a new unit!  I think I've seen prices like that.  Have you seen our AcceleDent Forum?  We can't buy and sell here on RealSelf, but you can ask what people paid and where they bought it from.  A lot of people have already posted.  I'm pretty sure that both Henry Z and brosegr bought it on eBay AU.
