Lovely Skin -- After a Lifetime of Trying.
So, please let me gush for a brief moment about the wonderful folks at Kovanda. Sorry if this is long.
I went in initially for a consult regarding my mid-face, which has been migrating south, and had a thoughtful evaluation from Dr. Kovanda. He encouraged me to try the Halo Laser before making a decision to move forward with other things.
Initially I was a little resistant to this, as I couldn't imagine how a laser would help; I'm 50, and I've basically struggled with skin issues my entire life (even as a baby, says my mom). I was on antibiotics at 13, went to every dermatologist around for my acne, and thus began the lifelong merry-go-round of skin treatments to try to keep my acne (and later, rosacea) under control. Now there are wrinkles too.
Anyhow, Dr. Kovanda encouraged me to do my research. So I did. And I was curious enough after looking on Real Self and elsewhere to try Halo at Dr. Kovanda's office.
The people who market this say it's pain free, but I've had a lot of skin treatments to compare it with and it hurt about as bad as any of them. The numbing helped, but you do get a wave of internal burning afterwards that is alarming the first time.
And, honestly, I can't imagine anyone going out to a dinner party afterwards as the makers of the device claim. Not unless you're going to a zombie party or some kind of costume theme. My face swelled up like a water balloon. I looked like hamburger for a few days and fortunately was able to hide away from people until it subsided.
About a month after this, my coworkers started comment on how my skin looked really healthy. My mom came to visit after two months and said that my skin had never looked better -- the redness (for me) had subsided, and my giant orange peel pores shrunk.
I have had two more treatments (for a total of three). I am a month out since my third. I have to say the transformation has been incredible. I don't wear any makeup when I go out now (always sunscreen, yes) and I can honestly say that this is the skin I've always wanted. It's tighter, uniform in texture and color, and (for me) had a positive affect on curbing some of the rosacea. The pores are smaller than I can remember.
None of this stuff is cheap, and of course I was fortunate to find a promotion package. But I can say that of all of the things I have tried in my attempts to normalize my skin issues -- this really was the biggest improvement I have seen, and it has translated into me feeling more confident in other aspects of my life.
I also wanted to say that Dr. Kovanda and every single person there were gracious, kind and warm. They made me feel that they were helping me work to achieve my goals, and I can't thank them again for the huge transformation this has made to my skin.
