Finally Getting a Revision Rhinoplasty!

After my first rhinoplasty with a surgeon from the States, I was left with horrible results which damaged my confidence immensely. I stopped going out and feared photos. The confidence issue affected all areas of my life. After 3 years of suffering, I finally decided to do something about it.
I stumbled across a review for Dr. Waseem Saeed on RealSelf one day. I went through all his RealSelf reviews (all positive) and even went on his website where I saw lots of photos showing results of surgery. What I liked was that one of his 'before' photos looked like my nose - and the 'after' was exactly what I wanted. I was over the moon when I found out Dr. Saeed was just a few miles down the road from me!
When I went in for my consultation at Wilmslow Hospital I was very nervous. Dr. Saeed was so kind and lovely, I instantly felt at ease. It was amazing to finally speak to someone about my problems with my nose and not feel judged. He immediately went about sketching my nose from different angles and asked me what I didn't like about my nose. I said I didn't like how it's not straight - Dr. Saeed said this is because I have a deviated septum causing it to curve slightly. He then proceeded to look in my nose and said he was surprised I could even breathe out of it. I said I didn't like how the tip is round and blobs down onto my lip when I smile, and that I thought I had a drooping columella - Dr. Saeed said that he didn't think it was a drooping columella, but rather a lack of cartilage support in my tip. He described my tip as a tent that needed tent poles to hold it up. I said I didn't like how you can see all into my nostrils, especially from the side profile. He said this is because too much cartilage had been removed from my septum in my previous rhinoplasty. Up to this point in the consultation, I was very happy I'd decided to book the consultation. I could tell that this man was incredibly passionate about his work and genuinely wanted to help me.
Dr. Saeed then went about drawing diagrams and describing the methods he would use to fix each individual problem. For the tip, he was going to use a cartilage graft from my ear or rib to add projection and create an actual point. For the deviated septum, he was going to use spreader grafts to hold my septum straight which will not only look better cosmetically, but will allow me to breathe better as well (I have never been able to breathe well out of my nose). For my nostril show problem, he was going to add a septum graft so the high angle showing off all my nostrils can be improved.
Dr. Saeed showed me lots of before and after photos of previous clients and asked me what I thought about 3 or 4 of their results. As I'd said I wanted a refined, pointy nose (just personal preference) there were a range of pointy nosed beautiful ladies to look at. I loved all of them and said I'd be happy to come out with a nose looking anything like theirs! This gave me confidence because it meant Dr. Saeed not only had an accurate idea of what nose I wanted, but had created it before. I was so happy he'd listened to everything I'd said, didn't rush me, and took his time talking with me. I left Wilmslow Hospital so happy that day. I did a Facetime consultation with Dr. Saeed in September and booked the surgery for November 3rd.
When I went in for surgery on November 3rd at Wilmslow Hospital, I was a bag of nerves. I got in for 11am but my surgery didn't begin until 3.30pm. Due to all the staff being so lovely and friendly (seriously WOW) I felt at ease after about an hour. I met a variety of different nurses and people telling me about my medication etc. When I was finally called in to surgery, I was nervous again, but the anaesthetist and nurse were so chatty and nice. Dr. Saeed popped in to say hi, and shortly after I passed out. I woke up at about 7 and was so groggy. I don't know how I ended up back in my room. Dr. Saeed came in and showed me photos he took of my finished nose, but I was so groggy I don't remember what it looked like. I know I liked it at the time though, lol. I remember him showing me my nose from above and saying "look how straight it is", which I was very happy about.
I was treated like a VIP in Wilmslow Hospital. Very clean premises and absolutely amazing service. I stayed over one night before my boyfriend came to pick me up at 9am, and even though I felt so much nausea from the anaesthetic, and discomfort from the nasal packing, I knew I was in good hands. Nurses were always checking on me and asking if I wanted anything to eat or drink which was really sweet.
I'm currently taking antibiotics 3x a day with paracetamol if needed. I also have to give myself jabs in the stomach daily to prevent blood clots.
Day 1 & 2 - Still had the anaesthetic in my system and felt groggy, a bit of nausea. Could barely eat anything. Good to be home though.
Day 3 - The anaesthetic wore off but the swelling got worse. The swelling makes your head feel like there's a lot of pressure in it. I wouldn't say rhinoplasty is painful, but it's incredibly uncomfortable. Not being able to breathe through my nose at night makes me wake up multiple times to get a drink as my mouth is so dry. I can't remember the last time I had a good night's sleep.
Day 4 - Swelling is increasing and the congested feeling is worse today too.
Day 5 - Swelling is decreasing! I still can't breathe out of my nose but fingers crossed it happens soon. I had no idea it was going to be this uncomfortable! 2 days until my 1 week post-op appointment.
I'll post more updates as I continue my recovery. I hope this is helpful to someone :)

Day 7: Cast Removal
NeevieNovember 10, 2020
***WARNING the last photo in this set shows my nose without skin on it***
What a day! I got my cast taken off at 12pm and I'm incredibly happy with it. It was weird looking in the mirror at first like, "is that really my nose?" but after a few seconds I was delighted. I'm so thankful Dr. Saeed was on the same page with me about everything I wanted to change. I love how straight my nose is now, how I have a nice curve that blends perfectly into that pointy tip. This also sounds stupid but I LOVE how there's a little delicate shine line where light hits the tip - I've never had that before as my tip has always been bulbous. It's the little things!
I'm obsessed with the side view but the front view needs more time to grow on me I think. It's already a vast improvement from before, but my nostrils feel a little "on show". I did voice this concern with Dr. Saeed and he reassured me that once swelling subsides, the tip will drop by about 1mm and the columella will be less pronounced, and these things will improve the front view. I know I'm in good hands so I'm not too worried. Also I've seen so many people on here complain of "piggy" noses just after getting their noses done, so it seems like a common thing. Also it's only day 7, so I need to be patient. 2 days ago I couldn't even breathe out of my nose. Oh that's another thing, my breathing is amazing! The quality of my breathing feels like I have two massive holes in my face - I've never been able to get this much air through my nose my entire life.
Dr. Saeed showed me pics from surgery and described what he found inside my nose. Predictably, my tip had barely anything holding it up (see attached photo), which was why it was such a blobby mess. My septum was incredibly short and not only did I have a deviated septum, but Dr. Saeed found a nasty surprise in the form of a septal lump obstructing one of my nostrils (which explains why breathing was so difficult). For my ear cartilage graft, Dr. Saeed measured my ears and took from the bigger ear. He then piled 4 layers of graft on top of each other to form my desired tip.
At the actual appointment, Dr. Saeed took out my stitches which I barely even felt, cleaned inside my nose and removed all the crusts, taught me how to massage my nose 3x a day, and I've arranged a Facetime with him in 2 weeks time.
Very happy! Have attached more pics of my old nose as I kept talking about my nose "blobbing" into my lip when I smiled but didn't have anything to show you. I have also attached close-ups of my lip lift scar so I can see if there is any scar improvement at the end of this (even though that would just be a bonus and not expected at all).
I'll update in 2 weeks!

Day 8: Quick update!
NeevieNovember 11, 2020
Yesterday I was a little concerned that my nostrils were too on show and "piggy" looking from the front view, however today I am delighted to see the columella (the part dividing my nostrils) has reduced in swelling a little bit and tucked itself in more, meaning my nostrils are a bit more hidden as a result. Yay!
I've noticed that there is more swelling on the right side of my nose (your left). All along that side is pretty painful to touch and you can see more bruising on that side too. That side of my nose was the most curved (deviated septum) so it's possible that the spreader graft has to work harder at keeping that side straight maybe, and that's why it's more swollen? Or maybe it's because I had to get a septal lump removed on that side. Who knows.
It's a bit jarring as I'm wondering where my lovely symmetrical nose has gone! I need to remind myself it's only day 8, and swelling will come and go in different areas.
I know it's much too early to see the final result, but I have a good feeling.

Hello
I know how you feel its a trauma to do a revision. Is your nose straight now?
Please could you show a pic of your nostril and columella to see if its better than before.
Thanks, i hope your nose will be beautiful!

Heya! I will be posting more pics tomorrw, the 2 week mark :) My nose definitely isn't straight yet! I had spreader grafts put in to make my overall nose straighter, and one side has swollen up more. It's definitely going down though. I have regained feeling in the bridge of my nose in the past few days, so hopefully that's a sign the swelling is leaving.
Mt tip/nostrils/columella are still completely numb and super swollen. My columella looks fat and weird, and I have one skinny nostril and one big nostril. I'm trying not to panic as it's too early for that, but it does freak me out when I look in the mirror sometimes! My upper lip is still swollen too, so that could be pulling the columella to one side or something, idk. I'll post pics tomorrow x

It’s looking great already! Keep us updated on the progress please. I’ve had two rhinoplasties and looking for a revision surgeon as my nostrils are completely different shapes now. And when smiling my nose droops down and looks different from both angles...

Hi Ana, thank you so much! I will post more pics tomorrow as we reach the 2 week mark, yay. I'm so sorry you've been through a bad rhinoplasty twice :( Once is hard enough to deal with. I would seriously recommend you arrange a consultation with Dr. Saeed as your problems seem similar to mine. My nose also looked different from both angles, nose drooped when smiling, different nostril shapes (I also had a deviated septum!) Obviously I'm not a surgeon but it sounds like you have the exact same problem as me, where a previous surgeon took out too much cartilage leaving you with little support. If Dr. Saeed can fix my nose I'm sure he'll be able to help you with yours. Don't lose hope x

Wow my problems sounds like the problems you had! I will book a consultation with him when he starts the face to face again! Thank you so much for posting your progress. It looks like swelling as it’s a revision. It’s so reassuring when people post their progress as it gives people a real idea of what swelling can do and how patience is key. Looking forward to all you future updates. It’s been a rough journey for me and I’ve even had therapy because of it. I hope to get it sorted soon so I can move on with my life. Thanks once again for posting your two week update!

Our noses really do sound similar. You're welcome, I will keep posting so you can follow the progress! You're probably right about it being revision swelling.. It's just hard.. like I know it's only 2 weeks and it's early days, but I have so much emotion and trauma attached to this that I panic sometimes when I see my wonky columella. I just hope it all turns out okay. Sorry for rambling! I hope your therapy helped and I hope my review helps you as well! x

Hi, I can't wait to see your next update! Are you in the IG surgery community because I'd love to be able to follow your account and talk with you. I'm considering this surgeon for my revision, and your review has made me very keen! Your nose looks beautiful! Very helpful review. I hope you can continue with the updates :)
