Amazing Surgeon, Amazing Person!

I'm so happy I made the decision to have cosmetic surgery at this point in my life and with Dr. Byun. He is truly amazing. I am 50 years old and was struggling with extra under eye skin, lack of symmetry between the two sides of my face (due to having Bell's palsy when I was 16 years old) and general age related issues.

I had a midface (muscle) lift in conjunction with lower blepharoplasty and temple lift. My picture is from my 2 month visit with Dr. Byun. I'm holding my ipad with a pre-surgery pic so you can see the difference.

Let me start with why I chose Dr. Byun after spending a lot of time researching surgeons in the area.

1. His supportive and patient demeanor - Dr. Byun spent a lot of time with me in consultation answering questions and discussing recommendations. I never felt rushed. I visited him several times prior to making a commitment and each time I left feeling very comfortable. Being an engineer and analytical by nature combined with a fear of the unknown, I must have had 100 questions for Dr. Byun (and I'm not exaggerating!). I felt like a pest but Dr. Byun never made me feeling like I was bothering him. He patiently answered every question in person, via email or via text. Each time he encouraged me to continue to ask more questions! He genuinely wanted me to feel comfortable with everything prior to surgery and he was successful.

2. His abilities - Dr. Byun has done over 10,000 facial surgeries! He also has quite a background in research and innovation in the field. You can find more information about this on his page. His experience was a big factor in my choice but his before and after pictures sealed the deal for me. His after pictures are truly unbelievable and show his experience and artistic ability. People look so much younger and more beautiful without looking like they had anything cosmetically done and they don't look stretched or too tight. I looked at many other before and after pictures from other surgeons. In some cases, you can barely tell that anything had been done. In other cases, they look very different. Dr. Byun's pictures were consistent.

My surgery and post surgery experience has gone well.

1. One of my biggest fears was being nauseous and in pain after surgery. I must have read a thousand reviews ranging from people having no pain at all to "don't let them fool you, this was very painful". I had no pain. I never felt nauseous. I had minor bruising and swelling (of which I'm still waiting to fully dissipate). Related to pain relievers, I took one Norco when I left the surgery center then switched that night to Tylenol for a few more days.

2. After giving you very detailed recovery instructions, Dr. Byun provides you with his personal cell phone number and tells you to text or call if needed. He responds quickly if you reach out to him. He is just as patient after the surgery in visits as he was prior.

A couple things I have learned spending time investigating, reading about other people's experiences and based on my own experience:

1. Expect improvement but don't expect perfection. These surgeons are human. If you chose a skilled one, you will be impressed with the outcome but don't expect to look perfect.

2. Be patient with healing. Every body is different and healing is not uniform. You will see bumps and changes occurring as your body heals. Don't freak out with each change but be aware of what can go wrong and when you should consult with your doctor. Follow recovery instructions. Don't start smoking or jumping around right away, for example, and expect the outcome to be favorable.

3. Investigate your doctor. Read the reviews carefully. I saw many great reviews for Dr. Byun but a couple negative ones as well. I spent some time on the negatives. I saw complaints on price. No offense but when it comes to my face, I will pay more for a better surgeon with more experience and artistic ability. I saw a complaint about Dr. Byun not being patient and supportive. For this, I went on my own experience and based on my experience I cannot understand how this review is possible. Dr. Byun has been the most patient and supportive doctor I have had in my almost 51 years of life.
