I recently underwent a double eyelid procedure with Dr. Byun, and I couldn't be happier with the results. After meeting with five different doctors for consultations, I ultimately chose Dr. Byun, and it was absolutely the right decision. His experience, professionalism, and the holistic method he presented made him stand out. He explained that unlike other surgeons who typically focus on just cutting skin and fat away, he would also be manipulating the muscle behind the eyelid to achieve a more natural look with longer-lasting results. This approach gave me confidence that I would get results that not only looked great immediately but would hold up over time—something that other methods didn't seem to offer. I also liked that he is super knowledgeable in all areas of the face and has many years of experience in reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery and scientific research and teaching. Additionally, he listened really well to understand my perspective and address my questions/concerns. I'll admit, the cost of surgery with Dr. Byun was significantly higher than other surgeons' quotes I received, but after much deliberation, I realized when it comes to your face, I don’t think cutting corners is worth it. And I have no regrets spending the amount I did for this surgery. From the high quality customer service to the exciting surgical results - I had an absolutely great experience. Dr. Byun’s bedside manner was fantastic. He took the time to meet with me and my mom right before the surgery to answer any final questions, calm any nerves, and go over the procedure in detail. He even stopped by after the surgery to check in on me, which showed how much he truly cares about his patients' well-being. Bedside manner is extremely important to me, so I really appreciate Dr. Byun's level of effort here. His team was also incredible—super responsive when I had questions post-op and always there to reassure me during my recovery. The care they provided made the entire experience that much smoother. Most importantly, I cannot emphasize enough how KIND all the nurses and Byun's staff are! I felt so cared for. The healing process was annoying and uncomfortable. A LOT of swelling and it was a bit painful to open my eyes, especially during the first week post op. My eyelids were tender for a few months. But I knew to expect many of these things during recovery. Having a good family/friend support system and medical team made a huge difference. Also, patience is key! Dr. Byun's approach to the consultation and follow-up appointments was collaborative, thorough and informative. As someone who’s passionate about learning more about the face, body, skin etc, I truly appreciated how Dr. Byun took the time to not only answer my questions but also share his knowledge! He made me feel comfortable and empowered in my decision-making. I loved that none of my appointments ever felt rushed, and each visit was an opportunity to learn something new about the face, the skin, and the art of plastic surgery. That said, I do think it’s important to keep realistic expectations when it comes to plastic surgery. No one’s face or body is perfectly symmetrical, and neither was mine before the procedure. My eyes might not be exactly symmetrical, but they were never perfectly symmetrical to begin with nor are other parts of my body and face - and that’s okay! I’m very happy with my results because they feel natural and true to who I am—just enhanced. Ultimately, perfection isn’t the goal, enhancement and naturalness are, and Dr. Byun nailed it! On a personal side note: I had been considering this procedure for 10+ years and I am so glad I pulled the trigger on it. No more stressing about figuring out how to do makeup on eyes where half the makeup gets buried under extra skin and the eyelashes point down, no more fussing over eye glue or eye tape, no more constantly looking tired, no more frustration about my eyes feeling droopy. This procedure has felt unexpectedly life-changing. I never realized how much mental energy and stress I put into my eyes until I had this procedure. It’s truly as if a weight has been lifted off of me. Now, I have so much more mental energy to focus on other things, and I feel more confident than I ever imagined I would. Even my mom and friends who were initially very skeptical about the procedure, have been so impressed with the results calling Dr. Byun an "artist." That’s the level of expertise and finesse he brings to his work! Overall, Dr. Byun has exceeded my expectations, and I am beyond thrilled with the results. If you are considering any eyelid or facial procedure, I highly recommend him. His bedside manner, expertise/experience in everything plastic surgery, and commitment to delivering the best results make him an outstanding surgeon. Thank you, Dr. Byun, for giving me a beautiful, natural look that I’ll enjoy for years to come!
Dr BYUN and staff are beyond! My friend and I went to the first consultation...as soon as we started getting to know Dr Byun I knew he was a special surgeon. His techniques make total sense and are different-cutting edge. He understood all my complicating factors-medical history of children (hEDS and TCS), trauma, cancer, stem cell transplant and really understood EVERYTHING and how for my second chance at life I wanted my outside to match my inside. Highly recommend.
After losing a lot of weight four years ago, my neck showed definite signs of sagging. At 61 years of age, my skin had gravitated downward where body fat had once held it in place. Naturally, I panicked. Did some YouTube research and found a doctor that agreed to give me a neck lift within the three-week-long holiday break I had coming up at work. I was hopeful that this would give me all the time I needed to heal, and I could return to work hiding any scarring under a Covid mask, which everyone was still required to wear at the time. I would soon come to find out that the doctor I went to was not a board-certified plastic surgeon. The evidence showed. The excess fat was gone, but the crude stitching and stapling beneath my chin and along my entire hairline was alarming. I ended up hiding the effects behind a Covid mask for four years, long after it stopped being mandatory. Luckily, a friend of mine who was an extremely satisfied patient of Dr. Michael Byun, highly recommended that I consult with him. This ended up being one of the best decisions I’ve made in my entire life. Upon walking into Chicago Cosmetic Surgery, I was impressed with how bright and cheerful the interior was, with walls covered in beautiful art that showed off Dr. Byun’s amazing work, and his many credentials and achievements. It was so much more inviting and promising than the bleak bare-walled offices of the doctor that had botched my surgery. Then I met his wonderful staff - Nurse Lauren, Receptionist Lindsey, and Dara the Esthetician & Patient Coordinator - and I was immediately put at ease by their warm, friendly and professional demeanors. When Dr. Byun entered the examination room, he immediately smiled at me and I removed my mask. He was so gentle and considerate; taking his time to examine and listen to my concerns. He explained to me my options, which consisted of several procedures, all done at his office, before I would be ready for the main muscle repair to correct the neck scar, mid face, and a browlift. I now feel like I have a new lease on life. I’m ready to throw away the mask and see the world that ‘ve been trying to disappear from for too many years. At the age of 65, I appreciate all that is now me and I’m no longer afraid of the aging process. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Byun, not only are you an artist and a genius, but you are also one of the kindest and most generous human beings on Planet Earth. Another huge thank you to his amazing team, for all their patience and care. If you are reading this and have any reservations about reaching out to Dr. Byun for a consultation, stop hesitating. Make the call. You won’t regret it!
My journey in restoring my face began in my late forties after my kids told me i looked angry. Looking in a mirror again and again I realized I have started looking like my late grandmother. I looked tired and unhappy. I was not aging gracefully! I found a great doctor who started injecting me with sculptra and Botox. I was one of the first sculptra patients and my face looked amazing. However after injecting for 15 years, I found myself with an aging sagging face and eyes. My face lost its definition and just looked shapeless and round. My doctor told me there is nothing else she could do. I was about to accept this verdict because the alternative would be a face lift. I thought I would never have a facelift. The reason being that majority of women that I have seen after their face lift, looked like a stretched out puppet. I wasn’t happy how I looked but there was no alternatives that I could think of at the time. One day I was reading a Chicago magazine editorial on the top plastic surgeons in Chicago. I was fascinated by Dr. Byun’s method: muscle restoration first and then draping the skin over the restored muscle, instead of just stretching the skin, like a puppet face. This method totally made sense to me. After I read more about Dr. Byun and his experience in muscle restoration, I have met with Dr. Byun. I felt so completely confident in his skills that I decided to do a complete face restoration. I have never looked back. From someone who was anti plastic surgery to someone who decided to do a complete face restoration, Dr. Byun changed my perception of the procedure. Everything that comes with and after surgery was as expected from the descriptions by Dr. Byun’s staff. It was a long journey of recovery but Dr. Byun and his staff held my hand through this process and were always available to me, always kind to listen, talk, and assure, to inspire and encourage. It would not be the same without each one of the beautiful people who work with Dr. Byun. Recovery is an important part of the process because there is a lot of pain, discomfort, post surgery insecurities and fears. Through all that, I had a wholehearted knowledgeable support of Dr. Byun and his staff who always found time and attention for me whenever I had a panic attack or just needed some reassurance that I will look normal. And of course the star of the show is Dr. Byun! He is first of all an amazing human being who listens to his patients’ concerns, gives them as much time as needed and always looks out for his patient’s best interests. Dr. Byun is not only highly skilled plastic surgeon but he is also a psychologist who has wonderful bedside manners. He is friendly, kind, understanding, an attentive listener who will analyze a patient’s concerns and always explain pro and con of a particular procedure. Dr. Byun is also an artist, he understands artistic harmony, esthetics, balance and the wholistic, final effect of a surgery on a person life. This combination of skills makes him standout from the majority of surgeons. It has been almost one year after my surgery, I’m starting to feel more like myself and more! I was inspired to lose weight, to be more creative as an artist and as a lawyer. I feel more confident as a woman. Most of my life I was focusing on improving my inner self, my talents, my intellect. I thought that having a plastic surgery would be superficial and shallow. However, after Dr. Byun’s skillful surgery/restoration, I am more inspired to become a better person in all areas of my life and I feel there are no boundaries to what I can achieve. I am grateful to Dr. Byun for all his magical work and for elevating my life to a whole new unexpected level. Y.K
Doctor Byun is truly the Master of his craft. If you're looking for a genuine surgeon, who wants nothing more than to see his patients restored through his famous Facelift technique, then look no further. With over 25 years of experience and time tested results, don't trust anyone but Dr. Michael Byun to touch your face.
Dr. Byun is the master of his craft!! Detail oriented, perfectionist with extensive knowledge. He knew exactly what I wanted done without me having to tell him. From the moment I walked to his office, I knew I made the right decision. Everything from the initial consultation to surgery to after care was excellent. Dr. Byun delivered a natural, youthful, refreshed look as he promised. It has been a year since my facelift. My scars are non existent and I am loving my results !!!
I was lucky enough to have Dr Byun as my plastic surgeon. Two of my friends had previously undergone surgery by Dr Byun and they spoke very highly of their experiences. But not until I too had surgery did I see and understand what they were raving about. From the moment I met Dr Byun I felt comfortable, at ease, and confident in his talent, expertise, and artistry. I knew I had made the right decision. During the appointments prior to my surgery I approached Dr Byun with literally a list of my questions. He was so gracious, not offended nor put off by what I was asking. I’m a details person and I wanted to know exactly what to expect immediately after, and the weeks / months following my surgery. Dr Byun spent time explaining everything and went in to great detail if that’s what I wanted to hear. My surgery was in January 2021 and I am thrilled with the results to date. I understand healing takes time but looking good so soon after surgery is a bonus. Dr Byun did not change my looks - he just made me a prettier, younger-looking version of myself, which is exactly what I wanted. Dr Byun’s staff is very educated and a pleasure to work with. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr Byun, his practice, his expertise, his staff, and my surgery results. My husband says Dr Byun is a genius and I agree.
I’m writing this review giving my honest opinion about my visits with the gifted doctor Michael Byun, I’ve had consulting with a few other plastic surgeons but NEVER meet with a doctor like him: he’s extremely smart but instead of talking at you he really listens and understand what his patients really desire. He’s work is perfection, I felt so comfortable with discussing my liposuction with him, he cares about the well being of the body in general he wants you healthy and looking your best. If your reading this your clearly interested in having procedures and you want to feel comfortable and know for Sure your in good hands especially if you are going under anesthesia ( which was my main concern) let me tell, your in great hands with Dr. Byun. I am so pleased that I found him, also I’ve had Botox with him and that too went amazing because he’s technique is different than others so you don’t feel the pain. He knows the face muscles so well he explained to me exactly what he was doing and made sure I was informed with after care. Updated on 16 Feb 2021: Yulia is Amazing!! She’s extremely knowledgeable with skincare, also she does a variety of skincare treatments catered to your skin. It’s a very clean and relaxing environment; I could tell she was very comfortable with her craft in a conservative way. Taking care of the skin is a process, and I’m most definitely lucky to have found a esthetician with so much experience and knowledge. Also she KNOWS HER PRODUCTS!!! The staff is so nice and very helpful!! Every time I go Daniella is the one who takes care of me!! She definitely keeps the office going taking great care of all the clients the first one to greet you and also the last you will see, I always look forward to going to this location
Dr. Michael Byun most professional Doctor I’ve been going to for over 10 years , highly educated, talented and understanding. The staff is top class. Anyone who is looking for a specialist will be in great hands. I highly recommend Dr. Michael Byun.
I want to look my best - don't we all? I exercise, diet, keep up with the latest in skin care and beauty trends. So when it comes to finding a cosmetic surgeon I want the best too. I mean, it's pretty damn close to permanent and there is absolutely no way I'm going to leave the fate of my appearance with just anyone! Over 10 years ago, I spoke with several doctors regarding a cosmetic procedure. Not a single one of them took the time to explain process. Not a single one - other than Dr Byun. He never made me feel rushed. He never suggested additional work, in fact he talked me out of a rhinoplasty I've wanted since my teens. And he took the time to explain the science behind everything, each step and why one method would be better than another. He's not just a surgeon, this man is an artist. 10 years ago I chose Dr Byun end never regretted it. 10 years down the road I find myself ready for another procedure, and once again, did my due diligence of talking to several surgeons and once again, Dr Byun comes out ahead in each and every way. I contacted one clinic where the consultation was conducted over the phone with an assistant. Wrapping up the call, the assistant asked if she could book my surgery the following week. Flabbergasted with both the timing and the lack of doctor at the consultation, I asked her if I would meet the doctor before my procedure and she responded with "you'll meet him day of. I can take your payment for the surgery whenever you're ready." Hold up. DAY OF??? What if I'm not a suitable candidate for the surgery I want? (spoiler alert: I wasn't suitable for part of it). What if I'm not comfortable with the doctor himself? After all I will be unconscious and nakey around him. Why haven't you asked about any of my medical history and medications? And why is this doctors schedule so open? Even my tattoo artist has a 3 month wait list. This clinic was ready to see you ASAP. Was it cheaper than Dr Byun? Absolutely. Am I glad I didn't go? Also absolutely. I find it ironic how, in the pursuit of improvement or perfection we can be so quick to gloss over the safety and quality of results in favor of cheaper and faster procedures. Do yourself a favor, research your doctors, research the procedures, ask all the right questions and ask your doctors to show you their work. Not just after the surgery but months down the line. Remember that this is something fairly permanent and if it seems too good to be true it is. And if you're too busy/tired/lazy to research, I've done it for you. Dr Byun is the one - the Michelangelo of cosmetic surgery.
rhinoplasty with rib cartilage and iliac bone graft can cause a significant warping and resorption. also, it can be a big issue if there is an infection since all that put into the nose will get infected and scarred. not all autologous ( your own ) is good. silicone implant is considered foreign body but it is very friendly to human body. many heart valves and stents are made with silicone and also breast implant outer shell is made of same materials as in rhinoplasty implants. you can remove implant easily if there is an infection, and it comes out easily ( infected rib and cartilage, bone graft do not come out easily, surgeon has to rip or dissect tissues). Most of surgeons perform rhinoplaty with open technique ie, cutting the base of the nose called collumella. this part heals irregularly no matter who does the surgery, and it adds another scar outside and inside. Skilled rhinoplaty surgeon should know how to perform cosmetic rhinoplasty with closed technique without interrupting the base of the collumella, but rather approaches from the inside of the nose . always ask if they do 'closed rhinoplasty'. It offers many superior qualities compared to that of open technique. for the question, No , i don't recommend putting fillers next to the implant since each needle penetration has a risk of introducing the skin bacteria. you may need a customized implant that tapers smoothly from the nasion to the dorsum of the nose ( top of nose bridge that touches globella area. I hope this will be helpful to many who are looking for nose surgery since above is very essentials of 101 to plastic surgery fellows as well!
All qualified plastic surgeons can perform facelift well, but make sure to see their before and after. we all do surgery differently. Also, it is important to define the reason why you are interested in facelift; droopy neck or tired look? do you want to look different? ( most of our patients do not want to look different), but want to look younger, refreshed, youthful? ( most of our patients fit into this category). but often after surgery photos look too natural but they don't look any better. that's why it is very important to see the work of individual surgeons to appreciate their work visually, yes they should look natural , but much younger or youthful. patients often are confused by the techniques of face lift or the naming of the procedures; SMAS, deep plane lift, skin lift, muscle lift , vertical lift, string lift, mini lift, midfacelift and often fancy names like Hollywood lift, celebrity lift. Most of the well qualified plastic surgeons do all of the above all or combinations of the above. that's why it is important to see their work, did the mean face appearance disappear? did the expression brightened? do they look younger? does your eye appreciate the changes? One should assume all the plastic surgeons went to good programs and they are in good standing (most of them are), you should choose who would be the best plastic surgeon by reviewing their work visually. that's why we call this "art of medicine', especially it is true for plastic surgery and yes, this is your face!
The reason that you aren't having the result you were hoping for is that the neck was not pulled vertically. Any time you pull the neck sideways, it becomes the dominant force, which causes the skin of the upper neck below the chin to bulge outward. I rely on the vertical neck lift, in which the skin and the muscle below the chin and above the Adam's apple is returned to the face and not pulled outward toward the back of the ear. This creates a much more natural outcome.
The neck skin above the Adam's apple ( voice box, laryngeal prominence) belongs to the face. This part of the neck needs to be lifted north, vertically. The traditional neck lift that uses incisions behind the ear will pull the neck in the wrong direction. Often that tightens the bottom part of the neck too much, so that when you look downward, the skin will bulge outward. The solution is to perform a vertical neck lift, which will give that part of the skin back to the face as opposed to pulling outward.
