Not Worth It

I waited 2.5 months to write this review hoping for improvement or some sort of reimbursement or other helpful offer from the injecting doctor, but neither occurred.

I came in for undereye and cheek filler after a virtual consult to address genetic dark circles and facial aging after watching the doctors videos on YouTube.

The Doctor and staff were professional and friendly, the office was very clean and easy to get to by car. They were prompt with communication and helpful with scheduling.

However, I regret this procedure as now I have a bag under my right eye, and I still have dark circles and Tyndall affect (as stated by the doctors I've consulted with in Oregon, post procedure). I flew across the country and rented a car for the procedure, another $600 on the flight, hotel, and rental car on top of the $4000 for the injections.

I was not shown my face in a mirror when the procedure was over. I was there from 10am to after 12pm. The injections themselves took only a few minutes, but the doctor seemed very busy and was with other patients during the time I was there, then immediately went intonsurgery following my injections, per his staff.

I believed the filler in my cheeks would be placed differently- I had not meant to have more defined cheekbones, but had thought based on our discussions and the markings on my face prior to injecting that the filler would be placed differently to address my concerns. The injections themselves felt rushed.

Post procedure I was in communication with the doctor and his scheduling coordinator on a regular basis to discuss my results. They were always both pleasant. The doctor prescribed steroids first, then massage to address what he believed was an allergic reaction or swelling. While I was on steroids the swelling did decrease somewhat but I now have a noticeable bag under my right eye, which I do not have to state is not a positive outcome.

The doctor stated thag this is extremely rare for him and that he would address the situation by dissolving the filler, if I was back in New York, but that is not possible for me at this time and would cost further money, and $4000+ would be for nothing. I do not have the money for these types of things, but thought based on the videos that this would be a long lasting solution and fairly simple way to fix an issue impacting my self image. Unfortunately it has had the opposite effect.

If I had been offered a refund on the portion that did not work out, I would have been satisfied as I understand things happen and this was in his words a rare occurence- no one's fault. But I cannot reccomend this procedure at this office based on my experience, it is too risky for the amount of money and I'd you are traveling from out of town and complications arise you will be out of luck or have to return.

I had better results with a $600 injection last year. More money does not always equal a better outcome, as I had thought.

I have not decided what to do about this yet, long term. I am very disappointed though.

Response from Dr. Prasad:
My objective is to help patients look their best and have a positive experience. I don't benefit if a patient is disappointed. Regardless of the procedure, a minority of patients will react in unexpected ways, which can be frustrating. My staff and I do everything we can to help my patients should any issues occur. We want patients to continue to communicate so we can manage any issue as best as possible. I encourage anyone who has concerns to contact us and I'm always ready to do what I can.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. Hope you find a resolution to the complication. I am considering traveling to New York for the fillers, upper eye lid surgery. Was 4,000 just for under eye filler? Did you have anything else done?
Thanks again!

Sorry, my response went elsewhere. I had filler injected into my cheeks and under my eyes.

Wait, I’m confused. You flew across the country just for undereye/cheekbone (mid face) filler that was $4k? And the filler he used was Juvederm?

This is so confusing. I agree with you that your results are disappointing; I know they didn’t offer a refund, but have you asked for one?

Further, were you aware that Juvederm only lasts 6-9 months? Did he use Voluma in your cheeks? This is really baffling—how many syringes did he use that it cost $4k?? Also, a plastic surgeon in Oregon (which I assume is where you’re from) could dissolve the filler for you and it wouldn’t be very expensive.

I’m originally from Oregon but live in the Bay Area now. I’ve had surgical procedures in both areas. Feel free to send me a message if you want suggestions on who to/not see. There is, in my mind, absolutely no reason to fly across the country to have temporary filler injected. (As an aside, I’ve found that the doctors with the biggest social media/YouTube presence tend to have poorer outcomes than doctors who rely solely on word of mouth for patients).

As you can see, I still have dark circles/undereye hollowness. The filler is plainly visible under my eye. This did not "migrate" from the tear trough, it is where it was placed. Cheek filler which was meant to correct volume loss instead used to augment cheekbones. This was not what we discussed.

I'm so sorry that you also had the Tyndall effect after filler. I had poor filler placement back in 2017 and it's still visible under my eyes in 2021. Sadly the only way to get rid of the blue hue/ridge from the filler is to dissolve it or wait it out, which can take many many years. I hope that the doctor at least partially refunds you, part of being a good doctor is owning up to ones own mistakes and not blame shifting onto the patient. It is clear that the filler was not placed correctly and the tydall effect is nearly impossible to cover even with heavy makeup.

Thank you so much for understanding. I do feel like the poor results were dismissed with thr excuse that "rare things happen". It's not right that we as the consumer bear the brunt of such circumstances. If it's truly rare for this to happen, offering a refund (at least on the eyes) would be reasonable.

A very expensive mistake

This was a very, very expensive mistake. People have contacted me privately to ask if I think they should reconsider. I cannot tell anyone what they should do with their own body, but I can say this- I wish I had never gotten these injections and I would absolutely not do it again.
My concerns were not addressed. Further, the problem was exacerbated by the filler, as there is now an undereye bag AND hollows between my cheeks and eyes. It is objectively clear from the photos that not only was the $4000+ "not worth it", it actually made me look worse.
If you look at my other reviews you can see I never had a bag or puffiness under my eyes before.
They warn you of the side effects but reassure you of their skill and how that hardly ever happens, or they will "just dissolve it".
If it is truly as rare as they say, an ethical practitioner with integrity would offer to make it right, no matter what, knowing it is not their fault and feeling a sense of responsibility for what they have done to your face. There does not need to be blame or ugliness. I am saddened at these circumstances. It is not just the money, it is the trust, not to mention the vanity that brings one in in the first place, only to have the condition worsened, lose the money, and have to endure the difficulty of having to accept a flaw you didn't have to begin with.
I simply cannot say this was "worth it", nor reccomend this procedure at this office based on my outcome.

I cannot believe this surgeon did not offer to fix it. You should not have to just accept result you're not happy with. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

The surgeon said that if I flew back to New York from the West Coast he would dissolve it, but that he would not be able to refill it at that time. I would not like him to refill it.

I am also not satisfied with the offer to dissolve it alone. Then I have paid $4000+ and flown across the country 2x for nothing.

Surgeons treat dissolving filler like its nothing and totally safe but it is not. Just like his comment above, "some patients react in unexpected ways", there are stories and reviews on this website that show dissolving filler resulted in side effects and disfigurement.

I don't understand how this surgeon can continue not taking responsibility for what they did to my face, either.
