I was diagnosed with a basal carcinoma of the cheek over 1.5 years ago. The dermatologist recommended Mohs surgery to remove it so that we could keep the defect as small as possible. He also told me that he could repair the defect following its removal. After talking to some friends I learned that it would be best to have a facial plastic surgeon reconstruct the defect because that is their area of expertise. After a lot of research I decided to have Dr. Mario Imola do the reconstruction and I am thrilled that I did. The result is essentially invisible. Dr. Imola essentially borrowed tissue from the adjacent cheek and moved it into the hole created by the Mohs surgery. I would recommend a facial plastic surgeon to anyone who needs reconstruction after removal of skin cancer on the face by a dermatologist.

Dr. Imola was very caring and thorough. He explained all of the options to repair the defect and what to expect afterwards. It is well over a year and you can't even tell anything was done.
