Day by Day with Kybella

I had a submental pouch of fat under my soft palate, so not a double chin as such. I was excited to try Kybella as my daughters wedding is coming up in August and I want to look my best. The clinician assessed me and we discussed if maybe with the structure of my area it might leave sagging skin. I did NOT want this and appreciated her honesty. She double checked with another staff member who assured her no I’d be an ideal candidate and would probably only need one vial. It seemed totally worth doing so I signed off on one vial. I swelled up like a bullfrog, jiggling sensation and all. I had to wear scarves up to my chin for over a week as the obvious swelling subsided. I’d been told swelling is good, it’s what we want, it means the chemicals are working. I’ve included pictures to date. My concern currently is that tomorrow marks the three week mark and I look exactly the same as before. I know they say ‘it can take more than one treatment’. I get that, but should I expect SOME change? Perhaps I’ve not given it enough time (though it does seem to have stopped changing altogether). Do I go ahead and fork out fir skin tightening therapy and more kybella (neither of which I can really afford). My face is not shown not due to vanity...but I also had surgical mole to cal on my chin so I have stitches in my face!! I’d love to hear from anyone who has had a similar experience to how I feel now. Did yours get better over time? If so, how long? Also, does it look like I need skin tightening therapy instead of kybella? If so which one works fastest. I almost wish at this point that I hadn’t started.

I have been told by litterly everyone that it takes more than one treatment. Have you had any negative side effects or regrets from your first round?
June 23, 2019
No, it’s still a little sore though. I wish my clinician had told me that! She did say it usually would take more than one ho around but felt I wouldn’t need it and I asked her ‘ok, so it might take more than one round, but after just one there would be SOME improvement? ‘ I mean, that seemed to stand to reason and said ‘yes’. Maybe it’s just not done changing yet. I’ve seen some online posts where people have had one and that’s all so fingers crossed!!

Thanks. I'm freaking out right now because I stupidly went online and looked how some people have gotten disfigured, saggy skin etc. I'm 5 days out and regretting I did this because I'm afraid of the results. I'm hoping I stay the same at this point because I don't want a deformity. Thanks for telling me you don't have any advertise effects and you don't regret it. Makes me feel a tiny bit better.

Five days is very early. The worse stories I’ve seen are mostly just wasting money because there’s no change. This is your first treatment? I will say this, the first two weeks I couldn’t show my neck.. I had that huge jiggly lump under my chin and for a while there I actually worried it wasn’t going to go! It did, now I don’t feel the need to wear scarves. So I feel your pain! I too was panicking I’d just made it worse lol those websites that say ‘swelling gone in 48hrs’ that’s so unrealistic!! Got to be something providers are saying to get people to do it. Pretty much what I’m gathering is expect to be in trauma and wondering wtf you’ve done fir four weeks. Then reassess. I get the whole ‘you may need more than one treatment’ thing but I’m going to feel pretty narked if I just spent under a grand for no change as they knew I was not going back fir a second. This was just to be in time for my daughters wedding. In retrospect I wish I had liposuction. It’s one and done. Better than this waiting around chin gazing !

Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you overnight it looks like the kybella is beginning to work! I’ll post more photos next Monday. So, don’t panic. I didn’t think mine was going to get ANY better. Maybe it’s wishful thinking lol we’ll see but don’t panic!

And the results with that are guaranteed

Hi Dana, I went for this treatment too same area as most women ( double chin, fatty chin - whatever you want to call it) and was told I should see results etc after 4 weeks, but I was told it may take more than 1 - normally 4 -6. Ok so after the 1 treatment and going through the whole jelly wobble bull frog neck at the end - No change. So I go back and am reassured it takes time etc - so after 4 treatments and only a small amount of change where - yes- I now have that crepe skin look in a small area under my chin/neck area. In my honest opinion if I were to be asked - What a Waste of Money - and after all this - poor results - I am then told that if the Fat is deep deep down - Kybella will not work. So I guess my fat must be deeps down in my under chin area. I do hope you receive a better result but from what I have learned it can take up to 8 treatments and the results will be minimal and that being the case I guess I should have tried Lipo or Fat Freeze or the new Fat Melting treatments - so far the only treatment that appears to give a real result is Lipo . Good Luck and I hope your daughters wedding day is Amazing.

Dana, I read about your experience & I want to share with you MY experience. In Feb. I had one vial split between my jowls (I know that sounds so gross!!), my face was so HIDEOUS for almost 2 weeks I didn’t even want to look in the mirror! I swear to you between 3 & 4 weeks, the area finally receded (?), and my face looked slimmer, I was beyond thrilled that there was SOME difference. I did a 2nd treatment, one more vial for the jowls and 2 for the submental area, it looked fantastic, unfortunately I didn’t take photos or I would show you. So this is what I do believe to be true, I think there HAS to be some improvement, even from one vial because it’s destroying those fat cells. The NP who administered my injections told me that the submental area usually does need more Kybella compared to the jowls, for example. I do kind of think it’s rare for only 1 treatment to produce optimal results (& from my research most people get at least 2 vials for the submental area). However, I don’t want to discourage you. I CAN see an improvement already in your photos & seems like you’re a “sweller” like I am, so I think it takes longer for us to see results. I am 45 y/o & was also told about possible skin laxity but hun I’m telling you, my skin retracted, a lot more than I thought it would!! Sorry this is getting so long but at least for ME, this Kybella has changed my LIFE, I feel so much more confident it’s incredible (& no I do not work for them!! :). I’m so happy w/ it, I still come back & read reviews to see other people’s experiences. I’m not saying that I’m an expert but if you have any questions I can try to answer them. Oh, one more thing, my first treatment, about 2 1/2 weeks in, it was like some fat had dissolved but my skin hadn’t retracted back yet & my jowls were hanging all of a sudden & I was PANICKING! I thought, I need to rob a bank & get a face lift ASAP! But within like 48 hrs. the skin tightened up & it was amazing. I understand it’s expensive but it’s been so worth it to me. Please post again after a month so we can see :)

Thank you. This gives me hope! I will post photos for sure next week at the four week mark. I’ve made a conscious decision not to look until then! Lol

Thank you so so much for commenting. It does seem like maybe today for the first time it looks like it might be getting better :-)
July 1, 2019
Thank you for posting :-) I did know that fir most it takes two but it stands to reason surely that there would be some improvement? Instead I may have a worse situation than I started with :-/

I think you are like all of us and with different angles it looks different and we panic. Just remember, it doesn't look any worse to me at all so it's probably the angle. Hang in there and just be glad you are not having medical problems are super huge swelling problems like some people have had. I guess we have to count our blessings.

Some improvement?

danal2012
Undated photo us today. I THINK there’s improvement. I’d appreciate your opinions. Traceyanimallover, I hope seeing these helps :-) it seemed like over a twenty four hour period the swelling just decided to speak up?! Now it feels like that pouch that was there and bothered me...it seems flatter

May have been a bit ahead of myself

danal2012
Actually, in the interest of honesty, I think I was being a bit ahead of myself that day. It seems the same as before :-( I mean, if you see a change please do tell me. It’s four weeks today and if anything it’s the same as before if not a little worse :-(

You very well may see more improvement over the next 2-3 weeks. When I did mine, it took 2 weeks for the initial swelling to go back down to my baseline. Then, it wasn't until about the 6th week that I finally saw noticeable results. I wrote a review with photos and follow-ups a couple years ago. I did 2 vials, 2 times, and all in all it was about 6 months total time to reach my final results. Hang in there! Here's hoping you feel better about it after a bit more time.

I am in misery on day 12. My throat is killing me and my neck hurts (I think from straining not to move much). I am just so terrified about what I will look like when this is all over and if I will have permanent damage.
July 1, 2019
Thank you for posting this. My daughter gets married August 3rd and if this doesn’t change I’ll be going there with a bigger problem than I started with. One question, it’s still sort of sore over the injectable area. Is this normal? I’m hoping it means it hasn’t finished it’s work

I was tender in a couple spots for close to a month. The discomfort lessened more with each passing week. When I did the second round, almost 3 months later, it was a lot less painful and the swelling went down much faster.
