I've never had major issues with acne growing up...

I've never had major issues with acne growing up but I would get a few pimples here and there. About 2 years ago I decided to stop taking birth control and my acne decided it wanted to show up and show out! Along with stopping birth control and using the wrong make-up, my face was HORRIBLE! I was so insecure it was unbelievable. I hated looking at myself in the mirror...I hate having to wear make-up just to make a store run...I hated turning down dates because I knew my blemishes would still show no matter how much foundation I used. People will never understand how you feel when they're not the one with the issue. I've tried several medications and face products but nothing has officially worked. My doctor suggested Accutane and of course my family and friends tried to talk me out of taking it due to the side effects. I decided that either I'm going to give it a go and pray that it works or I'm going to walk around the rest of my life being insecure. I decided to start Accutane for ME. Fyi: The pictures posted isn't the worst my face has been. My face has actually cleared up since my last extreme breakout but I keep getting pimples that's stopping my face from being 100% clear.

Day 5

Day 5 and I'm finally starting to feel a little dryness on my face. My lips feel normal due to me always keeping them moisturized. I have felt a little shoulder discomfort and have had a few white heads pop up. Anyone have any advice for a good face/body/lip moisturizer? I'd like to start moisturizing my face and body as soon as possible.

Face becoming darker/redder

I've been taking 60mg a day of Accutane for almost 2 weeks and I've notice that my face has gotten 2 to 3 shades darker. The rest of my body hasn't change only my face...is this normal??? I've been wearing spf15 and recently bought spf50 but I hardly ever go into the sun...my most sun exposure is when I'm driving. Please help! Will my normal color return?

Initial Breakout after 18 days?

I had a few pimples come up on my checks and forehead, nothing too major but I'm guessing that was my initial breakout. My acne wasn't horrible to begin with so I wasn't expecting my ib to be too extreme. Is it too early to experience an ib after 18 days on the medication? How long do you have to be on accutane to have your ib? I pray that was my ib!!! No more pimples please...

1st month completed!!!

Hello everyone! :) I finally completed my first month of Accutane! My blood results were fine but my doctor decided to keep me on 60mg per day. She also told me I'll be on Accutane for another 5 months (6 months total). I have experienced joint discomfort in my right hip and my shoulders but nothing unbearable. My doctor did tell me I could take Tylenol for the discomfort. I have had a few breakouts since starting the medicine but it's nothing I'm not use to. My skin has become a little redder, as you can see in the photos, but it's not too bad. My face stills blends with the color of my body. My lips....DRY! But nothing a little vasline cant handle! I've been using cetaphil daily moisturizer spf 50 for my face...GREAT STUFF! I'm excited to see what my 2nd month on Accutane will be like. Wish me luck!

So I'm currently at the doctors for my two month checkup! 2 months down...4 more to go (60 mg). I started reminiscing on how bad my face use to be and how insecure I was. I'm still dealing with a little insecurity but it's not as bad as it use to be. The picture posted is a few months before I started Accutane. My face has improved drastically since then and Accutane has definitely helped. I'm grateful! My face hasn't been this clear in years! I'm soooo excited to see the end result of this long process! ????????

My arms and back are starting to become really dry...has anyone else experienced this?

Did my blood work on Friday (the results were good) and I was told that I had to pick up my medicine by Thursday. I went to the pharmacy Tuesday and they told me they haven't recieved anything from my doctor. I've been calling my doctor constantly...and the medicine still has not been sent to the pharmacy. I'm really upset because it's such an inconvenience!!! Today is Thursday and If I don't start my medicine today I'm going to be pissed to the MAX because I'll have to do my blood work over again and I refuse to pay another $40 copay and for the blood test! Grrrrrrr....I'm on the verge of losing my cool! I'm too far in the process to start over!!!!!!

It seems like no matter how much sleep I get, I feel so exhausted! At first I didn't think much of it until today. Last night I got 7 hours of sleep and today my energy level is a 40 out of 100! Cappuccino might become my new best friend thanks to Accutane!

I'm still hanging in there...

It's been a while since I've posted, but yes I'm still on Accutane 60mg per day. I haven't had a pimple in over a month. Yaayyyyy!!! I have had a few nose bleeds...horrible nose bleeds! My face is still rosey red, I'm guessing it's because accutane makes your skin thinner than normal. I wear sunscreen daily 30 spf. One major issue that just started a couple of days ago...DRY LIPS. My lips have been dry for months now but recently they became A LOT dryer. So dry to the point that they're cracking, puffy, and have very very small blister bumps. Trust me...I have NO medical issues. I'm 100% healthy and not sexually active. I google it and found that other people on accutane have experienced the same thing. It's very uncomfortable. I'm surprised my lips have gotten this bad because I always keep them moisturized! The photo I attached is EXACTLY what is happening to my lips. :( Any advice?

I took these pictures a few days ago after washing my face...Fresh face! They were also taken before my lips broke out.

2 Months Left!!!

So I had my doctors apt today. I'm at the end of my 4th month! Woo whoo!!! I can't wait for this to be over! I told my doctor about the issue with my lips. She said that it's perfectly normal and can happen while on Accutane (Beware!!!). Since then my lips look completely normal...They actually look better than before the break out. I'm still getting nose bleeds. Not too many headaches or body aches *knocks on wood*. My doctor told me my skins looks really good and has improved a lot. As far as the discoloration, it can be treated after I'm done with Accutane. She also told me that the goal is to have NO breaks during my last month of treatment. Wish me luck!

I Lost A Pack Of My Miracle Pills! Oops...

So Accutane is officially my MIRACLE pill! I haven't had a breakout in months! I'm loving it...I've finally finished my 5th month YAYYYYY! BUT I did lose a pack of pills in the process. I told my doctor and she said that it'll be fine and it shouldn't affect my end results. Good Deal! I have had some dry spots form on top of my hands over these few months...I told my doctor and she gave me some medication to apply if the dry patches start to form again. My face and lips are still extremely dry! My lips have also done a lot of pilling. In the morning I always exfoliate them with my toothbrush. Lately I haven't had any nose bleeds or joint discomfort. These 5 months have flown by and were well worth it. If I continue to not have any breakouts, this will be my last month on Accutane. As you can see from the picture my face has improved drastically!!! ;)

Irritation On Hands

I just wanted to show y'all how the irritation has been forming on the top of my hands over the past few months.

1St: The top of my hand start feelings sensitive
2nd: Red marks form on top of the sensitivity
3rd: Small scabs forms on top of that
4th: After scabs falls off, dark spots are left which eventually fade away.

As I stated from my previous post, my derm gave me medicine to apply once the sensitivity starts to form. She also told me that the irritation is due to being on Accutane.

Where has time gone? I can't believe I only have 5 days left on Accutane. I'll be going to the door in 2 days for my last check up regarding Accutane. My doctor told me I have to give one more blood sample to make sure everything is still okay with my liver. Now I just hope and pray life after Accutane is just as successful and that I get my normal skin color back. As I mentioned before, I've gotten darker even to the point of changing my makeup but of course smooth clear skin was my goal! Now I have clear skin...with a little tan! Lol I feel like my skin discoloration will be a easy fix! Hopefully....

1 month post accutane

Hello everyone! I just wanted to update everyone...I've officially been off accutane almost 1 month. The moisture in my lips have returned and also the color. On accutane my lips were a pinkish color and now they're brown like before accutane. It took roughly 1.5 to 2 weeks for the moisture in my lips to return. My face is still dry but not as dry while I was on accutane. I have had two very tiny bumps come up on my left cheek but NO PIMPLES thank God! They were kind of like small oil bumps. My only issue now is my hyperpigmentation UGH! My forehead and around my mouth are darker than my cheeks. I'm too scared to try fading cream because I'm scared I'll break out again. Chemical peels are out the question...they sound too harsh! My doctor prescribed me some retin-a that I can use 30 days after being off accutane but I'm scared of trying that too lol. I'd hate for my skin to start peeling and continue to still be super sensitive to the sun. I'm considering letting time take its course, no chemical products and keeping sunscreen on. Any other advice? Will drinking more water help? Also is there any advance on lightening my lips?
