I'm on tray 5 of 52 of invisalign, and I've noticed a lot of differences between my treatment plan and what is typical, so I've decided to write a review/blog. For example I was told to change my aligners weekly, and need two years+ of treatment, when I subjectively feel that my teeth aren't that bad! I would love advice/feedback from other experiences!

Will send a proper update shortly (once I figure out the review system!)

I would not recommend this provider of invisalign. I was given an estimate of a one year treatment, and ended up in treatment for three years. A lot of this was due to unacceptable waiting times, or very poorly planned visits. For example I was told to make an appointment to get my attachments de-bonded, waited 5 weeks for said appointment, and when I went in Dr O'Leary looked at my teeth and said ok great they are ready for de-bonding, so we will make an appointment to get that done - in another 4 weeks! She also suggested a very unusual treatment plan (e.g. wearing each aligner for one week rather than two, which I suspect contributed to my longer than expected treatment plan). She does not discuss the treatment plan with you and always is rushing in and out of the room before and after the appointment so it is very difficult to discuss this with her, though she is friendly when you do get to speak to her. I will say that all of the staff in this clinic are very friendly and Dr O'Leary is very gentle, so if you are a nervous patient or a child it might suit you. However I would not recommend coming here if you are an adult looking to be treated as a paying customer, rather than a patient.

Hello, welcome, and congratulations for starting Invisalign!  I hope you post a picture so that we can see the extent of your issues.  Also, if your doctor has given you access to your ClinCheck, that's a great way to see the actual treatment plan in pictures.  Some people post the ClinChecks in their reviews for others to see :).

I'm a little confused--if you have 52 aligners that you switch weekly, I'm not sure how that's two years instead of one.  I've heard of doctors just making double the amount of aligners out of the same case (same cost to the patient) and then the patient gets to switch to a fresh aligner every week.  So that'd be the equivalent of a 26-aligner treatment, or a year.  So, very interested to hear more, is what I'm saying :D!

Have you met Kateh4264 yet?  She's our other Irish Invisaligner, though she's from Galway.  That's a couple of hours away from Cork, yeah?

Oh, and let me know if you have specific difficulties with the site features.  I'm here to help :).

Hey, I have just updated my review and will add photos later today. As you'll see in the review, there are 53 aligners in my treatment plan. However as I was unhappy with the two year length of treatment that this would entail (double what the ortho had told me initially) she suggested that I change each the 53 aligners weekly instead of every two weeks, thereby cutting treatment time to one year. Though this sounded a little unusual to me, I have been following this advice so far...!

Thanks for the pictures!  Looks like moderate crowding on the top and mild on the bottom?  I have never heard of a doctor just halving the wear-time because the patient didn't like the length of the treatment time.  Are you using AcceleDent?  Because then it'd make perfect sense.  If not, you might consider asking our doctors here on RealSelf (it's free) their opinion on this.  Specifically, that the doctor recommended wearing the aligners only one week at a time without using AcceleDent or any other treatment-shortening technology.  Things do keep evolving over at Invisalign, and since I'm not doctor, I don't have access to their latest research.  But you want to make sure you're not changing trays too fast for the bone remodeling to happen (if you do, worst case, your roots can resorb and your teeth can fall out.)  There's an interesting Q&A with the doctors here as well.  One of the doctors mentions a 10-day cycle, and I've seen others do this as well.

Thanks, I will ask the doctors. I'm not using acceledent, I don't think that it is available in Ireland. I was concerned too that she just changed the plan so quickly, possibly not to loose me as a client to different treatment with a different dentist or ortho :/ Looking forward to hearing what the doctors say! Also only half of my last review was uploaded, is there a way to get the rest up? Thanks :-)

Oh and as per the crowding it's mild on top and moderate on the bottom. I'll try to take more pictures so that you can see this better!

Oh!  Yeah, because that's not what I saw at all, LOL!  My eyes must be getting waaaaaay worse!

Do you have the text of the part of the review that didn't get published?  Because I can add that to the end.  But I don't see any unpublished content other than your question, which the publishers will publish shortly.

Hey Suefox! TwoPlusOne told me about you. It's crazy how similar our stories are:) I'm 25 on tray 5 out of 58 and my ortho just knocked me down to changing my aligners weekly instead of biweekly now too! He's rated one of our top orthodontist where I'm from so going to do what he says just hope it works! It sounds to me that most people typically don't have to go past a year on their treatments so when I was told 2 years my jaw dropped because I too felt my case wasn't as severe as others. Maybe Invisalign has a new treatment plan where they test to see how well your teeth move and just end up changing aligners weekly making it so that we only have about a year treatment plan too! Who knows it's just a theory! Excited to see if it works though:)

Deciding to get my teeth straightened

For as long as I can remember I've never been totally happy with my teeth. In school I was referred by my dentist for an orthodontic consultation, where I was told that I could benefit from braces, but as my case wasn't very severe I was put on a very long waiting list ... 10 years later and I never heard back from the public ortho! So finally at 26 after saving up a bit of money I decided to look into my treatment options for getting a nicer smile :-)

I went for four different consultations with both orthodontists and cosmetic dentists. As I teach I didn’t want braces that were very noticeable. Also I didn’t HATE my teeth, but I did want a nicer smile. For this reason I wasn’t going to commit to any very long or drastic treatment plan, or one that would impact on my day-to-day life too much.

I narrowed my options down to either 6 month smiles or invisalign. I choose invisalign for three reasons: 1) It is less noticeable, 2) treatment time was only 6 months longer (12 months total), 3) One of the orthodontists that I consulted with had a €500 off offer (more of a bonus for me, than a strong reason to choose this).
I was really excited getting my impressions done in June 2014. I was under the impression from my ortho that I would be consulted throughout the treatment planning, however 2 months later I was called in for my first appointment and shown the clincheck at the same time. After trying to contact my ortho on the phone on numerous occasions, she finally replied to an email and answered my question that I would need 53 aligners, i.e. over two years of treatment!
I was unhappy with this, as the main reason I chose invisalign was the 1 year treatment. Ok, I know that this is an estimation, but for a professional to be 12 months off in their estimation is a bit much! Anyway, I was unhappy with the plan, and wanted to re-assess my options. However my ortho assured me that invisalign was the best option for my case, and that she could cut the treatment time down to 1 year by recommending that I change my aligners weekly (she never mentioned acceledent) and that she would do a mid-course correction as soon as possible.
Even though I was wary that the treatment length could be changed so drastically, I decided that she was a professional and that I should trust her advice. So now I am on aligner number 7 after having changed them weekly.

Thanks for reading, I would love to hear from anyone else who might have had a similar experience, or any other comments
