31 and Finally Doing Something About my Low Profile Chin

Yesterday was my first ever consult for what my options could be for getting a more defined chin/more balanced face. I've been self conscious about my double chin and small chin for pretty much my whole life. When I was in 8th grade and had braces the orthodontist suggested to my mom that she get my chin fixed. That really planted the seed. Many years later, I still make faces in the mirror every time I walk by one, trying to extend my neck, push my lower jaw out, do anything to make it less noticeable. This brings me to yesterday.
Dr. Dax Guenther was very nice and thorough. He took into consideration my concerns and gave me several options. He suggested CoolSculpt might be enough to reduce my double chin and avoid the need for a surgical implant. Had I known a non surgical procedure was available, I would never have waited so long for a consult! He said that this procedure can reduce about 25% of the fat cells in each session, and he would suggest 2 visits for my neck (the measurement was actually 2 "treatments" the first visit, and 1 the second visit at $750 per "treatment"). This procedure should have similar, if not better, results than actual lipo. So I think I've made the decision to start with the coolsculpt and re-evaluate my profile in a few months when the final results of that have taken effect.
If I'm still not satisfied with my profile, I can then decide to proceed with a silicon chin implant, that he would suggest inserting via the mouth to avoid scaring. This sounds like an ideal plan of action to me. If the coolsculpt is enough, then I avoided surgery! If it's not, then I can still avoid scarring and get the chin put in, in a few months.
The other option was to go all in and just get the chin and standard neck lipo at the same time. He said the skin is a little less resilient with lipo than coolsculpt (since with lipo you're removing a lot of fat at once, and coolsculpt you're reducing it over time, allowing the skin more time to tighten slowly). Lipo and the implant together would also mean I would need external stitched, a compression sleeve to increase the skin retraction, and more discomfort with recovery. The final decision was price. Since the cool sculpt requires 3 different treatments for me, it's ends up being about $250 more than going and getting the surgery and lipo at the same time. To me, that's a small price to pay for the easier procedure.
So I've made my decision. Going to call today to book the cool sculpt! I will keep you posted on the results!!

GL! He did lipo for my double chin in August. I also have a weak profile. It’s bothered me for as long as I can remember. I can definitely see the difference, but know I have a couple more months before I see the final result. So far so good! :-)

I had a rhinoplasty 44 years ago. Thinks were different back then. My doctor decided that I needed a more pronounced chin to balance my new smaller nose so he just did it. I woke up from surgery with my whole face bandaged. The nose was beautiful and he was so right about adding the chin implant. They did it from the inside of the mouth so right there are no scars. From your pictures I think an little implant would be the final touch. I have never felt like I had an implant at all. It is still there after all these years.

Thanks for the comment! If you check out my profile, I actually did end up going for the implant this past October, and I love it! That's crazy that your doc made that decision on his own, but that's awesome that you were happy with the results!! :)

I had my first appointment three days ago. Two 45 min sessions, one for each side of my neck. The procedure was interesting. It went from feeling like nothing, to cold, to numb, the numbness then spread along my cheek, there was tingling, then the pressure on my jaw felt immense. I was a little overwhelmed that the feelings all happened in the first 15 or so minutes but then it just kind of leveled out and I managed to fall asleep! I wish I had brought headphones, will next time. It was pretty boring sitting there and I couldn't do much with the device in front of me.
I didn't realize the massage you get when they take it off would hurt, but it does! And after, the technician said I could feel numbness for a couple weeks! I didn't realize that was a thing!
So the first night it felt really weird, and in the morning it felt really numb and felt almost like it was bruised. Stretching my neck out also hurt. Within 24hrs the painful feeling was pretty much gone but it's day 3 and it still feels pretty numb.
As far as appearance goes, my husband says he doesn't see a difference but I feel like it looks a little worse. Like the cells that does have disconnected and are hanging or something. I'm feeling hopeful that the change in appearance and feeling mean Something is working!! To be continued..

Day 11

I feel like I only have about 5-10% numbness, so that's good! And I also feel like I'm starting to get a little definition under my neck close to my chin. My second session is December 5. I'll post updated pictures when I have more noticable results!
