Finally done healing!
I am exactly at the 6 month date of surgery! The 18th of January. So I'm fully healed now. I had my genioplasty done on July 8th of last year. I will say that I am so extremely PLEASED with the results. I was pleased with the results even during the first week, after the small chin bandage was taken off. But now, knowing this is how my chin will look -- my profile having noticeable greater forward growth, and the extra 3mm in the front making my frontal view far more harmonious and equal in 1/3s from top, midface, and lowerface -- I am even more ecstatic! Please read my full review and updates below as I am a real person.
If you are considering doing it, Dr. Jamali is your man. What I really appreciate about his approach was that he got me extremely natural looking results. People often perceive/feel that I look different, but they don't exactly know why. It's akin to maybe losing 5 pounds off your face, and you getting greater definition and clarity in your bone structure. Having 7mm forward and 3mm down totally harmonized my face from every angle and I no longer get self-conscious in pictures or just in general feeling that there's something "a little off" about my face. I never had a recessed chin, per se, but my chin did not match my other features, which were larger and more exaggerated.
What is actually pretty strategic is that after you get the surgery done, just change up your hair, or shave (if you're a guy), or do something that is slightly distracting. Since getting the surgery, I grew out my hair and shaved my beard, which does give me a different appearance, but it also aids in distracting people from thinking it's my chin that's fundamentally changed. They just "feel" that I look different, and they have a kind of "pleasantly taken aback" expression on their face, which is pleasing cause I know now that it wasn't just "me" in my head feeling self-conscious about my chin, but that it does have an impact. These expressions often come randomly at me, so I know it's not that people are trying to find something to compliment or find pleasing about my face.... it's the subtle work that kinda tweaks everything into place to give a "harmonious" feeling... don't know if I'm explaining this correctly, but that's the best I can do.
I think sometimes we get hung up on a physical flaw we feel we have. I definitely did with my chin and I agonized over getting this for months. Part of my journey after getting the surgery was also working on other parts of my life to gain confidence, contentment, and happiness. I look at getting this procedure not just as an aesthetic success, but equally that I followed through with doing the research and having the courage to work on something that bothered me. It involved commitment and self-care and planning and a lot of self-reflection before and after. So the experience can be quite beneficial, if you also couple it with working on your life, mental health, and self-love.
Good luck to all thinking of getting a sliding genioplasty! So happy with my results.

1 Month Update
Here's my 1 month update:
Nothing too crazy here! I'm back on eating normal food. I still feel numbness in my chin and my lower front teeth, but the sensations are slowly going back. Honestly, you just kinda get used to it. I don't really notice it. Swelling has gone down a lot since day 1, but the underlying bone projection and lengthening still hold. Just took a bunch of photos and did a comparison to how I looked before and am still very pleased with the results. There is still tightness in the incision area that I am aware of, but I think this is probably pretty normal. Complete and final results happen at 6 month mark, and I'm only done 1.
I will say that I really enjoyed doing this procedure. It did in fact completely re-configure my face in a way that made the other areas really harmonious and in sync. I didn't really expect this. Just expected a nicer profile. So everything that really happened in the front has been a total plus and more than I could ask for.
If you were like me two years ago researching this slowly, keep researching and doing the work to get to know everything you can. But also know that there are very few horror stories about sliding genioplasty, most people are thrilled with having lower forward growth in their face, and in the hands of a competent surgeon who specializes in this, you'll be fine.
Even the by-products - "slightly rolling in of lip" - I actually really love, because it better aligns my lips. Overall, very happy thus far. The tightness in my lower gums is not my favorite thing in the world, to be honest, but I can live with this until full recovery.

2 Week Update
I'm at my 2 week mark now and wanting to leave an update.
I had my post-op follow up with Dr. Jamali yesterday.
At this point, I am really happy with the results. The swelling has gone down considerably. There may still be some swelling in or around my chin area and maybe slightly in my neck area. However, with what's currently here, I'm happy with the improvement. It's true that a few mm can really make the difference. What's crazy is that for me, in particular, I notice it most from the front. Adding that 3mm helps to harmonize my frontal view completely. I didn't expect this AT ALL as all I wanted was to fix my profile. So it's such a lovely surprise that all of a sudden, it's like with a few small mm, my face is well proportioned from the front. Additionally, there has been some neck tightening and getting rid of some fat underneath, which was really nice as well! I never had a bunch of fat there, but my jawline is even more defined than it was before, and I'm at a pretty low body fat. A plus!!! I was expecting this to happen though cause Dr. Jamali said so in the consultation and I had read about this neck tightening effect. So if you also want a neck lift, this surgery produces some noticeable/modest results. Never a bad thing.
In terms of anything that I wished was different thus far, there are some angles where I wish there was slightly more projection - like 2-3 mm more - namely, my oblique views. However, I am eager to see what the results will be in 6 months time. I'm also eager to forget that this is a want and just be able to catch myself from time to time at this angle in the mirror and see how I feel about it. I'm hyper conscious of my chin these days and need some time to decompress.
Dr. Jamali was also so kind as to talk about my overbite as well. He was a dentist so he understands your teeth! Really, the genioplasty helps to disguise some dental flaws that I have, which could have been taken care of by jaw surgery, but I don't have the time or patience right now for a long process like that.
As always, Nina is the best. She's such a lovely presence in the office.
Overall, I'm happy with the results so far and will be posting at the 1 month mark. If you are interested in this procedure, I would highly recommend Dr. Jamali. This is not, I assure you, a fake review. He's known to have a gentle touch and is very calm and relaxed and knowledgeable. I appreciated his calmness cause I was, leading up the consultation, really nervous and jittery as this is my first major surgery after wisdom teeth extraction years ago. So I was a bit nervous, but he makes it effortless! It's pleasurable to go in for my appointments.
In terms of any residual bruising, I have a little bit in my neck area. It's being a bit stubborn. But I think I just bruise easily. Bruises usually take ~2 weeks to go away, so I cannot wait till it's off my neck. It's summertime, so when I have to Skype and show my face with friends, I just throw on a light turtle neck and crank up the air conditioning. There is still a bit of tightness in the chin area and slowing getting back sensation in my front teeth and chin area. You honestly get used to it being a bit numb and carry on with your day.
In the post op, we took another x-ray and I was shown the titanium plate and how much it was moved forward. Other than comparing before and afters that I took of myself, I also like looking at this x-ray side by side with the original one I got with my old chin and seeing the difference it makes to my profile.
If you go through with the surgery, take before + after photos where you can replicate angles as exactly as possible. Front, sides, obliques. Then do a video of your face in motion as you move your head. Then do this after surgery and compare. I can definitely feel the difference thus far and it's fun to watch the transformation.
