Chin Implant - Day Of

WORTH IT

I’ve always had weak chin and it’s one of my biggest insecurities, so I finally had the courage to change the way it looks. I got fillers for a couple of years and found that they wear off within months and are expensive to maintain, so I decided to look for a more permanent solution.

When I went to the consultation in October 2019 and explained my concerns to Dr. Frank, he came across very knowledgeable and confident. He immediately had an idea of how to help accomplish what I was envisioning. He took the time to answer all of my questions and ease my worries about the procedure. The staff at the clinic are all very personable and friendly.

I came in, in the morning on July 17 and was greeted by the nurse Carol. I explained to her that I was petrified of the sedation process. Which sounds like a weird thing to be worried about in the grand scheme of changing a facial feature, but I would say sedation or general anesthesia are my biggest fears.

I asked her about a million questions about the sedation process and projected all my anxiety onto her. She was incredibly patient with me and showed a lot of empathy (even though I was probably the most annoying patient on the planet). She sat and talked with me while we waited for the drugs to kick in and it was very comforting.

Next we go into the OR, where another nurse Carissa is and Dr. Frank came in to do the procedure. We took some before and after photos and then he got straight to work. The nurses prepped my face, put a cool cloth over my eyes and had some light music playing in the background.

Doctor Frank explained what he was doing when he was freezing me and getting ready to operate. I didn’t feel a thing after that and the surgery itself seemed like it went by very quick.

After I was done and before I got bandaged up, I got a quick look of the implant. It looked good to me but it was also obviously very swollen. I have to wait a few days to remove the bandages and can post reviews as time goes on.

My only minor recommendation for improvement is to maybe just provide a separate little sheet with aftercare instructions to take home the day of surgery or even a quick explanation to the caregiver. My memory didn’t serve me too great on the part that we went over verbally today, but they do have a little aftercare section on the information sheet you get when you book.

But my initial experience, up to this point has been nothing short of wonderful. Thank you Dr. Frank & team.

*I have been photo documenting this and will be uploading pictures in the near future of the progress*

Update: My surgery was just over 10 hours ago and pain is minimal. I give it about a 3/10. TLDR; Highly recommend Dr. Frank and his team. Easy, painless surgery. Minimal pain afterwards.

I missed mentioning a key point: my implant was intra-oral insertion.

Post Op Day 1 (July 18):
I woke up and my cheeks were quite red and slightly warm and I worried that it was the sign of an infection. However, I’m on antibiotics so I didn’t stress too much about it. I figured it was part of the healing process but was monitoring that in case it got worse (it didn’t).

I could barely open my mouth and had to sip everything. I used ice packs under my chin most of the day. I also bought these little waterless toothbrushes by Colgate, because brushing hurts and I was trying to keep toothpaste out of the incision. They worked really great for this!

Pain level was about a 4/10 for me

Was it a custom implant?

Yes please post pics. I was thinking of going to the US (New York) to get it done because a lot of doctors don’t post pics here in Canada.
