I had a tummy tuck with muscle repair and flank...
I had a tummy tuck with muscle repair and flank liposuction in mid-April. I have to admit that even though I had a lot of lower back pain and was so down about the way my mid-section looked I was very scared to have surgery.
I chose Dr. Singh because of his credentials + my OB/Gyn highly recommended him and I trust her. I didn't know I had diastasis recti. I just thought I had a lot of fat from weight gain after pregnancy. I have two boys, 2and 3 years old (15 months apart). I thought I would go in for liposuction and be done with it. Then I found out I had separation of my muscles. I didn't even know that could occur. I also had very bad lower back pain when I would bend down. I thought this was because of the epidurals I had yo have for my c-sections and I'd have this spin for life.
When I first met with Dr. Singh he answered all my questions (I had a lot) and I
didn't feel rushed at all. He told me that although I was a candidate fir liposuction I round get the best result from a TT with muscle repair because of the diastasis and extra skin. I was bummed because I didn't want to have surgery/recovery because of the down time with my kids. I was also nervous because I couldn't envision the outcome. After months of deliberation (with no pressure from the doctor/his office) I talked it over with my husband and made the decision to do it. During these months I also emailed with other people through the realself site and a friend's sister who had it done.
Nicolette from Dr. Singh's office is the absolute best. She's another reason why I felt at ease. She managed my expectations really well and I never felt pressured or like I was being sold anything. I think she could tell I was scared and she was very reassuring. That's the other thing with Dr. Singh, it wasn't a sale - it was information to help me make a decision and 0 judgement.
The surgery went well. The recovery was painful but my expectations were well set so I was prepared. I couldn't walk upright for the first couple of weeks but gradually I was able to. I didn't realize how exhausted I would be in the first few weeks after the surgery. I felt like I was in my first trimester of pregnancy. Although everyone heals differently be aware of that. I thought I was going to stroll back to work after 10 days but it was taking me three times as long to walk a city block.
Now, on to my new looks/feelings. Absolutely amazing - better than however I though it was going to be. My stomach is flat and it looks very natural. My scar is low. It's very well covered by my underwear. My belly button looks normal. I had seen all kinds of strange looking belly buttons in online photos so I was afraid I was going to have one of those but I don't. I gave a waist again! I look and feel good in my clothes. I feel so confident. I don't feel my lower back pain anymore) my nurse Michelle told me to squat rather than bend over). My posture is so much better. I didn't realize how much I slouched before. I am so happy. I wouldn't be this happy if I didn't have this surgery.
The challenges are now to maintain a healthy lifestyle (diet/exercise) and to try to get some rest. I highly recommend Dr. Singh and welcome questions via email. Hopefully my story helps to ease anxiety for someone else who is about to go through this procedure. I will post some before/after photos as soon as I figure out how to edit my face out of them :)
