Certified Plastic Surgeon
1030 – 10th Avenue South West, Calgary, Alberta
Overall rating

I had breast augmentation surgery with Dr. Waslen in July 2012. Upon my research of Calgary surgeons, I chose Dr Waslen based on claims that he was Calgary’s best plastic surgeon. His office was nice, his staff were friendly and helpful, and his prices were substantially higher than most surgeons I had researched at the time. I went in for my consultation and even though Dr. Waslen was quite short answered and not incredibly friendly, I was still eager to book with him. After all, a friendly doctor is not as important as a skilled doctor. One thing that was a bit of a conflict was him being hesitant to my requests. It almost seemed that he thought I was some young 21 idiot who didn’t know what she really wanted. I was young, but I did know what I wanted, and that was big boobs. I asked for 600cc and he said he would only be comfortable using 550cc saline implants. I agreed and booked my surgery. I am petite at five feet tall & 90 pounds, which is why I understood that 550 was what would be appropriate for my size. I was incredibly excited, I paid the $11,500 for the surgery in full and counted down the days for surgery. Once the surgery was done, I was pretty happy with results. I had been given my mentor card showing my implant serial numbers & the size which plain as day said 550cc. A few years later, they looked awful. I had developed lateral displacement and my breasts flopped to the side when I lied down. I had a five finger gap between my breasts that was incredibly embarrassing and was a huge source of my low self esteem. Needless to say, I was not happy. I figured my implants were due for a replacement. They looked small and hideous. I understand implants need replacement and are not permanent. So I booked a revision surgery with an amazing doctor in the states. I am now a week post op & love my new boobs. But the new surgeon informed me that my previous implants were only 400cc. He said there was no leak in the implants and that they were both evenly filled to 400cc. I was livid. Dr. Waslen, regardless of his personal opinions on how big a persons breasts should be, should always be honest and up front about what he is putting into someone’s body. If he didn’t want to go bigger than 400, that should have been clearly discussed with me prior to my surgery. If you are planning to spend thousands of dollars on a surgeon, you deserve to know exactly what you are going to receive. When I went in for my next surgery I went quite a lot bigger and that was partially due to the fact that I assumed I already had 550cc implants. I didn’t find out until after my surgery that my old implants were not the size I thought. Even though I’m incredibly happy with my new boobs, the fact that I was lied to and that that affected my decision to go a lot larger the second time around is unsettling. BE honest with your patients Dr. Waslen. And I’m all honesty, he’s nothing special as far as a surgeon goes. You could get much better results with another surgeon who doesn’t charge as much in the US, and you’d probably not be lied to as well.
