The above review presents an opportunity to discuss Plastic Surgery outcomes, in this case- Breast Reduction- and the primary factors which contribute to success as perceived by the patient and surgeon. Informed Consent- Refers to the mutual understanding between the patient and surgeon of the risks/complications of surgery and of the expectations that the surgeon has of the patient and that the patient has of the surgeon. In my office this includes a patient signed consent in advance of surgery which addresses financial responsibility and my willingness to provide revisions at no charge- there is no bill from me. Charges related to the facility or anesthesia are the patient’s responsibility. It is important to address financial responsibility before the surgery date to ensure that the patient is prepared and understands. My office provides a separate hour meeting to further educate patients on what to expect after surgery, post op wound care, physical restrictions from activity, support bra fitting, medication- all of which are critical to success. Surgical Technique-Isdetermined based on the expressed goals of the patient (how small??), physical exam, assessment of medical and health risks and deliberate care during surgery. Patient Follow Through -Refers to any patient’s ability to follow directions, wear post operative bra, keep appointments, maintain clean skin/clothes, shower/ cleanse daily and report/avoid any other infections/illness.Other infections, as an example, a urinary tract infection, sends bacteria through the blood all over the body and can/will disrupt surgical incisions leading to widening of scars, delayed wound healing. In addition, it is essential to keep the skin clean daily to avoid superficial wound infections. I find that when the above factors are acknowledged in advance of surgery, there is an acceptance of whatever circumstances occur after surgery. Accepting them and moving toward a solution is not easy for everyone

Update Feb 29, 2024: Surgeon responded to my review. My answer below: Yes, things were gone through before surgery, i.e. as stated the paperwork, fees, extra surgery, complications, expectations, etc. During the process, my expectations were high, not once did the surgeon make me aware that things would not go well, and even more, she let me know that what I was looking for was achievable, so there shouldn't be any complications. As for healing; I followed everything to the T, and my healing took longer than normal. Nothing was healing properly, my incisions were opening up, I had scabs due to how bad it got, and all methods used to keep them close had done more damage, including ripping my skin off. I had my breast wrapped for a long time, per the doctor and staff, 24/7. So there was no misfollow.
And yes, I agree, I wish everyone could see the Post-Op picture after surgery because I see it in my head all the time. What I don't understand is how bad everything went after all the swelling went down. In the first month, they looked great, after that, they became saggy and flaccid, I could fit four fingers under my breast, nipples and scars were horrible, as I said above. I ended up with breasts that looked 5x worse than what I came with, and you don't spend $12K for that type of result.
As a surgeon, I expect a better work ethic; not something that ends after you receive payment, and 100% a better result ethic, seeing as the results are way below expectations and the person who has to suffer is me, and not the surgeon.
Update on the Appointment today March 1, 2024: I will let everyone know what the staff/surgeon says.
