When Every Doctor Says No..

WORTH IT
I was 25 years old, a new mom and just diagnosed with breast cancer. It doesn’t run in my family, and it was a complete surprise entirely. The first year was insane. So many doctors appointments and surgeries. I decided to get a bilateral mastectomy and cosmetically it just made sense as well. My mastectomy was April 2017, I was rapidly expanded over the course of 4 weeks, in excruciating pain, and had my implants put in May 2017. The entire process was horrible, after having my boobs taken from me, the cosmetic part was all I looked forward to and I woke up in severe disappointment. I didn’t even wait a week to start researching different doctors to fix my now botched chest. Every doctor I called told me that ideally going back to the surgeon who performed my surgery was the best thing to do to have him fix what went wrong but every time I sat in his office he told me that as a reconstruction patient having the chest look great was not the outcome, that is for an augmentation, the outcome was having it look “some what” normal again. I was so disappointed. No doctors wanted to take my case on understandably, until with tears in my eyes I sat across from Dr. Renee Burke. She told me it wasn’t going to be easy because my left breast had undergone radiation, that there would be risks but she opened her door to me, she listened and she gave me that chance that no one else did. She didn’t rush me, she listened to every concern. She removed my implants December 2018 and we put the expanders back in to stretch my skin to fit a bigger implant in for my desired look. My expanding process this time around was a absolute BREEZE as she took things slow and steady making sure the uncomfortable process I once went through had a different outcome this time around. Because my skin was radiated we decided to stop the expansion based on how much my left breast could tolerate and we did the exchange surgery April 2019. I can not stress enough the ABSOLUTE difference from start to finish. The results that she delivered were everything I dreamt of and more. She listened to everything I wanted and gave me the confidence I had plus more! I just can’t thank you enough, for giving me my confidence back, for the experience, for listening to me and delivering results beyond measure, for not saying no and shutting your door on me like everyone else did, because of this you changed my life.

Im so sorry for the journey you have been on and i wish you well but it disappoints me that surgeons would even recommend implants as they ( the textured implants) are known to cause cancer breast implant illness which i personally had and am suffering from. I have heard of countless stories now of people that have had reconstruction only to end up with ALCL... i hope you havent got the textured but if you have please find out the make and other details if possible. Allergan have been banned in some countries im not sure about others but it’s definitely something you should look in to if you havent already x
I'm so happy you had a good outcome second time around. You deserve to feel happy in your body!! Thank you for sharing.
