4 weeks post-op update!

Can’t believe it’s already been 30 days since my surgery. Stopped pain med after 2 weeks because the itching got too bad and Zyrtec stopped helping. Went back to work 1 week after surgery. Still sleeping elevated with surgical bra, still shower bent over so the stitches don’t get wet. Dr. Pousti’s office has called at least once a week since the surgery to check on me which I really appreciate. No complaints other than one side looking a little smaller than the other but it’s too soon to judge because the implants haven’t fully settled into their pockets yet. Sent pics of this to Dr. Pousti and he immediately called me back to assure me that it was too soon to tell which was what I figured. Can’t wait till week 6 when I get to take a full shower and get these dressings and stitches off so I can see what my new girls really look like!

Dr. Pousti...thank you for my 900cc!!!!

Had my first BA at 23 y/o 375cc saline implants over the muscle. 16 years and 3 kids later, had my lift with 425cc Silicone implants under the muscle. 6 years later lost 22 pounds and the lift failed, had upper pole fullness but the bottom poles were droopy, and the areolas pointed south. Started doing extensive research for a breast expert because I wanted to go to at least 800cc with a very round augmented look. Turns out that I was entering into a whole other world that only a handful of surgeons take on, the XL breast augmentation. I researched into the internal bra technique which is absolutely necessary to hold up XL implants or in patients that may not have good breast tissue to work with like me since this would be my 3rd breast surgery, and I knew I would have a lot of scar tissue that would have to be removed and my pockets would have to be rebuilt. I read close to a thousand reviews on REALSELF on the few doctors that I had narrowed down to. I searched for reviews that spoke of long lasting results, care for patients’ safety over results, exceptional post-care, and reaching the patients’ goals without judgement. Dr. Pousti seemed to meet every single criteria on paper. So after 3 months of research, I contacted his office and scheduled to meet him. Because I was flying from Louisiana to San Diego CA, his office worked out every single detail with me to be sure that this would not be a wasted trip, they were very detailed and organized which was a great start. Since my kids were going to be out from school for a week for Spring Break, they came along as willing “caregivers” ha ha! We flew in on Thursday, had the presurgery measurements with Vanessa and she showed me her gorgeous girls who were done by Dr. Pousti 16 years ago, I was sold! Daisy and I exchanged hair tips (crimper from Target LOL) and then I finally met Dr. Pousti. He had this zen-like calmness and I immediately felt assured. He explained my options, all while keeping me laughing with his upbeat sense of humor. I gave him full authority to proceed in the best manner in his judgment because once the procedure began, I did not want him to have any restraining conditions. If I needed pig-skin strattice to support the internal bra, fine. If he needed to go to saline to get the look I wanted because Silicone maxed out at 800cc, fine. We looked at the goal pictures I had emailed him and he felt like he could achieve it at 700cc without strattice. He said he would have to redo the lift, rebuild my pockets, and build the internal bra with internal sutures. The was surgery set for 7am the next morning. While I was waiting at the front desk for my surgery papers, Dr. Pousti came out to say goodbye but he noticed I was anxious so he asked to come chat in his office. His private office was clean and simple without all the frills and fuss you’d expect to find which I liked. He reassured me again that I was in good hands, I reassured him that I was a research-nerd and had stalked his reviews for 3 months, so I knew I was in good hands. I was just nervous from what I knew would be a very painful recovery based upon past surgeries I’ve had. I left with prescriptions for my pain meds and antibiotics. DON’T FILL AT THE PHARMACY DOWNSTAIRS THOUGH, they didn’t take any kind of insurance or coupons given by Dr. Pousti’s office, they were very rude, and they took 1.5 hours to fill 3 simple prescriptions.
Checked in at the hotel and slept ZERO that night due to anxious nerves. Arrived at San Diego Surgical Center the next morning at 6am sharp, and they checked me in, logged my son’s cell phone into the system so that he would know where I was at all times throughout the surgery, and then I met the surgery team. Forgot her name but my nurse was an older Asian no-funny business lady who got my IV in less than 10 seconds with zero pain. It is usually very hard to get an IV into me so I was pleasantly pleased. Then Dr. Pousti arrives, he stands me up and starts marking me which took no time. Then off I went into dream world with Dr. Pousti holding my hands the whole time reminding me that I was in the best of care. Seemed like seconds later I start waking up, and the familiar heavyness and soreness hits. The nurse starts dressing me, and I get wheeled out to the car, and I hear the conversation between my son and the nurse and I heard 560cc. Well that wasn’t as big as I had hoped. Got back to the hotel and immediately I threw up from all the anesthesia and instantly felt better afterwards. Later that evening Dr. Pousti called to check on me, and I said I was disappointed with only 560cc. Dr. Pousti said that the saline implants were 560cc and he overfilled them to 900cc each. He said he did a revised lift, the internal bra without strattice, and that the surgery went textbook beautiful. I was ecstatic!
With each day, I felt better, and on Monday, Daisy called to check on me, reminding me to keep my elbows by my side, sleep elevated, take my meds, record my drainage (I had two drains), and come in on Tuesday for my post-op checkup. Although I was anxious to go home, Dr. Pousti requested me to stay 2 more days to allow more recovery time and for the drains to be removed before I left San Diego. So he scheduled me to come back on Thursday, telling me how much he appreciated my compliance. Thursday morning came, and Vanessa took me back, and Dr. Pousti cleared for my drains to be removed. And since my new boobs looked so amazing, I asked him to touch up my forehead with some Botox, might as well since I was on pain meds. He injected the Botox and after making me promise to stay in touch for aftercare and send pictures, he left for another scheduled surgery. Nicest, warmest, amazingly talented, and most caring doctor I’ve ever met, my nerdy research had paid off.
Now my healing journey begins. I’m anxious for these scars to heal up and see how they will look settled into my pockets, and how F-cups will look on a 5’ 120 pound 44 y/o mom of 4. I will post followup pics every 30 days, but these were taken right after surgery.
Dr. Pousti was the breast expert I’d hoped for. I’d give 10 stars if I could!!
