He's Your Breast Guy, Skip Everything Else.

I had work done by Dr. Rad back in 2023 and debated whether to share my experience or just move on. There were some really good parts about working with Dr. Rad but overall I would not recommend him for anything other than breast work. He completed a DIEP flap surgery and a second stage/revision which typically accompanies the DIEP. He performed facial fat grafting, flank and inner thigh lipo during the second stage surgery.

Positives: I worked with him at both GW Hospital and Innova and he seems incredibly well respected by the surgical teams there and I felt very safe under his care. Dr. Rad in a hospital setting is very kind, thoughtful and patient. He impressed me with some very thoughtful conversations regarding breast reconstruction that made me feel like he had my best interest in mind. He worked for 10.5 hours to complete my initial DIEP flap surgery. It went much longer than anticipated and family members were concerned because of the lack of communication, but it was successful, and for that I am very grateful for all of his hard work.

Negatives: A lot. He is essentially a one-man-show, so the communication is pretty terrible and inefficient for patients, including a revolving door of staff. This translates into so much more work for me as a patient to receive correct pre & post-op instructions, CT scan orders, questions answered, waiting for him at the hospital, waiting an extra four hours at the hospital to be discharged. There is no NP or anything, it's just him and a med student from GW besides the front office staff. His demeanor in the office ranges from pleasant to condescending and impatient. I would drive two hours for my appts and no one could or would tell me how long my appointments were scheduled for, everyone says the scripted Dr. Rad will give you as much time as needed and he will answer all of your questions, which he never had enough time for so the best approach was emailing my questions to his medical assistant. He is the only plastic surgeon I have met with that would not show me a portfolio of work. He pulled out his phone and showed me his website that hasn't been updated since maybe 2016. He couldn't be bothered and no one else has access to anything or can answer any questions besides financing and that's his practice in a nutshell.

I regret all of the additional procedures I had besides the second stage revision surgery. The asymmetrical contouring of my flanks is ok, and the crooked belly button I can also live with. But with the facial fat grafting he managed to make my eyes look smaller, eye lids droopy and give me a fuller face. And the inner thigh lipo which was just supposed to be a "subtle feathering down the inner thigh" as he called it, resulted in pockets of too much fat being taken out creating concave and bumpy sections and serious asymmetry which he blamed on my older skin (I was 42). His solution was more of the same. And that if that didn't do it, to come back for a thigh lift. Which, absolutely not. I do not trust him to revise his own work.

I feel he is a qualified doctor and a safe one, just not skilled in all the services he offers. I wouldn't have wasted my time on driving all the way to DC for the quality of his cosmetic skills.
