I want to be transparent about my experience so others can make an informed decision.
In my first surgery with Dr. Smith, he used Strattice support, which is supposed to prevent complications like rippling, folds, or “bubbles.” Even with Strattice, my breasts were placed unevenly right from the start.
Just six weeks later, I was brought in for a second surgery to fix what went wrong. This time, instead of a supportive experience, I was put under local anesthesia while my implant was removed and replaced. During the procedure, I was tied down with a cloth over my head and could hear everything. What terrified me most was being yelled at by Dr. Smith he was shouting about how the problems were “my fault” for not wearing a strap, even though I had. He even yelled at his assistant and then at me, asking “Do you hear me?” several times while I was lying there.
In that moment, I felt humiliated, terrified, and unsafe. Afterward, when I brought up going to the medical board, I was told by him that he was “like my dad” and was just making sure I followed instructions which only made me feel more dismissed and gaslit.
Even after this, the results were still wrong. His CEO, Desiree, casually said “this is so Dr. Smith 2015, and this is like baseball we have to do a third surgery to get to third base.” The complete lack of professionalism and compassion is something I will never forget.
I chose Dr. Smith for his reputation, believing I would get a permanent, professional solution. Instead, I was left with two failed surgeries, emotional trauma, and the suggestion of a third surgery as if this were a game.
For anyone considering surgery here: please do your research and get multiple opinions. No patient should ever be made to feel terrified, blamed, or dismissed while on an operating table.
