Revision: Mentor Memorygel 650cc HP
WORTH IT$7,050
After having my original BA on 7/31/2020, I quickly bottomed out. My implants were placed over the muscle (subglandular) and I had Mentor Memorygel Xtra MPP 370cc. After 3-4 months my implants were sitting low on my chest and my nipples were "stargazing". I immediately started doing my research to find a new PS to perform a revision. I live in Hawaii and the selection for PS's is slim, and the prices are astronomical. I had at least 20+ consultations, in Hawaii and on the US mainland. After having such a bad outcome with my original PS (and being quoted way more than the original BA price for a revision) I really wanted to make sure I was doing all the research possible and getting the opinions of different PS's. My first BA I really felt that I had done my research, unfortunately I did not. This time around I was sure to really look at reviews and the amount of reviews a surgeon had. The general consensus was that I would need a capsulorrhaphy and/or galaflex mesh. Most surgeons stated that I should go larger, which I absolutely wanted to do. After completing my consultations I narrowed down my list to two PS's, one of them being Dr. Colgrove. I really wanted to have the galaflex mesh and the pocket repair. Dr. Colgrove ended up being my choice. They were very easy to communicate with and answered all of my questions beforehand. Dr. Colgrove performed pocket repair (internal suturing) with galaflex mesh and placed larger implants. The care that I received was amazing. Dr. Colgrove is very straightforward and down to earth. I felt very comfortable and confident with him as my PS. The staff at Vinings Surgery Center are amazing. I am a very difficult stick and getting an IV can be impossible at times. When I went in for surgery they tried getting an IV and it was unsuccessful, they tried so many times in all different places and it just wasn't working. Finally the anesthesiologist (Marshay) said he didn't feel comfortable sticking me anymore, and at that point I was getting lightheaded. I was devastated, I thought I wasn't going to get my revision. Dr. Colgrove said he would call the hospital and see if he could pull some strings and get me scheduled for a PICC line. I honestly thought he was just saying that to make me feel better. At this point I was crying like a baby, and they were all being so kind to me. One of the nurses (Robin) even wiped away my tears. To my surprise that afternoon the hospital called me to schedule my PICC line placement for the next day. I was nervous and relieved all at once. My surgery was rescheduled for a couple days later. Even though it was very stressful having to be stuck a bunch and getting a PICC line placed, I am so grateful for the care I received. Dr. Colgrove and the staff truly care about patient safety, and that really made me feel taken care of. The day of surgery went really smooth since I already had the PICC line. I changed into the robe and compression garments and was taken back to the OR. The anesthesiologist Marshay was really amazing, when he started to sedate me I could really feel the medication and I told him exactly that. I think he could tell I was nervous and he did the most kind thing. He grabbed my ear and gently massaged it while looking me in the eyes and telling me that they were going to take really good care of me. That meant so much to me. It sounds so trivial but it really put me at ease, I managed to say thank you before passing out and then waking up in the recovery room. Surgery lasted 3 hours and 45 minutes. When I woke up I was in a lot of pain, I knew it was going to be painful from other reviews I had read about galaflex mesh. I was cold and had horrible pain, but the nurse (Rachel) took excellent care of me. She immediately got a heater to warm me up and gave me a pain pill. She made sure I was comfortable and monitored me to make sure I was safe. Rachel was really awesome, very kind and helpful, I felt safe being in her care. She also pulled out the PICC line, which I was so nervous for, and I didn't feel any pain. She had it out so fast, I was very impressed. I had drains in both breasts and after a couple hours the pain subsided and I was comfortable. I was able to stay over the muscle and I decided to go with Mentor Memorygel 650cc HP. I wanted to go with the regular Mentor Memorygel instead of the Memorygel Xtra because I felt the the Xtra implants were too firm. They both have the same gel inside but the Xtra implants are 98% filled and the Memorygel are 93% filled. Hopefully I don't have any rippling with the regular memorygel implants since I'm subglandular. So far I'm very happy with my results. I'm still swollen and the implants are still hard and I have mild asymmetry but I now have cleavage. My IMF was raised at least 1-2 inches and I have a crease. Hopefully the pocket repair/internal sutures and galaflex mesh hold up and prevent me from bottoming out. Rachel (nurse) said that I was in pain because Dr. Colgrove had to do a lot of internal suturing, which is due to my original PS over dissecting my pockets. I am so happy I went with Dr. Colgrove at Vinings Surgery Center. Dr. Colgrove and all the staff (Marshay, Rachel, Robin, and all the other wonderful staff) were absolutely amazing. They truly care about patient safety and satisfaction. I am so pleased with my results and the care I received, I highly recommend Dr. Colgrove

My implants are settling nicely. They are starting to get much softer but still have a ways to go. There is still some mild asymmetry. The left breast is starting to round out at the IMF where the asymmetry is, but the right one is dropping a little faster. I'm fine with mild asymmetry as long as they don't bottom out and I have cleavage! Took some progress pictures and pictures with a blue tank top on with just a bralette under it and a tan tank top/minimal support bra crop top with no bra. The dissolvable stitches are almost gone except for 3 on the right and one of the left. At the IMF I can feel under the skin what feels like a firm rope like underwire (that's the only way I can describe it) I'm guessing that's part of the capsulorrhaphy, and what is helping support the IMF from bottoming out again. I'm having a virtual post-op Nov. 3rd with the PS. I'm going to ask him a little more about how the surgery was done just for my own knowledge. I'm so happy with the size and truly grateful for Dr. Colgrove!

So glad everything is good. My Mentors implants were in me 15 years and I had a rupture on the left side which I never knew until I had my revision. It was contained and didn’t migrate which was a good thing.

October 31, 2021
Wow! I really hope mine last that long. I love Mentor, but recently I have read that they have a higher rupture rate than any other silicone implant. This time around I wanted to get Sientra but my PS didn't have them. Did you get an MRI every 3 years?
October 31, 2021
No, I didn’t have any MRIs with the Mentors. I had yearly mammograms but my PS said that sometimes ruptures don’t show up on them. I sometimes wonder if the mammograms rupture implants because the pressure from them can be very intense.

October 31, 2021
I wonder that too. I have never had one but I would think the pressure from the mammogram would have some negative effect on the implants. Especially implants that have been in for a number of years.
November 13, 2021
I personally know two women in Germany whose implants ruptured because of mammography and still wonder how the physicians still insist that we make mammography, despite bunch if evidence, essays written in the last decades about useless and dangerous that procedure is and that sonography and MRI are the methods in our case.
November 13, 2021
I also have Mentor since 12 years, and on MRI they deformed completely. This kind of MRI (STIR, without contrast-substance infusion) shows unsharply, I am afraid they ruptured because they lost the form completely and feel like pulp.

November 13, 2021
Wow! So the silicone shell dissolved? I have read recently that Mentor has the highest rupture rate. I wanted to get Sientra but my PS didn't carry them. I like the feel of Mentor but to have to worry about rupture is scary. Do you have anatomical implants? You said they lost their form, wasn't sure if they are form stable silicone or round silicone.
November 13, 2021
My ps recommended Sientra for my revision. It was an extra $1,000 but I believe it was worth it after reading a lot of info on them. I have already made my mind up of having only MRI’s done. No more traditional mammograms for me.

November 14, 2021
I have heard that Sientra can be more expensive but it is definitely worth it. They have the best warranty and in my opinion they feel the most squishy and soft, but they are also very durable and strong. I definitely wish I could have gotten them this time around. Thank you for the info about mammograms, I have never had one, definitely in the future I will stick with MRI's or ultrasounds.
November 14, 2021
You’re welcome. I’m glad that GivingGwyneth gave info on the two women regarding their experience with mammograms. It’s good we share info that can help each other.
November 28, 2021
Hi, sorry for answering you late, I disnt3get any notations. Interesting the information about Mentor, hat you are saying about
November 28, 2021
...it is identical what I recently read in the internet fora on breast aesthetic surgery, many many women have ruptured or "squeezed" Mentor implants. I would definitely go for Sientra, but they are not available in Europe.

November 29, 2021
I didn't know they weren't available in Europe! I really wish Motiva implants would get FDA approved in the US. I know they have done clinical trials, but I'm not sure how long that will go on for. I do wish my PS had Sientra implants, some PS's carry all 3 brands available in the US. I guess it's either their preference or the pricetag attached to it.
November 6, 2021
They look absolutely amazing! Some of the best I’ve seen! Can you post some pictures a little farther back to show their size in relation to your height? And maybe some from the side? Thanks!

November 6, 2021
Aww thank you, yes I will post some more updates. Now that I'm 6 weeks out I can stop wearing the surgical bra and start trying other bras so I have been taking more pictures of different clothes and how they look. I really wanted them big and to have that "fake" look but I also wanted to be able to cover them up too, which I'm able to do. I'm 5'4" and I weigh 140lbs. but normally I'm around 125, still working on getting back to my regular weight.

November 6, 2021
Not yet. I don't have any regular underwire bras, I only have sports bras. My medium sports bras still fit, they are just a little tight. I'm definitely going to get some underwire bras to help prevent bottoming out again!
November 6, 2021
I think you definitely accomplished your goals! They’re big and perfect! Looking forward to your updates. Can you include video? Thanks!

November 29, 2021
I haven't been measured at a store, but I went to Target and just got some cheap push-up bras (my PS recommended keeping them up and in for the next 6 months). At Target I'm fitting into a 36DD. All my sports bras from my first BA still fit (I went from 370cc MPP to 650HP) and the sports bras are size medium. I could probably do large though.
November 13, 2021
Thank you for the updates (: I have my consultation with this doctor in January. Honestly all thanks to you for writing this review. Have you noticed the implants bottoming out again or anything strange? And also I noticed you went bigger CCs which is what I want as well but the first doctor I went to said that it wasn't an option since the implants would bottom out again . Did you have the same experience ?

November 13, 2021
Aww I'm so glad I could help and that you are going to him! So I definitely was afraid of bottoming out again, especially because I had been told by about 60% of the PS's that I did a consultation with that I couldn't go larger and it would risk me bottoming out again. I went to 20+ consultations (virtual and in person) and many PS's said that I could go larger and I should so the implants would fit my frame better. So far my revision feels so strong. I was really worried that I was going to have the same issue. My breast tissue feels so strong and the only way I can describe the feel in the IMF/breast crease, if you really push down and feel the area, it feels like a rope in the shape of underwire. It doesn't bother me and it isn't noticable unless you are specifically feeling for it. I don't know if that's the capsulorrhaphy or the galaflex mesh but it feels really strong and since I have started to drop and fluff the implants rounded out over the IMF. At first there was a little asymmetry in the one breast but it rounded out to match the other. The tissue on the bottom of my breasts feels thicker. I now have cleavage! Dr. Colgrove was great about size. Since I already had 370cc implants and the skin was stretched I went in knowing I wanted 650cc and I made sure to ask Dr. Colgrove if he thought it was ok to go that large and not risk bottoming out again and he said multiple times that he was confident I would be fine. I didn't try on sizers because I already knew what I wanted and I didn't do the Vectra 3D machine either but I didn't mind. I was confident Dr. Colgrove would give me the shape and cleavage I wanted because of the reviews I read and pictures I looked at. He might not have a lot of uploaded pictures on his website but he has a lot in his reviews and I really like the shape and cleavage of his BA's. Going into surgery Dr. Colgrove was confident that he would be able to fit 650cc's in me which was a relief, and he didn't try to talk me into a size a didn't want. So far I'm very happy with the look and shape, he really followed my wish pics, and I really feel like the revision will hold up for a long time, it feels very strong. What are you getting done, and did they recommend the galaflex mesh and pocket repair?
November 13, 2021
Yes the first doctor recommended the internal bra or for him just to fix the pocket. I just want to go from 350cc to maybe 425-485cc . I'm just so afraid of bottoming out again . On top of my implant bottoming out I have a double .Like I said before thank you so much for writing this review it gave me so much hope . Please keep me updated (:

November 14, 2021
That was my fear too! I knew I wanted galaflex mesh and pocket repair/capsulorraphy to make sure that I had double the strength. Especially going larger, I just didn't want to bottom out again. Some PS's would only recommend one or the other and I really wanted both. It literally feels like an internal bra, it feels like a rope is stitched in there so the IMF isn't going anywhere. You can't see it or feel it unless you are trying to feel it, it's way up in the crease. It's good that you are under the muscle. I'm over the muscle, and while I like being over the muscle I know the sub-muscular is stronger in the long run. I have seen great revision results from women that have had double bubble/bottoming out. You aren't going that much larger, you shouldn't have any issues! I know that was a big fear for me. I just kept telling myself that if the revision didn't work then I would have to explant, I just didn't want to get my hopes up. Honestly I can't believe how strong and thick the lower breast tissue already feels from the galaflex mesh. Dr. Colgrove calls it pocket repair but I'm pretty sure he did a capsulorraphy/internal bra because that is truly what it feels like. I'm only 7-8 weeks out and I'm very confident that the revision was a success. My surgery lasted almost 4 hours because Dr. Colgrove had to do so much internal suturing because my first PS had completely over dissected my pockets. I will definitely do more updates and I will post a video soon too as I continue to heal/drop and fluff. I can't wait to see your results and I look forward to reading/seeing your BA journey!
December 2, 2021
Hi ! Any updates or complications ? I moved my consultation to December and I'm a little nervous.

December 2, 2021
So far everything is great! I'm planning on posting an update later today. Hawaii time so it's afternoon here. I'm loving my results, and the implants have stayed in place. My areolas are on the breast mound and I have a breast crease! I'm very happy, wish I went larger hah but I think I will always feel that way lol. I'm going to post a video later too just to show the feel and where in the IMF I can feel the capsulorrhaphy. I know it can be so nerve wracking going through this whole process and feeling like it isn't going to work out. I finally feel like I can take a breath and know that it worked. I'm 2 months post-op now and since I'm subglandular most of the healing is done besides scar therapy. I will DM you to tell you a little bit about how my consultation went!

Looking fantastic You have got my smiles there big.

Mentor Memorygel 650cc HP
I'm currently 2 months post-op and healing great! The swelling is gone, due to being subglandular I healed pretty quickly. I have been wearing a size 36DD push-up bra from Target pretty much 24/7 to keep my implants up and in. Dr. Colgrove recommended to keep the implants "up and in" for the next 6 months to help keep them in position. I have heard so many different recommendations from many different PS's about what to wear after the 6 weeks of wearing the surgical garment. From "it doesn't matter" to "whatever you want" and only two different PS's (one being Dr. Colgrove) recommended wearing a push-up bra. It makes sense to keep them up and in because the scar tissue is still healing and if they are in the correct position it is more likely that the scar tissue will adhere to the surrounding breast tissue. I am so happy with my results! The asymmetry I had on the bottom left breast (the one with the freckle) has rounded out and the breast tissue on the bottom poles of both breasts feels so strong and thick from the galaflex mesh. My areolas are in the correct position and I love the cleavage I have. I still have boob greed lol but I think that will always be a thing for me. I am just so impressed with how strong the IMF is. Going into this revision I really kept it in my head that if this didn't work then I would have to explant. I really didn't want to get my hopes up and I didn't know if the capsulorrhaphy and mesh would actually work. I finally feel that I can relax and take a breath at 2 months post-op knowing that the revision was successful. There is a little asymmetry on the upper pole fullness when I'm naked, the left breast is a little more rounded out and pronounced than the right breast but it is barely noticeable and doesn't bother me. I'm working on my scar therapy, I have been using Oleeva silicone sheets. My last IMF scars were really bad, they were red, long, and keloid scars, which I never had before. The scars are much better than before, they are still a little red but this time around I am making sure to actually do scar therapy consistently. One thing I have noticed is that these implants don't jiggle as much as my last pair, even though before I had Mentor Memorygel Xtra, which are more firm and 98% filled compared to the Mentor Memorygel which are 93% filled (same cohesive gel inside). I believe this is because my first surgeon had completely over dissected my pockets and the implants were able to move around way too much. During my revision Dr. Colgrove had to perform a lot of internal suturing to make the pockets tighter, I think that is why they aren't super jiggly. I really am so happy I chose Dr. Colgrove, I was really apprehensive about the revision working. Not only was the bottoming out fixed, but I now have the look that I really wanted.

Amazing results!! So glad your revision has worked out so well and you’ve finally got the results you wanted. You go girl!!xx

December 4, 2021
They look so good! Truly perfect!

December 8, 2021
Hi they are great. When do u start massaging them like this?

December 8, 2021
Thank you! So these videos were just "squish" videos lol. The only massage that I did in the video was when I placed my hands at the bottom of the areolas/lower breast poles and pushed straight back which in return pushes the implants up in the pockets. Each surgeon is different, my first PS didn't have me start massaging until 6 weeks post-op, and Dr. Colgrove had me start lightly massaging at 3 weeks post-op. I can do a massage video if you want to show the different ways to massage, but again each surgeon has their preference. I like the way both of my PS's had me massage, it wasn't aggressive at all but it was still very effective. I have seen some massage videos that are really aggressive and unless you have CC or have a higher risk of getting CC then I think a more gentle massage is better. But that's just my opinion lol you should always listen to your board certified plastic surgeon! Lmk if you would like to see a massage video!

December 9, 2021
Ok I will upload the massages I have been taught! But you should always listen to your board certified plastic surgeon! The massages I have been shown by both my plastic surgeons are very gentle, and effective, so I don't think it would do any harm. But definitely don't massage before at least 3 weeks if not 4-6 weeks. Each surgeon is different. I will try and upload today!
December 8, 2021
Yes pls, can you show me how? Thank you very much. I have not visiting my PS yet. Its my 7weeks. I had only virtual follow up with her. I think im doing good. I have some sore and achy a little bit. But i can handle it
