I Cannot Recommend Dr. Rahban Enough
WORTH IT
I came to Dr. Rahban as a Poland syndrome patient looking for a breast revision surgery. For those who don’t know, Poland syndrome is a rare disorder in which affected individuals are born with missing or underdeveloped muscles on one side of the body, resulting in abnormalities that can affect the chest, shoulder, arm, and hand. The extent and severity of the abnormalities vary among affected individuals. For my particular case, I was born with a missing pectoral muscle on my right side- no pectoral muscle and no breast tissue, just skin over bone. Being a female, this created a lot of insecurity growing up.
I had a breast augmentation performed in 2010 (I was 16 years old) where the surgeon inserted a saline implant on my right side. As years passed by my insecurities with my chest never went away as I had no fat or tissue on my right chest, making the implant look very unnatural and round. This affected what I wore on a day to day basis. Imagine sticking an implant on your back- that is what the right side of my chest looked like. Although I understand the limits and rarity of my condition, I felt that my previous surgeon didn’t take the time to make my right chest look natural. Keep in mind that my left breast is completely normal but because of this, there was no symmetry between my breasts. My left breast sat lower than my right and my right implant looked like a baseball.
Fast forward to June 2020 (I am now 26 years old), I decided to go to Dr. Rahban and seek his advice on my situation as I wanted a more natural look in my right breast in addition to both breasts looking symmetrical. He advised that we switch my saline implant with a silicone implant (looks and feels more natural in comparison to saline), do a fat transfer, and place a smaller implant on my left breast to create more symmetry. By adding a smaller implant to my left breast, they would have a similar shape and would lift up my left breast so it aligns with my right. The fat taken would be inserted around my right implant giving it a more natural look, minimizing the round feature of the implant and giving the allusion that I had breast tissue. Being a relatively fit person, he had to take out fat from both of my flanks and inner thighs. You would never be able to tell that I had stitches from the fat transfer as it left no scars.
I have had a friend who went to Dr. Rahban in the past, and upon doing my own research for my particular case, I decided to move forward with Dr. Rahban as he has a very good reputation and advocates for plastic surgery for the right reasons- a surgeon who enhances peoples’ features to make them more comfortable in their own skin rather than trying fulfill unrealistic expectations of wanting to achieve the looks of another individual. Throughout the entire process Dr. Rady was professional and made me feel confident in my decision with my breast revision surgery. The recovery process was smooth and quick and I could not be happier with my results. My breasts sit evenly, they feel the same, and they look symmetrical.
I am not someone who is consumed with my image and I’ve learned to accept my condition but being a female with Poland syndrome definitely affected my everyday life. I just wanted to be able to wear a tank top or a bathing suit without feeling so hyperaware of my chest. Dr. Rady helped me be more comfortable with my situation and feel more empowered rather than be ashamed.
Apart from being happy with my results, Dr. Rahban stood out to me because you can tell he genuinely cares about his patients. I am not an emotional person but there was a point when I started to tear up because he understood the challenges I’ve had to go through without me saying so. My friends only knew to a certain extent of my challenges with Poland syndrome, but Dr. Rahban truly understood and that’s an interaction that I’ve never been able to have with anyone. Not only is he good at what he does but he’s genuinely a good person. I cannot recommend Dr. Rahban enough.
