Literally a Lifesaver!

UPDATED FROM Glorious54825

Very pleased!

It has now been almost a month since my bilateral breast implant revision and lift surgery. I am very happy with the results. Friends say I look like a different and healthier person. They say it looks like I've lost at least 5 to 7kg (10 to 15lbs) because I now look more proportional versus top heavy.

Literally a Lifesaver!

I am a 34-44yo Dark skinned African woman who had Bilateral Breast Implant Revision with Lift by Dr Ellis Choy.

During 4 years of College and 2 years thereafter I had gained over 20kg (40lbs). At just under 150cm (5ft) tall I was well and truly overweight! I was tired and unhappy with my body going from toned and built to spongey and overweight.

So I decided to lose 15kg (30lbs) and was happy with my body overall. Except my breasts were no longer large and full like when I was 20kg heavier - they were flat with the nipples starting to point downwards, were covered in stretch marks from the weight gain and loss and had no fat in the upper part of the breast. I went to Thailand in 2010 and got 375 cc anatomical silicone implants placed sub-glandular (over the muscle) via my armpits.

While breastfeeding my first child I felt a pop and sharp pain in my left breast. The doctors thought it was likely mastitis. With time the pain disappeared and life went on. Both breasts started to droop again but the left breast kept dropping and started changing shape (capsular contracture I suspect) as the silicone spilled into the capsule. After baby number two and breastfeeding I went for an ultrasound which confirmed that the left implant had ruptured and was being contained by the capsule.

So I registered my interest for a consultation and booked an appointment within days. The consultations included a discussion with Natalie (receptionist), Siobhan (cosmetic surgery consultant) and Dr Ellis Choy. They each made time for me and openly connected with each other so I did not have to repeat myself or feel unsure of who knew what along the way.

I was provided with a variety of clinical options and I was never rushed into a decision. Where I was unsure they took the time to provide further information to help me make a fully informed and patient-led discussion. But having not seen many pictures of dark skinned women having had the various procedures being offered I was unsure on how it would relate to my scarring history and my curvy but short body type. Dr Choy said he understood what I meant and then showed me before and after photos of women who had had similar procedures with skin like mine and from similar ethnic backgrounds – I was sold then and there.

Besides the fact that Dr Choy is an extensively trained, double-boarded surgeon with professional and clinical awards and accolades, his attention to my concerns and his culturally and socially competent and responsive approach assured me I was literally ‘in great hands’.

In just over a month of my consultation I was seen by Dr Choy twice more before my bilateral breast implant revision (under the muscle) and lift surgery. From the moment I went into Castlecrag Private Hospital I was treated with the utmost respect, cultural and social competence, kindness and expert medical clinical care from Dr Choy, the anesthesiologist, the nurses and all other staff! It was the type of health care you read about in textbooks but happening in real life!

I am overjoyed with the outcome of the surgery. I no longer have silicone leaking in my body, I have lifted and proportional breast implants, I can now see my ribs and torso not just drooping breasts and then a belly button. I feel more confident than before the surgery when I was trying to find ways to hide my oversized and hanging breasts. Now I can wear clothes that flatter my shape, size and height. Already family and friends are commenting on how great my now proportional body looks and how bright and glowing I am. My breasts are perky and the incisions are so expertly done and the advice provided by Dr Choy and the nurse on wound and scar care are in line with my expectations.

I am healthy, happy, confident and feel like the best version of me – Dr Choy and his team were Literally a lifesaver!
