Amazing Surgeon, a Perfectionist Who Does Great Work Explanting Breast Implants Correctly
Nineteen years ago, at the age of 21, I got saline breast implants because I had very low self esteem due to my Itty Bitties (34AAA). I was convinced that as long as I didn't get silicone-filled implants, there were no real health effects to worry about. I got 350cc smooth saline Mentor implants under the muscle with a nipple incision, bringing me up to a full 34C. At the time, my main concern was if I would be able to breastfeed someday (which, thankfully, with a LOT of effort, I was).
About 6 years after getting implants, I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, ulcerative colitis. No one in my family had any history of autoimmune disorders. And more recently, I have been found to have many food sensitivities including gluten, dairy, almonds, egg yolks, pork, and more.
Last summer, I had both a close friend and sister who started finding out about Breast Implant Illness and thinking about explanting. I hadn't even heard of BII before. I was scared to even do my own research, because I was afraid even of the idea of having to remove mine. I had adjusted to a body image that felt comfortable to me. It took me months before I was ready to even start researching and learning about BII. And the first night that I did, I knew right away-- some of my health issues might be caused by my body's immune reaction to my implants. And I started praying for God to give me peace about making a decision. In December, I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Rubinstein. I had to wait almost 3 months for a consultation, then another 3.5 months for my surgery date (and that was without any Covid delay). After scheduling the consultation, I started having my prayers answered- I started feeling peace about deciding to go ahead and remove them. I now have peace knowing that I am making a decision to choose health over what our society has pushed me to think is important: body image. I am loved by God, and I was created exactly as He meant me to be. I will be allowing my body to detox from the foreign materials that have been inside of it for so many years! I hope to be a 34AA after my fluffing comes... and I am OK with that.
I am 10 days post-op now. I am feeling so, so good!!
Here are some random thoughts about this experience that might be helpful to others:
-Dr. R is just the most kind, compassionate guy! He is a perfectionist and an amazing surgeon, but he also focuses on making you the most comfortable and happy with your results that he can.
-If you don't live close to Dr. R, he will do Skype follow-up consults with you (awesome)! I chose to remove my own drains at home so we didn't have to drive 2.5 hours to my follow-up appt at 6 days.
-Removing the drains at home was no big deal, really. My sister and mom also both removed theirs (with help, as I had from my hubby).
-I recommend that you consider drains... just be informed and make your own personal decision, as we all should. No judgment!
-The Los Robles SurgiCenter is very nice! As you wait for surgery, they hook your gown up to a warm air vent to keep you comfy and warm, and they give you warm non-slip socks to wear.
-The week after surgery, I've tried to eat clean- low salt, low sugar, high protein, no alcohol, LOTS of fruit and water. Nutrition helps healing.
For those of you on the fence, I can't recommend Dr. R highly enough! My whole experience so far has been smooth and positive. I am SO happy and relieved to be on the lighter side now; flat but fierce! ;) I am so excited to see what positive health effects I have in coming months.
Blessings to each of you on your own journey! I pray that you come to have peace about your decision and acceptance of your new, lighter, healthier, gorgeous body! You are amazing, brave, and loved by God without any silicone enhancements whatsoever. :)
