Update after previous experience
I would like to add an update about Barrett Plastic Surgery and my experience. While I initially had a very poor experience as documented above, I did receive a phone call and apology, as well as attempts to repair the situation by offering another free consult to start from scratch and reconsider the originally planned surgery. I sincerely appreciated this, and that the office was so eager to correct this situation. Overall, I can tell this office does care and I do not believe the original mistake was malicious nor intentional. I would still reconsider this office in the future given how they attempted to repair their initial mistake.
Deceptive Practices and Unprofessional Office
I had a very unfortunate experience with Dr. Barrett and his office and I would strongly encourage anyone considering plastic surgery to choose a different, more trustworthy office. There were some inconsistencies from the start in which I was told the $500 consultation fee would be deducted from the price I would be quoted, although this had already been deducted apparently by the time they gave me the >20k estimate. The biggest issue is that we had discussed several areas of liposuction during our consultation, which Dr. Barrett had agreed upon, which included inner and outer thighs, lower abdomen, flanks, and above my knees, with fat transfer. This was thoroughly discussed including risks and anticipated outcome, as well as that price would likely be higher given additional areas involved. I was initially told by office staff that this procedure ranged from $15,000-20,000. After the consult, I was quoted $20,150 given the several additional areas of liposuction involved. I was immediately asked for $1000 to secure the surgery date after the consult which I promptly did. Several months before the surgery, I received an invoice which listed only inner thighs and flanks. I spoke with the office to clarify as this was not what had been discussed and agreed upon during the consultation. Their response was very defensive rather than apologetic, claiming that “we have record that you opened the invoice months ago and you should have noticed that.” They also refused to acknowledge that Dr. Barrett had agreed to these several areas for liposuction mentioned and wanted to increase the price of the already very expensive procedure. Deception comes from taking my $1000 to secure a surgery which I was told would include one thing (fat transfer, lipo of flanks, inner and outer thighs, above knees, lower abdomen), then asking for more money and claiming that the quote only covered inner thighs and flanks. It is both deceptive and unethical to provide a quote for $20,150 after agreeing during a consult what the procedure would entail (4-5 areas of liposuction) then claim later that only 2 areas were included in that quote and ask for more money. I was never given consistent responses from staff whenever calling into the office with questions. The tone from staff was argumentative and defensive. They also did not appear willing to refund my $1000 deposit to book the surgery after I cancelled my procedure 3 months in advance, after this mess unfolded. I would unfortunately not recommend this office, given this experience. If you are looking for an office and surgeon that cares about you personally, rather than just money, look elsewhere.
