Breast Fat Transfer

Dr. Schaffner is amazing!!! I had a consultation with 5 plastic surgeons in NYC + Dr. Brednar in North Carolina and almost immediately knew that Dr. Schaffner was the surgeon I would pick. Multiple people from his team privately told me that he would be the surgeon they would recommend to their friends/family/themselves and spoke very highly of his competence.

He was very very thorough, explained the procedure realistically and set expectations well. Dr. Schaffner transferred ~300 ccs into each breast with fat transfer from my thighs and flanks. I am a slim build to begin with (5'7 and ~130 lb) and Dr. Schaffner was able to get a good amount of fat and I am so so happy with my results! He provided me with a compression garment for my lipo areas and a bra for my recovery. He also prescribed me with pain medications, anti-anxiety medication, anti-nausea, and antibiotics (systemic and topical).

I've had two follow up appointments to date (2 weeks post op) and Dr. Schaffner has continued to be in contact with me through text and phone calls. I had two lumps form on my left breast that Dr. Schaffner pressed out to flatten and now they are totally gone.

How much of the fat has sustained since your operation? I'm very nervous about the visibility of scarring from liposuction. Did you have any rippling of the skin in the inner thigh? I look forward to your responses. Thanks for all the detail you presented. I'm thinking of getting the same procedure done.

Dr. Schaffner is Amazing!

mango_eucalipto

I've always been dissatisfied with my breasts but did not want implants due to bad reactions in the past to foreign material and the upkeep down the line. I decided I wanted to do a breast fat transfer after learning about it on RealSelf. I consulted with 5 Plastic Surgeons and Dr. Schaffner was the first one and instantly he was miles apart from the rest.

I am 5'7 and weighed ~130-135 at the time of surgery (I gained some weight for the fat transfer). I wore a 32A/32B bra and lacked a lot of upper pole fullness despite technically having a "B" cup.

Dr. Schaffner transferred ~300 ccs into each breast and a little over 2 weeks post surgery, almost all the fat has stayed! He injected fat above and below the muscle on both sides. The fat was transferred from my flanks and inner thighs. As of right now (a little over 2 weeks post surgery) I am measuring a 30D/DD and am in love with my results! I mainly wanted the surgery for breast augmentation and set realistic expectations for the results. I initially only wanted a full B cup and the outcome exceeded my expectation.

A few notes/tips:

1. I stopped drinking 2 weeks before my surgery

2. In general, I eat very very clean and 2 weeks ahead of surgery I cut out all junk food (no fast food, no fried food, very little red meat/meat in general)

3. Post surgery, I ate a lot of protein (protein powder blended with soymilk, tofu, greek yogurt, chia seeds) and continued to not eat any junk food/fried food/spicy food/salty food, etc

4. The first 3 days are very rough. I could barely walk and needed help doing pretty much everything. By day 5 I could do most things by myself but I stayed at home with my parents for 2 weeks.

5. I pre-booked all my lymphatic massages starting 3 days after my surgery and for 2x a week

6. Eating with the compression garment was really difficult. It compressed my stomach so I could only eat small quantities of food at a time

7. I didn't have lipo here but my lower back swelling was the most pronounced and painful. I think this was because I lying down too much. The first lymphatic massage helped sooooo much with this.

8. The compression garment is really important. I took it off on day 5 for 2 hours while they were washing and my legs felt swollen and very uncomfortable after the first 30 min

9. I had 3 compression garments in total. 1 from my dr and 2 that I bought. I suggest buying this one https://marena.com/collections... from Marena (the one my dr gave me). I bought 2 with suspenders and they were annoying and I was afraid they were compressing my breasts https://marena.com/collections/recovery-journey-step-4/products/fbm-compression-girdle. I wear one for night+day and wash and air dry in between uses.

10. The compression garment has an opening to pee which I used for the first few days but stopped using after a while. I wore my underwear on the outside of my compression garment which I found to be the most comfortable even though it kind of looks like I'm wearing a diaper.

11. My dr also gave me a compression bra that was so helpful post op when my breasts felt super tender and needed a lot of support. I didn't need to wear it after day 5 and switched to these from Amazon https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B077BWXT2K/refppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ieUTF8&th1&psc1.

12. I stopped needing to take opioids after day 3.

13. Bruising was 95% gone by 2 week mark

14. Definitely recommend getting the surgery sometime in fall/winter time. It's starting to get hot and my compression garment makes me sweat!

15. My incision sites only leaked for the first two days. I only needed 2 "pee pads" that my doctor provided me to control the leaking while I sat/slept

16. My surgery was on a Friday and I took Monday-Wednesday off the following week. I work from home and honestly could've returned to work earlier but didn't want to if there was a chance I still needed opiates. I started to respond to some emails on Tuesday.

17. On day 3, I felt a lump on my left breast that my dr told me was a fat lump. At my follow-up appointment the next day, he pressed SOOOOOO hard on it and it flattened out. He did that for a few other smaller lumps and my breasts returned to being smooth and soft. I started doing it too when I found some on other days.

18. 2 weeks post-op I accidentally fell asleep on my side and woke up with very extreme pain on my left breast from the pressure. After a lot of massaging and winces, it's back to normal but still tender. Definitely be vigilant about sleeping on your back for at least a month.

19. My boobs and incision sites got crazy itchy a few weeks after surgery. I recommend getting a steroid cream ahead of time to apply to where it gets itchy to prevent scratching.

20. Stretch the lipo sites! I didn't know I could do this and regret it. Lift the arms up in circles (above your head too) and do some light stretches a few times a day. My legs and boobs instantly felt better after stretching and the lymphatic massages.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
