Dr. Andre Marshall Offered a Discount – Now I’m Paying More for Corrections

At this point, I’ve spent more on corrective procedures than the initial surgery itself (a note for anyone considering discounted providers).

I chose Athenix based on their reputation for quality care, and I expected their process for selecting physicians would reflect that. During my consultation with Dr. Andre Marshall, the experience was seamless, thanks to the involvement of the Athenix staff. They answered questions and kept things running smoothly, making the consultation feel highly professional.

However, after the consultation, Dr. Andre Marshall contacted me directly, offering a substantial discount to move my surgery to an earlier date at a different facility, the Raymond Renaissance Surgery Center. I was assured the conditions at Raymond Renaissance would be identical to those at Athenix. Given those assurances and the significant discount, I agreed.

In hindsight, I regret this decision.

Though I paid significantly more than I would have with other lower-cost providers, the experience post-surgery mirrored what Dr. Marshall had warned against when discussing budget surgeons. Upon waking, I was told it took me significantly longer to come out of anesthesia than normal—something that felt brushed off despite the concern. I was also rushed out of the facility, a jarring experience considering the cost and expectations I had.

The outcome of the surgery was disappointing, resulting in visible deformities. While I can’t pinpoint exactly what happened during the procedure, Dr. Andre Marshall did offer a revision, which initially gave me hope. However, after the revision was agreed upon, communication became difficult. His staff began raising new barriers, offering medical explanations for why the revision couldn’t proceed as planned, and even suggested I pay additional fees for what we had already agreed was part of the revision.

After multiple attempts to address the situation directly, I escalated the issue to the California State Department of Consumer and Business Affairs, hoping to mediate. Unfortunately, Dr. Marshall did not respond to their outreach. In hindsight, I wish I had pursued legal action earlier in the process to recover my costs.

For anyone considering surgery, I urge you to be diligent in asking questions and not feeling pressured to make quick decisions, even when presented with discounts or changes in location. Make sure you are fully informed about where your procedure will take place and ensure that the provider’s reputation matches the level of care you expect.

My goal in sharing this is to encourage better oversight in the cosmetic surgery industry. Patients deserve transparency and accountability, especially when it comes to procedures with significant long-term impacts on health and appearance.
