Hello! I had a BBL with Arm Lipo 12 days ago with Dr. Alex Earle at Avana Plastic Surgery! I had originally been scheduled with Dr. Robert Kagan but swapped to Dr. Earle due to scheduling. He was one of my top two choices so I was happy to have my surgery with him.
A little background:
This is my second cosmetic surgery, my first was a Breast Augmentation two years ago with Dr. Ary Krau. I had a great experience going to Miami for surgery from Toronto, so it was a no brainer to come back here for my BBL! I'm Asian and was not naturally born with a shapely body. What bothered me most were my hip dips which made me look rather shapeless. My priority for getting this surgery was not to get a huge butt but to get a nice curvy shape from the front and back. My starting weight was originally 145lbs but I actively gained 10lbs before surgery to have more fat.
I opted to include my arms for an additional $500.
The booking process with Avana was pretty painless - they used a patient portal to handle payment which I liked. I received my lab requests 2 weeks before surgery and had the bloodwork done locally. Turns out my hemoglobin was only 11.3 which meant I was slightly anemic, so I had no choice but to get the cell saver for an additional $500.
My best friend and I booked an Airbnb and rental car for a week. We landed in Miami early morning on Feb 21, went straight to Avana for pre-op in the morning and was there for about 2 hours total. The wait wasn't bad but the staff could be friendlier. They weren't rude, just weren't too friendly. The nurse took my blood pressure, stats, and I filled out a pile of paperwork. Then went on with my day to Walmart to pick up some last minute supplies and waited for them to email me my surgery time.
I got notification that my surgery time was at 7am and I was thrilled! I was one of the first ones that day. I met Dr. Earle for the first time and he was very friendly. He marked me up and off to surgery I went! I was in surgery before 8am. The nurse anesthetist was friendly as well and gave my friend and I detailed instructions on what to eat/drink/do post surgery. I told Dr. Earle that I'm going for a nice, smooth, curvy shape and to take care of my hip dips.
Closed my eyes and snap of the fingers later I was awake! Woke up on my butt with an oxygen mask and my garment on. This was probably the worst part of the whole thing - I woke up freezing cold and shaking. I was so uncomfortable I was screaming. I recall Dr. Earle coming by and assuring me that everything went very well and that I'm now in recovery. He was very warm and it was super helpful to have him there. Although the post-op nurse was very dry and rude... pretty much made me feel like I was bothering her to ask for help turning onto my tummy. Not impressed. Before I knew it, she asked me to get up and put on my clothes and wheeled me out.
My friend was there to drive me, but honestly I was barely out of anesthesia and did not feel ready to leave yet. The car ride home was awful - my Airbnb was kinda far (30 minutes) and I was in a lot of pain. I took a pain killer right when I got into the car but it didn't start working yet. My arms killed - they were by far the worst during the car ride. Ladies - if you're renting a car please get an SUV over a sedan! It helped me so much as we put down the back seats so I could lay down flat and close my eyes.
After we got home I felt a bit better, but there was just no possible way to get comfortable. I pretty much laid down and went to sleep right away and when I woke I felt better. Please be sure to line EVERYTHING! The fluid leakage is absolutely no joke. It looked like a horror movie with how much bloody fluid that leaked everywhere. Once the painkillers kicked in I felt better - just sore and uncomfortable but no pain. I pretty much alternated in and out of sleep most of the first day. My neck killed!
Post Op Day 1-2 were similar - I felt more sore and stiff than surgery day but slowly gained back some flexibility and energy. I ate super duper clean - soups, fruit, water and some rice. Everything else was really heavy and I couldn't stomach it. For some reason my jaw got very very sore and I couldn't chew anything without pain. These two days were very emotional - constantly beating myself up over why I put myself through this. My closest friends know but I kept it from my family so I was stressed about having to hide it from them.
Day 3 - this was when I started feeling like myself again. I went for my post-op that day and saw the nurse. She changed the gauze and looked at the incisions. Car ride there was awful, easily the worst one. I felt so winded after the ride and just got so nauseous it was terrible.
Day 4 - Got my drains removed by Dr. Earle that day! Woo! After that thing was out I felt so much better. I also had enough energy to go for a walk at the beach that night. Still very sore at this point but slowly getting better. Started eating more solids as well!
Day 7 - flew home that night! My energy was good enough to walk around the mall before our flight. The flight was horrible though, the pressure made me swell up like crazy and there was no way to get comfy. I walked for a lot of the 3 hour flight and ended up kneeling for the other bits. I even upgraded my seat to first class because it would've been impossible otherwise. Nevertheless, got home, passed out and felt way better being in my own bed.
Each day gets better and better - but drinking lots of water and walking often has helped me a lot. I had a BM on the 3rd day and actually didn't struggle with constipation at all.
I'm now 12 days post op! I stopped taking painkillers on day 6 which I think helped me a lot. Those made me get random hot flashes and I hated them. A lot of my bruising has subsided and I'm now wearing my stage two faja. I've had 3 massages locally which helped, but I'm not sure made a huge difference. My butt volume has gone down a little bit, but my hips are still there and look great! My butt has also started to soften and not be rock hard.
At this point, I'm happy with my results! He gave me a very nice, natural look which I was going for. Yay Dr. Earle!
