Six months post explant

Thank you to all the wonderful and caring women on this site who supported me through the months of pre-surgery and post-surgery. It was such a gift. I promised a 6 month update so here it is. I don't see any improvement with my right breast. I have a few more pounds still which I'm not so happy about especially since it hasn't filled out my right side as far as I can see. Oh well, my health has improved somewhat so I'm thrilled about that. As I already noted, my hands are no longer freezing cold, white and shriveled. Yay! I still have symptoms of neuropathy in my feet (tingling and burning when I get hot) but it is much less intense and I hope that in time it will continue to get even better. All the best to everyone out there considering explant. I believe my situation is somewhat rare. Most of the explant photos on this site reveal much nicer looking outcomes. Do I wish my right side looked like my left? Of course! But I'm still glad I explanted with en-bloc because I know I did everything I could, including removing the scar tissue. Hopefully in another year the incisions will fade to skin color and won't be so noticeable. They still feel itchy from time to time. LOL! Big hugs to all of you! xoxo

Three months post explant

Hi RS friends. It's been a while. Happy New Year to all of you. I want to thank everyone who has held my virtual hand through my explant journey. It has been a roller coaster ride. One thing for sure is that I am happy I explanted. After 15 years I finally feel like me again. :) I am amazed at how pretty my left boobie is and sad I have that darn adhesion on the right side. I'd be close to perfection without that. But life is not about perfection and it was the obsession with having a "perfect" body that drove me to implants in the first place. Now it is time for acceptance and gratitude for having my natural body back. I have struggled with several dental issues over the past 6 weeks (crown broke and tooth underneath it broke off with it requiring extraction and implant, then a week later a repeat root canal on another tooth which didn't work requiring another complicated extraction - sigh) and my gum/jaw is still recovering from all that. And we just built a home in Florida and are setting up house so I've been too busy to even think about my boobs! As far as my general health I no longer have wild temperature swings at night which allows me to sleep better and my hands are no longer freezing cold and white. I still have some form of neuropathy in my feet which is triggered by heat. My diet has been absolutely terrible since the explant. I have a few days of eating clean and then weaken and eat some chocolate and then I'm like a drug addict. Sigh. And the powerful antibiotics I was given after the failed repeat root canal have really taken a toll on my gut. I am taking probiotics which are helping. Hopefully when my life settles down a bit and we are eating at home regularly again I will get back on the clean food wagon. I'm sure my health will improve on a better diet. :) Wishing you all the best on your journeys! I will post again at the 6 month mark. xoxo

Cami Comfort

Just a little update to share something funny. Believe it or not I saved this cami and a black one just like it for FIFTEEN years while I had implants. They sat in my drawer because I didn't have the heart to get rid of them. I'm so glad I saved them because they fit me again and I love them! So comfy. I wear them all the time now. No more squishing those implants into tight sports bras to look less big and fake! :)

Of all the plastic surgeons I consulted Dr. Darrow was the most professional and understanding of my wishes. I told him that I wanted my implants removed and that since I was experiencing several unexplained health issues I was interested in en-bloc removal. He told me there was no evidence that breast implants cause illness but that for peace of mind he was willing to perform the en-bloc removal surgery. He asked me about my symptoms and answered all of my questions regarding the surgery and recovery. I experienced a post-surgical complication due to the drains which required early drain removal. A week later I suspected a Seroma and sent Dr. Darrow a photo. He called me shortly after and suggested I come in that day. I was traveling a long distance but thought I could be there by 4:00 but there was a great deal of traffic and I was an hour late. I called Helen, his assistant, several times along the way and she assured me Dr. Darrow would wait for me. I was a basket case by the time I arrived! Dr. Darrow was so kind and removed the fluid from both breasts. Dr. Darrow was very pro-active in treating the Seroma. I ended up going in two more times over the next week for additional fluid aspirations to avoid infection and encourage healing. Dr. Darrow is top-notch with an exceptional bedside manner.
