To start off, I have wanted a Rhinoplasty since I was very young. Both cosmetically and medically my nose bothered me. I had a deviated septum, and many noticeable bumps and ridges across all angles of my nose. I learned to accept my nose and in a way love it as I grew older, but rhinoplasty was always in the back of my mind.
In November, I decided to book a consultation with Dr. Steiger. I had many consultations set up after him, but his thankfully came first. After meeting him for the first time I knew he was the doctor for me. I highly advise to put him at the top of your list because after meeting with him, you will cancel all other consultations thereafter! He was friendly, patient, answered any questions you asked, and radiated passion for his art (yes I call what he does art, and he truly is a master of it). He addressed my absolute biggest concern- that I wanted a nose that was made specifically for me, that fit my face, and looked as natural as possible. He said something along the lines of, "if someone tells says to you 'hey, did you get a nose job?' then I did my job wrong." That is what really stuck with me, because I still wanted to look like myself. He kept to his promise 100%, and instead of completely changing the way I looked, he enhanced it. The way I look now, only 1 day post-op and still with some nasal swelling- is how I believe I always should have looked. I am beyond thrilled with everything that came out of this procedure.
I wrote an honest log of how I felt for 5 days post-op, that I will re-write below! (I wanted this to be realistic because it will be an uncomfortable and possibly painful couple of days, but Dr. Steiger takes measures to make you as comfortable as possible- such as eliminating the packing of the nose.)
DAY 1 | Got out of surgery at 6:30pm. Felt great, no bruising, swelling or pain (yet).
By 10:00pm, my face swelled up and my nose was lightly bleeding. Uncomfortable, but not painful. Icing constantly.
DAY 2 | Threw up in the morning, probably from the anesthesia leaving my system. Bruising beginning under the eyes and a lot of swelling, face looked like a balloon. A little bit of pain so I started taking the prescribed pain killers. Icing constantly. *Day 2 & Day 3 were probably the worst days
DAY 3 | Mornings are the worst. Once I get up and wash my face, do the saline rinse, gently clean the nose and eat with my pain killers and antibiotics, I feel better, but still not good. Bruising now turning from purple to red, upper eyelid and sides of nose swollen bad.
DAY 4 | Feeling a little better, but still not great. Swelling hasn't lessened, and is actually moving downwards towards the cheeks (yay for looking like a chipmunk)! Bruising has lessened though and is starting to fade slightly. I am up and moving around.
DAY 5 | Feeling much better, healing well. Nose still clogged and crusted with dried blood that I am unable to get out so just a little discomfort in that area. Bruising turning yellow now, and swelling starting to subside.
Day 6 & 7 | No more pain, healing great!
By the 8th day when I had my cast removed, all that was left was a little bit of black & blue bruising under my eyes which I still have 1 day post-op and am patiently waiting to go away, as well as some yellow bruising on the lower cheek areas.
My nose looked fantastic right when the cast came off, although it swelled up a ton directly after. That's the one thing everyone needs to keep in mind- your nose is going to swell up a LOT when the cast comes off- so do not make any judgements on the final result until at least 2/3 months after (the most noticeable swelling should be gone by the end of three months I believe). Even at 1 year your nose is still slightly defining itself and healing to become the finished product you've been waiting for.
After the cast comes off, you can go straight back to work and school. I feel and look fantastic and can't wait for all my family and friends to see my nose just the way it is now. I'm extremely excited and anxious to watch the rest of this journey as my nose changes and defines itself over the next couple of months, and even year!
*****Again I want to say to Dr. Steiger- you have been the most amazing doctor I could have ever wished for! Thank you for making me feel even more beautiful then I ever felt! You are truly an expert and I know where I'm going should I ever need anything else.
Also, thank you to the wonderful, helpful and cheerful team that catered to me. I don't remember everyones names and I would write them all down if I did- but Ruah, Penny, and my nurse Barbara during the operation are three fabulous ladies!! XOXOXO Thank you!!*****
