I Have Beautiful Breasts - BUT After the 2nd Surgery
I waited 2 yrs to post my review, so I can confidently provide a very accurate review of my breast augmentation experience. I took off one star because I did need a revision surgery, but the revision was a success and I am very I happy with my results now. My main goal was to have very natural looking breasts that fit my body type, and where my nipples were either centered or rode higher on the breasts. I was barely an A cup, with very little breast tissue and thinner, tighter skin, but I had a good shape to start with.
I went to Dr. Kim for a breast augmentation, and was very adamant that I wanted a transaxillary incision. I regretted that decision, because my breasts settled very high, the nipples were very low, and overall looked very unnatural and unattractive. Dr. Kim told me afterward he rarely performed that type of incision; my advice would be to look for a different doctor who does this very regularly if you are dead set on going through your armpit. (Full disclosure: his schedulers let me know before the surgery that most patients choose areolar or inframammary incisions.) This was also an extremely painful recovery process, and the scars cannot be re-used for future surgeries. I did not get full movement of my arms back for a few months. Totally wasn't worth it.
Dr. Kim agreed that the breasts were not going to settle much lower and agreed to do the revision. This time around we went through the areolar. Wow....the recovery was MUCH better, and the results are probably one of the best I've seen from the plethora of post-op photos I've seen over the years. So while the first surgery was not a good experience, the revision was excellent and I am very happy with the results. I would recommend that you go through the areolar or inframammary if you see Dr. Kim.
Some additional notes. Dr. Kim didn't discuss many things with me, probably assuming I knew a lot already, given I had gone through a couple of other consults. Do your research and come prepared to ask questions in your consultation, and any pre-op visits you have. The free consultation is very fast, and it's upon you to ask all your questions (see some notes at the end of my review). Dr. Kim also does great live Q&As on his Instagram that answer a TON of questions you might go over in a consultation. I highly recommend following him.
Dr. Kim is extremely responsive for post-op questions and concerns; he always made sure to respond to my emails within superstar timing (often within minutes). While he may come off as somewhat aloof, my experience is that he was very willing to work with me to make my surgery a good experience. (It's why I would go to him for other treatments down the road.)
Lastly, I got 375CCs moderate plus silicone implants, going from barely an A cup to a 32DD (VS bras). I wanted to be a full B or small C, and Dr. Kim recommended I go a little larger, to maybe a full C. I look like a full C cup, but the volume in moderate plus silicone implants is different than breast tissue, so they fit differently in bras. Thus, why I'm a 32DD at VS. I'm grateful Dr. Kim recommended I go larger, as it achieved the look I wanted, and at times I wonder if I should've even gone larger! I also went under the muscle, since I didn't have much tissue to work with. While I don't think there was any other option I could have gone, you should know that when you flex your chest muscles, you will move the implants upwards. This does not look especially sexy...and it's something you will have to consider. (Something that we didn't discuss during my visits...and I discovered later.) Also, the incisions take up to a year to return to feeling. This was the case for both my incisions. Lastly, I can still feel some hardness of the scar tissue in my areolar incisions. I don't know if it would be better if I massaged them more through the healing process? Again - something that wasn't discussed in my consultation or any visits. I bring this all up so that you can ask these things in your consultations.
Dr. Kim is honest and easy to talk to. I have met with other plastic surgeons who don't fit those qualities and I have gone ruuunning. Surgeries are risky, and there are high percentages for complications or undesired results no matter who you go to. You need to know that, and find a doctor that is reliable and responsive. I would definitely recommend Dr. Kim in this regard.
