3 months and a few days more follow up

My last stubborn spot is all healed and my scars are less "knotty looking" and on their way to fading. I still haven't tried a real cup-sized bra because I could still be swollen and the two bralettes I bought (size MEDIUM!) work just fine. Still using my post-surgery sports bra for X-C skiing, snowshoeing, and hiking and probably won't buy new until I'm certain of my final size - yes, the post-surgery bras are a bit big now, but then I don't bounce around as I used to.

Best guess based on a very very VERY old bra is that I'm currently a 34DD, well down from 34HH. Visually, I now tend to think I look like a "C" or perhaps "D," but I just tried on a 36C because Ross did not have any D or DD cups, and yikes, I'm not THAT small.

If I were smaller though, my already too big stomach would not just match my bust, but exceed it. I'm too old to look slightly pregnant! Oh, well, I'm blaming it on still-present swelling (a girl can hope) and winter/holiday food binge-ing.

I do feel that I will want a more supportive bra for activities eventually, but since i walk at breaks and lunch, the support I have if I try to break into a minute or so of jogging is sufficient.

Eventually I will get some photos of my journey added..

5'2" 160 34hh

Thank you to all those who have posted their journeys.

I'm 61, 5'2" and 161 pounds currently - although very active - and currently am fitted in a 34HH. I was one of the first girls to sprout (5th grade) and more or less skipped over C and D cups in junior high.

Around the end of 1999 my hiking cut back from near weekly 15-17 mile trips (and week long backpacks) to much shorter trips due to a combination of hiking partners going different directions, aging, and fatigue. I was diagnosed with anemia a few years later - by then, I had gained 40 pounds and a few cup sizes (most of my tissue, however, is dense breast tissue).

Long story short, my wonderful brother/sis-in-law informed me a couple of years ago they would pay for a reduction if (at the time) Group Health would not cover a reduction. For several reasons I did not pursue it - bad timing (job related), personal issues (other financially intensive issues), and feeling this was something too generous to accept. Sis-in-law (a R.N.) kept bringing it up and so - I took the usual baby steps - researching, thinking about it, researching, thinking about it...

This summer I had a consult with Kaiser (they bought Group Health) and I was approved about 6 weeks after my consult with Dr. Nygaard. However, with family approval, I am getting a "cosmetic" reduction because Dr. Nygaard is far more convenient for follow ups, does the lipo on the sides, I believe she does far more reductions than the Kaiser surgeon, and she comes highly recommended.
Of course, the main reason I chose her is because I believe she will do a great job.

Dr. Nygaard is extremely professional, very pleasant, has a great sense of humor (when I told her I didn't particularly care about scarring as I had no plans to "flash my breasts," she laughed and said her office would not bail me out if I were to do so). Her staff is wonderful as well - I had a few "miscues" between Kaiser & her office re tests and everyone was very helpful in keeping everything on track.

Surgery is two weeks from today. I haven't had a chance to worry or fret as between getting the tests done, taking one cat (of 2) to the vet every few weeks for blood tests, etc., I honestly haven't really given it much thought as yet.

I'm well aware that with my short torso and extra pounds my stomach will look bigger than ever. I'm also well aware that I may occasionally let a friend take a picture of me rather than always demurring and taking the pictures of everyone else because I'm not going to look like I'm rounded from my neck to waist with one big lump.

Even better, every pound off is better for my body when backpacking.

So here's to the journey...
