Bad Breast Augmentation - Uneven & Asymmetrical
Bad Breast augmentation has left me with different sized & asymmetrical breasts.
Sharing my experience so that others may not have to go through what I am going through.
Shortly before Christmas my saline implant ruptured. I consulted with Dr Oppenheimer because I had moved and my prior plastic surgeon was now 1200 miles away. At my initial consultation I told him everything had been perfect before the rupture- size, shape, all good. I was happy but due to the breakage I needed to have it removed and replaced.
He assured me I could trust him and that it would be a fairly smooth process to replace the ruptured implant as well as replace the implant in the other breast.
$8300 was paid and the surgery was scheduled in a short time.
Going into surgery he again told me I could trust him, he said he was going to take extra time with me and promised me they would look great again. He did his markings and in I went.
1 week after surgery I was concerned because one breast was much bigger and lower than the other, I texted the office asking if this was normal and they asked for a picture. As soon as I sent the picture Dr Oppenheimer called and said he wanted to see me at my two week checkup.
At my two week checkup I was told he was not there and had gone home early for the day - so the nurse came in and said that maybe the size difference was due to swelling, and recommended another muscle relaxer prescription ( which she didnt give me) I was then asked to come back again in a few days to see Dr Oppenheimer.
At this visit he looked and confirmed that this was the way the breasts were going to stay. He said that they must have been asymmetrical before coming to him. I assured him they were not and showed him a frontal picture taken two days before the rupture- but he claimed that because my arms were not straight down he couldnt tell. I was so shocked by this - i have plenty of pictures proving my breasts were the same size and perfectly even from my first augmentation- but he instead of being apologetic or sympathetic was saying this was somehow my fault. He then said maybe my prior plastic surgeon had used a smaller implant on that side to even the size difference. I did not understand this because first of all this was untrue- and regardless of what the last dr did I went to this dr to do his job correctly- and he didn’t!
By this time I was in tears. I was devastated to learn that is how they were going to look and I also felt insulted and now extremely uncomfortable.
I left crying not knowing what I was going to do. His only recommendation had been to give it some time and decide if i want to try a different size implant to try and correct the difference on the larger side. Why didnt he do it correctly in the first place during surgery? This is his job! This is major surgery not trying on different sized clothes.
2 more weeks go by and I realize that they hadnt removed any stitches during my checkups so I again texted to ask if that needed to be done. The nurse left me a voicemail saying they had been removed- no wait she wasnt sure- there was no notes, could I please check and see and let them know. I was shocked at the level of unprofessionalism and told them this- and confirmed that yes the stitches are still there.
Dr Oppenheimer then called and said he was sorry I was so upset and for me to come back in to have them removed and discuss a game plan.
By now though i dont feel comfortable at all with him. My breasts are very different sizes and one hangs much lower then the other- the larger one still hurts and is very uncomfortable and I am an emotional wreck. And I still have stitches sticking out. And he is not taking any accountability whatsoever.
My boyfriend is concerned and after seeing the results calls the office to discuss all of this and he says he was told that they said the end result bad augmentation was due to me declining a recommended lift.
This was a flat out lie- dr Oppenheimer never mentioned doing a lift- ever. I went in to replace a ruptured implant and would have done whatever was needed to ensure a good result so this was an absurd lie to come up with.
This has been a horrible experience for me and I do not recommend him at all - I wish I had done more research because there are alot of other qualified plastic surgeons that would not have left me with mismatched uneven breasts.
