I liked one eye, but the other looks significantly different - not the result I wanted! One lid is almost half-mast, so low that I have trouble reading at night. Dr Weinfeld refused to correct it. First, he asked me to wait another six months, saying that it was a result of swelling. Then, he told me that I had to go to another doctor and get a diagnosis in order for insurance to cover the repair. I liked the staff, the amount of time he spent answering my questions before surgery, basically everything except the result, which was the main goal. If both eyes looked the same, then I would be delighted.

I am sorry that you are unpleased with your result and hope that I have the opportunity to help continue to assist you through your recovery. As plastic surgeons there are some circumstances in which the preoperative diagnosis and the response to surgery and healing lead to a less than desirable result. When that is the case it is often advisable to wait some time for even small amounts of swelling to decrease to make a proper assessment of the situation. This is particularly important in eyelid surgery where even a small amount of swelling can increase the weight of the lid and make it rest lower than it ultimately will. Another reason to wait, sometimes up to 12 months, to address an unfavorable result is to let scar tissue soften so that the tissues are easier and more predictable to work with surgically. With regard to visiting another doctor - there are times when a surgeon is dealing with a challenging situation where the results are less than desirable that is helpful to obtain a second opinion. The purpose of this is to make sure that all causes and remedies are considered. In my opinion, it is a good practice and favors the patient. It comes from a sincere desire to help evaluate what options exist to solve challenging situations where a patients results did not meet the expectations. Again, I am so sorry that the results are not what you wanted and I hope my explanation above addresses some of the feelings you have expressed in your review.
Sincerely,
Adam Bryce Weinfeld, MD
