How I felt on a weekly basis during first month

And mind you, everyone heals differently.. These were just my experiences.

Week 1- I took a lot of naps, there wasn't much else to do. I quickly learned how to manuver my legs and feet to do most of my movement because arm movements were too painful and I was so swollen and tight that I was slightly afraid to move them too much. I didn't peak much at "my girls" because taking the bra off put more gravitational pressure on the sutures that was uncomfortable. On a scale of 1-10, my pain was probably an 8-9 most of the time so the pain meds came in handy. The pain was mostly pressure from the swelling on my breasts and below the armpits and obviously pain inside my chest from the surgery, but the incisions did not give me much trouble. I slept on my back slightly elevated and mornings gave me the worst pain. I had a fever for a few days and got nauseous a couple of times as well.

Week 2- I went back to work this week with light duties, and even with that every day felt like a little too much. But it also felt like I had these enormous balloons on my chest that wanted to burst with each step I took. Pain was probably at a 7-8 this week. The swelling underneath my armpits (where a bra covers) bothered me the most. I was regularly changing gauze at this point and there were trace amounts of blood but nothing major that worried me. I still wasn't able to lift myself out of bed from the morning pain/stiffness.

Week 3- This week movements were getting a little bit easier and the swelling has gone down but my skin was hypersensitive to clothing, it felt like a sunburn at all times. Vasaline did soothe it slightly. I was still sleeping elevated and on my back because the sides of my breasts were still "hard" and uncomfortable, so that sore waking up feeling wasn't any better. My breasts have definitely dropped this week and were getting a softer touch on top. Pain was probably a 5 because the sensitivity was almost unbearable at times, but nothing else was bothering me. The sutures sometimes felt a little itchy.

Week 4- I basically feel back to normal being able to do most routines, taking precautions not to lift heavy things above my head. My breasts are still tender but do not have the sensitivity of last week, only a shot of pain every once in a while that doesnt last. I would say pain is at a 1-2 only. I am able to sleep on my sides finally, which is still a little uncomfortable because things are still tender and settling. This week I have started doing my scar massaging (all of my stitches are dissolved). The scar around my areola and the verticle scar down my breast is very thin and pink and the anchor part of the scar underneath my breast is currently thicker.

But I have also had small differences between the healing of my breasts:
Right breast- has dropped faster, creating a more natural round look at the bottom. Although my nipples are perfectly symmetric, this areola is giving me problems and kind of "shrivels" a little when erect giving it a different shape than the other. But everything is still healing. The right nipple is also so extremely sensitive, to the point where it almost feels bruised to the touch still.
Left breast- taking a bit longer to achieve the round shape on the bottom, the tops of both have dropped perfectly fine. Just the shape of the left breast I can see still has a slightly more "cone" shape and needs to drop to get the roundness still. The areola stays round when erect, but I also did not have sensation in this nipple for the first couple of weeks and now there is slight sensation (nothing near the sensation in my right) but there is nothing wrong with it, there is blood flow and it does get erect.

In my circumstance, there was no great weight loss...

In my circumstance, there was no great weight loss or childbearing that lead me to have the amount breast ptosis I had, it was genetics and puberty that blossomed me in a way that lead to 15 years of being self-conscious and unhappy with my body. During my consultation with Dr Oppenheimer, we discussed an action plan to get to where I envisioned my breasts to look like. I found him to be extremely knowledgable by explaining his professional opinion for why he would want to take one route for my particular surgery versus a different one. He made me feel comfortable asking any questions or concerns and addressing them thoroughly, and always making sure we had the same goal in mind for myself. On the day of surgery, and with all of my post op appointments, I have been greeted and taken care of by Christina who has been wonderful in making me feel comfortable during every visit. Dr O did the BEST job with my surgery, my symmetry is on point and the size is perfect. During every post op appointment he addresses any new questions I may have and even brings up concerns I had from previous visits. It may be pricey, but getting work done by him was WORTH IT and I could not have imagined going through this process with any other surgeon.
