I am a 40 year old who had a little double chin. I booked myself for an appointment to get Kybella treatment with Dr Shobhan Manoharan at Brisbane Skin. However, 3 days before the appointment, I had a bike accident which left me swollen around the face and chin. I still attended the appointment at Brisbane Skin. Dr Manoharan said I could go ahead with the treatment, even though the Kybella prospectus clearly stipulates that someone with a swollen face should not be injected because of the risk to the nerves, muscles and tissues. I suffered nerve damage as a result of Dr Manoharan's treatment, which means I have a drooping lip and an asymmetrical smile which is not resolving, and which is being followed up by a neurologist. It may never resolve. I also have a dent in the middle of my neck and sagging bits and pieces of skin as well as damage to my skin. Please note I am of Mediterranean background and had a completely smooth neck prior to this. I have been left with the neck of a 60 year old, and a drooping lower lip. I am beyond traumatised. It's been life -altering and I am in need of corrective surgery to the neck.

Ultimately you are responsible for you. You even said you read not to do it if swollen yet you did. You could have rescheduled. Own your actions.

Dear Nech. As you are aware, this case was taken to the registration board as well as Health Ombudsman here in Australia and thrown out on both counts. Nerve trauma is a risk in 2-4% of Belkyra/Kybella patients, and is largely a temporary side effect. You were informed of this, signed informed consent and also insisted on being treated on the day of consultation, despite your recent injury. You were treated as the injury was outside of the treatment area. You refused to return for follow-ups that are standard post-procedure and may have picked up any issues and complications at an early juncture. It is disappointing that you continue to make such accusations on public domain when there is no evidence of malpractice by Dr Manoharan, who is one of the most experienced Belkyra injectors in the country. We hope you find a successful resolution with your issues.
